Has anyone gotten an interview invite after the 9/8 batch? It's been quiet for a while....

Im still waiting, submitted my secondary in July. I know my stats are on point, 33, 3.9 GPA, URM, lots of extracurriculars.

Still waiting with a 3.91 and 36.............

Based on the interview day, UM is really looking for fit. Stats aren't everything.

Can you elaborate? Or is it one of those "It's a million little subtleties that you have to be there to understand" kind of things?

to me it just seems like everyone keeps saying this school or that school "is really looking for fit", as if it is a unique thing, but it hardly seems so since practically EVERYONE coming from their interviews says that about the school they just interviewed at. Maybe we should stop talking about all the schools that look for fit (which seems like almost all of them), and just talk about the schools that are very stats-driven(which are fewer and farther in between)

II invite. 3.8+/34+, complete mid August.

Edit: Does anyone know if Miami is rolling admissions or not?

Also just got the II. I think they are rolling

Not really sure since they never send a complete e-mail. I submitted my application in the middle of July, and my letters were all in on July 31. So I was probably completed sometime in early August. My stats are in a post above, but I`ll just repost it here: 3.9 and 36 IS.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. Im hoping to receive an invitation soon. Congratulations on your invite. Im also instate.

II here too! 3.8, 30Q OOS
Complete beginning of August

Interview Invite!!! Does anyone who has interviewed know how long they take to let you know which date your interview is after choosing the four options? The reason I ask is that my first choice is on Friday and if that's what I get, I would really like to know soon.

I just interviewed here yesterday so I'll throw in my $0.02. There's one, open-file interview with an adcom, and the interview was generally low stress. My interviewer first asked me some questions about my application and then asked me the usual "What would you do in this situation?" questions. I thought the interview itself went okay (it was my first one so I was a bit nervous), but it was pretty clear that my interviewer already had a strong opinion about me based on my application alone. In my case, it was a positive one and he said that about 10 years ago it was rare for them to get an application of my caliber (I do have slightly above average stats for them but my ECs are honestly pretty cookie cutter); while that's not the case anymore (of course lol), he said that I'd still be a top student at their school and by the end of the interview tried to convince me how I'd be a good fit for them and how I'd get great education there (I thought it would be the other way around...). In other words he pretty much sounded like I'd get accepted but I'm not gonna draw any conclusions yet (their next committee meeting is on 10/17). And apparently the interviewers themselves are supposed to be your advocates to the rest of the committee so it's hard to go wrong if they already liked your application enough to warrant an interview.

Also, the students there seemed pretty chill and were generally laid back, and the campus seemed generally nice (minus the homeless/uninsured patients that go to Jackson Memorial Hospital).

And for those of you who wanna know, last cycle there were 6074 applicants, 3459 of which submitted secondaries. They accepted 316 out of 521 interviewees, their average GPA is 3.73 (cum) and 3.66 (Sci), and their average MCAT is 32.0.

Lol I guess they heard you. Congrats!

does anyone know how long it takes the admissions office to tell us our interview date after we submit our preferences?

Well I just called and asked for my preferred date, and the woman in admissions looked up the availability and said that I was confirmed and should receive an email about the day soon.

Also, I'm confused on why there are two days we have to be there for the interview if there is only one actual faculty interview. Am I missing something?

Where do you see something about being there for 2 days...?

My Email:

Congratulations! You have been selected for an interview at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for the MD and MD/MPH programs. The interview event will take place over two consecutive days and your interview can be scheduled at either our campus in Miami Dade County or our regional campus in Palm Beach County.

During your visit, you will have ample opportunity to see our facilities and speak with some of our medical students at an informal luncheon. In short, we've planned a couple of days for you in which you can learn as much as possible about both of our campuses.

After looking at the list of interview dates below call the Office of Admissions (305-243-3234) and speak with Linda Hampton or Francia Portacio to schedule your interview. We will make every effort to accommodate your request, but you should also give consideration to one or two other dates in case your first choice is unavailable.

October 29 and 30
November 12 and 13
December 3 and 4
December 10 and 11
January 14 and 15

If you wish to decline this offer or if your plans change and you cannot keep your appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the interview slot to another applicant and reschedule your visit.

Sincerely,
Richard Weisman, Pharm.D.
Associate Dean for Admissions

Ok, I realized that since I am interviewing for MD and MD/MPH that that might be why it is over two days. Anyone else doing MD and MD/MPH and get the same message?

I am interviewing for MD only and my e-mail was very different, it didn't mention calling and it's 1 day not 2. It's definitely because you're applying md/mph.

Okay now that makes sense lol

I just heard back. That was quick! So excited for the interview.

I'm hoping to hear back from this school soon! My MCAT is only a 29, but I'm hoping that my ECs make the difference. They appear to be really service oriented and I've been completing a community service oriented Fulbright Grant for the past year. I've also had some really interesting medical volunteer experiences here this year, e.g., leprosarium, sanitarium, HIV specific acupuncture clinic.. things that that aren't really in the US. I submitted my app mid Aug, but thanks to a Typhoon that drifted down from China the following morning and knocked out my internet for two weeks and flooded my house, I didn't get my photo sent until late Aug. I mentioned that in the email I sent them. So hopefully the delay won't be an issue! Fingers crossed!

Hey guys,

I am OOS with a 3.5, 33...is it fool's hope at this point to expect an interview if I submitted my secondary now?

Being oos won't hurt you because they no longer have any preference for IS students. However, since they've already received >6000 applications, being this late will hurt you. But they recently started interviewing so maybe you won't be that behind, they don't send secondaries to everyone so getting one means they're interested. I would go for it if you don't mind paying for it, it's better than always wondering. you shouldn't wait too much longer though.

Do they confirm receipt of your secondary or send you a completion email? I sent my secondary in at the beginning of the week along with my photograph and never heard back from them? Only email I got was the one confirming my payment. Should I call?

They sent a "thank you" email after getting the photo, not official complete e-mail though. I called just to be sure and everything was complete. On their website it says during what times and days you can call for status checks, and I think someone posted the info earlier in this thread.

I never got a Thank You email after sending in my photograph. I just got an email saying they received my secondary and that I should send an photo. The next email was an interview invite.

The reply I got when I sent my photo said thank you and that my file was complete, but that was over a month ago.

Does anyone have any info about student hosting?

Im disappointed. UM has completely neglected me. I have received several invitations from other schools way better than this place. But UM continues to be my dream school and I will not lose hope! Hope all of those waiting receive invites soon or eventually for that matter!

boo hoo.

I like how you pretty much dissed your "dream" school lol

Doesn't seem like anybody has posted about rejections yet. Does Miami hand out II's and save rejections for a later date... aka how long after my secondary and submitting my picture should I give up hope for an II?

Any interview invites this week? I finally got all my letters together and just finished their secondary...Please UM, give me a chance!

Looks like it's been quiet for a while since the last flurry. Anyone??

They'll send you a general schedule closer to your interview. But you will show up on day one with all of the MD only and MD/MPH interviewees for that date. They will give you a folder and in it will be a personal schedule. You will know then when your interview is (there is AM & PM that day and AM the next day for MD/MPH), the name of your interviewer, and their medical specialty if they are a physician. At times when others are interviewing you will have a tour or presentation. I applied MD and MD/MPH, but my interview was in the AM the first day in Miami, not the second day in West Palm. It was my worst fear going in day 1 that that would happen because of nerves, but I actually highly enjoyed it right away. I could eat lunch with less worry if something were to get on my suit, and day 2 was a breeze. I started an hour later than those interviewing Day2 and only had a presentation and a tour of the local Palm beach County clinic. However, if you have many interviews/heavy course load and don't have a lot of time to specifically find things about Miami you love to mention in your interview, it would be better to have it Day 2 because you will have had many presentations feeding you things to say ;-)

Good luck everyone!

I recently received an II from here, it's my top choice OOS school so I'm super excited! In fact it may be my top choice overall bc I'm probably not going to get much love from my in-state schools. I'm not sure when I was complete as I didn't receive an email, but I sent in my picture around mid-August (forgot to do it for a couple weeks after I submitted my secondary). I have very average stats, so don't lose hope guys.

What date did you receive an interview?

Thanks for the encouragement! Almost same situation but no II yet.. My MCAT is sub-par, especially for OOS. Starting to kick myself for not retaking. Would love to end up here though. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope my ECs and decent GPA hold me up :xf:

p.s. Love Game of Thrones too. Recently got into it and am looking forward to season 3!

For the chonology questions, did you describe the activity, or did you just list the dates?

Also, did you guys put some activities in more than one chonology? For example, hospital volunteering.. clinical experience? volunteering? both?

One more question: did you guys include research under volunteer?

Just list dates and state what it was.

Research is not really a volunteer activity.

Does anyone remember when Miami is going to release their first batch of acceptances?

They should start making calls tomorrow. Based on last year it was after 5:00 since the adcom meets tomorrow
