hi all! i'm interviewing this coming monday (12/10), and just received an email that they don't have any student hosts available. i'm now going to book a hotel, and am choosing from the list that vandy suggests. of that list, does anyone have any suggestions? which ones are better/worse? any experiences with any of them? any advice at all is appreciated! thanks!

Checkmarks received sometime around October 29. My available dates were the last two weeks of January until February 1, but I think that's just the time frame they gave me to choose. Nothing really available in early Jan or before though.

I think there's an extended stay around the corner with a pretty good price

The holiday inn right next to campus is very nice and very walkable. Don't remember how competitive the price was though.

Interview Invite late yesterday as well!!! I never had received a consideration email before the II so I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't. OOS 36M 3.6. I submitted my secondary at the end of September/beginning of October and didnt receive check marks until mid November I think but I am not sure.

I submitted my secondary towards the end of September and got the check marks towards the end of October.

I know that the short interview asks theoretical/ethical questions, but what type questions more specifically? Strengths and weaknesses? Or ethical questions about issues like end of life stuff?

+1, I'm interviewing tomorrow and fairly worried about these questions.

Don't be. First of all, the interviewers have a long list of possible questions to pick from; they can be anything from ethical dilemmas to "tell me about a time when you faced a large challenge" (one that I got). You can't really prepare for it, and that's the idea; take your time, try to be thoughtful, and don't worry too much.

agreed, i didn't get any ethical questions (i also got the large challenge question, and a few others similar to that one). other people on my interview day did get ethical questions but i don't think anybody had anything related to medical ethics.

Oh yeah, one more thing - I got the distinct sense that my interviewer was using the questions as a vehicle to get to know me a little. As in, I don't think she really cared how well or poorly I answered the question (I guess if I was spectacular or awful that would have registered, though...). It was more a conversation starter and to see your thought process. Kind of like a case interview.

Interviewing tomorrow as well. Looks like there are alot of SDNers in Nashville tonight. Good luck everyone!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input. Also, I'm looking forward to meeting some SDNers for the first time tomorrow 😀.

You'll do great! There were ten others interviewing my day in November so you'll be able to identify each other by school. I loved my long interviewer (they really try to get to know you and make the experience pleasant) and my short interviewer asked only three questions and the rest was conversational (tough to call how I did). It was definitely one of my most favorite interview experiences and I hope we're going to be hearing back soon. Make sure you eat some breakfast before hand as the other interviewers garbed on the aue bou poin like none other. Be you, and have fun for heaven's sake 🙂 :luck: ALSO don;t be afraid to tell them why you love Vanderbilt!! 😍

For the short interview, the interviewer only asks 3 questions and no more? Is it like a MMI where they don't talk to you except read a question every 10 minutes, or is it still fairly conversational?

Very conversational but they have set questions prepared for you. I dont think it is set to three questions. Mine were like 5 questions.

Mine was still fairly conversational except there were specific questions that needed to be addressed.

Anyone know when scholarships will start rolling out?

I hear starting in February and onward.

+1. This isn't like an MMI interview... it's just a normal interview with some particular recall/behavioral questions that are asked. Depending on your interviewer the amount of specific questions that you are asked versus the amount of regular conversation that occurs will vary.

So this was definitely an amazing experience. I'm completely blown away by the research, campus, curriculum, and especially the happiness of the medical students here. I'm having a hard time imagining a better medical school experience right now... But we'll see when the interview season is done.😀

anyone know when the next round of acceptances might be going out? it's been so quiet the past few weeks..

I am curious as well. Interviewed 11/6 and am getting anxious.

Where did you hear this? It's been sometime in December in the past.

Oh, didn't notice that. Judging from past year's thread it looks like a handful go out in December but the majority happen in March. A medical student I asked when I interviewed said scholarship offers often go out after February. Schools that have accepted you get to see what other schools have also made an offer starting in February, so it makes sense that they wait until they get this data to offer most of their scholarship money.

Do you have a source on the whole other schools get to see who else has accepted you thing?

Yeah... the 2013 AMCAS Instruction Manual 😉

https://www.aamc.org/students/download/182162/data/amcas_instruction_manual.pdf
Page 80 of the manual:

Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an
applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if
applicable.

Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools
that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by
the medical school.

February = any school that has accepted you can see where else you've been accepted

April = any school that you applied to can see where you've been accepted, whether or not it has accepted you

A medical school can only see the information if they've accepted an applicant in Feb/March. In April they can see the same info of all applicants (including those they haven't accepted).

Even if you withdraw before these dates, would a school still be able to see that you have been accepted at that school?

If you've been accepted then withdrew, then my guess is that they'd still be able to see the info. If you withdrew before being accepted/rejected, I don't know.

Very anxious! hopefully decisions come out before holidays.

new round must be going out soon, just got the call from the dean - looks like im headed to vandy

Got a call from the dean this morning! Interviewed 11/19! Good luck guys 🙂

Congrats everybody!!!! Hoping to hear today too, interviewed 11/12!

any recommendations for hotels to stay that are near the school? good hotels but not too pricey...

accepted yesterday as well. interviewed 11/12 😎

Just got the call a few minutes ago!!! interviewed 11/12 as well!

Congrats to all the new acceptances!

Does Vandy set up a Facebook group or provide some way for us to talk with current students to get more info about the school (it seems like there are class threads for previous years)? Anybody here likely to matriculate?
