so no one has received a post secondary rejection yet?

Not as far as SDN is concerned.

Vandy is getting much more selective with IIs this year, so they're probably combing over people's secondaries and making very tight decisions. There hasn't even been a reported II for quite a while here, even (other than the one reported yesterday by status update). I for one, appreciate that. I'd rather not go to Vandy to interview if I'm not going to get an honest consideration.

Update email from vandy-- "still under active review in a pool of applicants still being considered for an interview"

+1

And since some people just got IIs today I'm guessing this is essentially a hold status...

anyone have a good estimate for how long it takes for the secondary to be complete? I submitted my secondary on 9/5 and am still staring at red checkmarks! I'm assuming this takes more than a month right?

Can't remember correctly but it took a significant time, about 3 weeks at least?

I submitted 9/4 and just got check marks today

I submitted my secondary eight days ago and it says that they have received it. However, the website still says they have not uploaded my LOR(s). At what point should I contact them about that, if at all?

It takes about a month. I wouldn't call until then.

To those with the update that they are being reviewed intensely. When were you complete with both check marks?

🙁 never got this email, complete late august

Anyone worried about being the first class to experience the kinks in the new 1-year pre-clinical curriculum? Nymphicus, how is the 1 1/2 year curriculum going? Any problems? How receptive is the administration to feedback?

bumpity bump, Nymphicus or others?🙂

Interview invite!
Two words I will never hear.
Rejected pre-sec.

Has anyone from the late-August secondary batch gotten an interview?

Just submitted secondary recently. I guess I am not going to hear back until two months from now

I submitted my primary application in late September. Does Vanderbilt require primary application to be verified before considering sending secondary application?

They do a pretty heavy screening of the primary applications; appx 20% of applicants receive a secondary (1000 out of 5000 roughly), and then they interview a fraction of those people

Edit: Yes, they only look at verified primary applications

I have decent GPA and MCAT score without leadership experience. Is leadership experience mandatory for admission to Vanderbilt's MD program?

Basically. How are you supposed to lead a medical team if you've never led a team in your life?

And it looks like they're still digging [mostly] through early August completes. Be patient, everyone. They only give 1000 secondaries (~20% apps) and 500 interviews (~10%]. Crazy high level applicants will also likely get quicker IIs, of course.

Still haven't received a secondary, been complete since 8/6 and almost forgot I applied here! I can't see this ending well - maybe my rejection got lost in the mail?

I know a few people have said they haven't received secondaries--when did y'all get the initial "Vanderbilt has received your AMCAS materials e-mail"? I received mine 8/28 and still haven't heard back about a secondary. Time to give up?

Haven't received mine and I was complete around that time. Just give it time, you never know.

I received mine 7/26 and still haven't gotten a secondary. So you should be much less worried/anxious than me.

Well the Nashville dream has come to end. Got the snail mail rejection today after submitting primary 7/30. 3.87, 3.98, 35 OOS. This one hurt a little bit because I would have liked the chance to tell Vandy how much I love the school/ city/ everything, but I guess it's just not meant to be. Good luck to everyone else applying!

Over 80% of applicants will never receive a secondary. Over 90% will not receive an interview.

I think it has been reiterated plenty, but keep that in mind. Vandy, like all of the top schools, is extremely selective. I'm thankful they won't waste my time and money with a secondary if they aren't strongly considering my application.

Whenever you change a curriculum, there will always be some bumps in the road. However, if any school can make this change as fluid as possible, it will be Vanderbilt. There are many systems in place here (student committees, numerous surveys, open-door policies for admin) that work to provide administration with feedback --- and the good news is that they are very receptive to it. The 1.5 year curriculum is going very well so far this year, and as a first year experiencing it, I can say that the course directors are putting a lot of energy into making sure appropriate changes were made from last year. We've also seen faculty change small things about a course during the course in direct response to student feedback. That, to me, has been impressive. The problems have largely been issues with a few professors not cutting down their content enough from previous years, but nothing serious.

As for Curriculum 2.0, the administration has solicited some feedback from our class already to guide their final preparations, and have assured us that they will continue to collect input from us through the rest of this year and make changes to next year's curriculum in response.

Oh, wow, thank-you, jvela. I'm so glad to hear your vote of confidence and that as a first year you are content with the changes to the 1.5 year pre-clinical curriculum. Sounds like everyone is very involved in making the process work. Thanks for your response!

Bummer, post secondary snail mail rejection 🙁 (stats in MD apps, OOS)

Would have loved the chance to come visit Vandy and Nashville, but was grateful to at least receive the secondary!

Best of luck to everyone else!

That's strange, I thought post-secondary rejections would be through email.

Edit:
Sorry to hear though, good luck with your other apps.

As did I! Was expecting to hear a rejection after not receiving the update email mentioned earlier on this page.

Oh well! Still hoping to hear some good news from schools on the 15th!

Calling Tots! What did you think about Vandy (the school and the interviews!)?

So the email update sent by Vanderbilt post-secondary, are most people taking that as an "on-hold" status?

If so, think an LOI would be helpful at all? I'm really interested in this new curriculum, and Tots, your description only made me more excited.
