2013-2014 Creighton University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you who just interviewed this past week, what did you do about your luggage during the interview? The email specifically says that admissions is unable to store luggage, but I'm flying out right after the interview day ends.

Maybe I can ask my student host for help on this one, but I'm concerned he or she will be in class when I need to get going. Ideas?

Edit: Just called the hotel I'd reserved as a contingency plan, and they offer free luggage storage. So if my student host can't help me on the luggage front, Candlewood Suites Omaha Airport wins!

I'm interviewing the 30th as well! I interviewed here late last cycle and am excited that I have a second chance so early in the cycle. See you there

Was your interview last year around the same time? (If you don't mind me asking of course)

Didn't realize they were so strict with LOR requirements. I don't meet the non-science faculty lor. Anyone with an interview not have a non-science LOR? Did anyone in my position call to ask?

Thanks!

I got an interview without a non-science faculty letter. I am non-trad though so provided them with a letter from my boss.

I received an interview and I didn't have a non-science LOR. Though, I did have a committee letter so that might be a reason.

Medicalhopeful, I did call about that and the woman said you absolutely need a ns LOR from a professor who actually taught you in class and gave you a grade. She told me an app wouldn't be complete without it. This doesn't apply to non-trads (those who graduated before 2011).

Hey, so I just submitted my secondary application (8/30). I'm confused about the timeline - will I hear BACK in 3-4 weeks, or will I be ready for Creighton to review my application in 3-4 weeks, then wait another few weeks to hear back?

Just wondering how quickly/slowly this process moves from here.

They'll look over your application, thoroughly check the LOR and make sure they meet the requirements and they say that'll take 3-4 weeks to become complete.

Then it takes however long they decide to look over your completed application and make a decision.

Did it take most people here the whole 3-4 weeks to be "complete"?

Interviewed here yesterday!

Just throwing this out there in case it helps reassure someone else:

My student hosts really tried to impress upon me just how low-stress my interview day was going to be, and they were not kidding. The atmosphere is wonderful, and everyone is very friendly and welcoming. There's no reason to walk into this interview day with any degree of anxiety at all - Just be open and make conversation with the other interviewees and you'll be fine.

They talked a bit about the number of applicants they get. I don't have my notes with me, but if I recall correctly, this is how the applications/interviews/acceptances break down:

6900 applications
609 interviews
406 acceptances
152 matriculants

Thanks much! I interview in a week and I keep hearing it is "low stress", but it is nice to have someone directly experience it.

Wow, these numbers are far more optimistic than the USNWR numbers. I hope they're right!

Edit: whoops, thought I was reading the UPitt forums, haha! Please forget this post.

Your edit made me laugh really hard. I expect my Pitt interview to be harrowing, but who knows. By the way, I heard recently that they hate when you call it UPitt, so watch out!

If my letters all have the green check marks and all have "Yes" under meets requirements, am I complete?

You will get an email specifying that you are complete

Ah bummer. I thought when I had a "yes" under meets requirements, they had looked over my letters and determined they were alright. 🙁

Has anyone had trouble getting their essays to save on the secondary? I want to cry. This is one of the last ones I'm submitting and I just want it to be IN. Like, now.

That is what the "yes" means, so your letters should be all set. All that happens next is that you receive an email officially confirming everything. I wouldn't get your hopes up TOO much, but it wouldn't surprise me if you end up getting the email tomorrow (since today is Labor Day).

Try a different browser, I tried with safari and had a couple issues. Not that I am assuming you have safari, just suggesting a change 🙂

Hoping you can let us know how it went! I am interviewing in 2 weeks so it would be great to know what to expect 🙂

Ah, awesome! Thank you! I want to interview here really badly. Boyfriend went here for UG and he lights up like a Christmas tree whenever I mention a possible weekend at Creighton. Something about a great zoo and art museum and Irish pub.

So I just realized part of my problem, or what I think it is, with my Creighton application- it says that my letters of recc. don't meet the requirements. According to their guidelines they do, but maybe they don't understand that. Any suggestions?

I would just email them and ask, maybe outline whose letter meets what in the email. Their admissions staff seems pretty responsive.

I have the same question... I don't meet the LOR requirements yet I am marked as "Complete."

Ya it shows me as complete as well. But I never received the complete email that some people claim so I looked into it.

I received a "Complete" email though. If you are marked complete overall on the status page, I don't think you should worry.. but it wouldn't hurt to contact the admissions office to make sure.

I didn't receive that email though- I just got a receipt email for paying for the secondary.

You were right! Complete e-mail today after submitting 8/30. Quick turnaround, that's awesome.

How long did it take you guys between being complete and getting II?

So after my letters issue, I emailed them- they responded very quickly and they just needed some clarification- one of my professors hadn't stated what he taught so they didn't know if I had a non-science faculty letter or not. They got it taken care of and then I got the completed email right after.

Hey all, to those of you that have interviewed already, how long were each of the two interviews? Interview feedback suggests 30 minutes each but the schedule suggests closer to an hour each.

I think mine were scheduled to be 30 minutes, but actually went over by 10-15. They build in a buffer zone to accommodate us chatty folk, I suppose. Also, because the interviewers rotate through applicants, you will have downtime before/between/after interviews, during which you'll sit and talk with your fellow applicants while other people are being interviewed.

Thanks surely, haha I appreciate you dealing with all my questions!

Interview day was fantastic! Kind of a long day, but they were the most laid back interviews I have ever had and everyone was super nice! If anyone has any questions just let me know!

Great to hear! I'm flying to Omaha on Wednesday for a Friday interview day 🙂 So excited and nervous!

Don't be nervous at all, everyone is super super nice! If you are staying in a hotel, I was very happy to learn that most of them have free shuttles to take you anywhere you want to go at just a phone call away (I used Hampton)! I took one to the old market the night before and toured the "night life" down there, then they took me to my interview (and picked me up) the next day. It was great!

Omaha was great! The old market area was lively and full of things to do. Plus, Creighton has a TON (7?) hospitals in their system to do rounds and rotations through. Honestly, it was better than I was ever expecting and is really making me think of my future plans.

StudentDrWho, would it be feasible to bring 2 pairs of shoes? One dressier pair, and one for walking? I heard the day is long with lots of walking, should I only bring 1 pair?

The interview is definitely lengthy, and since you tour both the hospital and med school there is quite a bit of walking. That being said, you start the day in one building (not a real admissions "office") and end in another. It you wanted to bring another set of shoes you would have to carry them around with you all day, I don't think there is anywhere you could store the other pair at all. Sorry I can't be of more help :/

The day before you 😉

That answers my question, thank you! I will just wear the dressier pair. May have to brave the blisters

I interviewed recently as well. For the person who asked about shoes.. I intended to wear my heels for the majority of the day and then my professional looking flats for the tours... but I ended up just wearing my flats the whole day after an M1 told me she did that and nobody would care. It was SO much nicer not having to worry about heels! Also, I agree with the others about the vibe of Creighton.. I had such a great time there and Omaha is awesome. Everyone is so happy (not just the students.. but everyone in the city!) and nice. I hung out with a bunch of M1s and every single one of them absolutely loves it there. I could definitely see myself at that medical school 🙂 Also, trust what everyone says about the interview day being very stress-free! The faculty members and students want to make you feel comfortable!
