Anyone else have trouble with this question? Between my personal statement and 3 essays on AMCAS I don't know that there is much else for me to talk about :/

Same. Not really sure what to put.

slightly annoyed that there's no "save" button! just inputted all my prereqs but am not quite sure what i'm gonna put for the second essay and it'd be nice to be able to save that work rather than do it all over again.

I got one of those admissions emails from Dartmouth a few weeks..did anybody else here get one? Are these emails just for our $$ or do they actually indicate that schools see potential in us?

Well, I submitted. Not a bad secondary, though the unable to save thing is a bit annoying.

Complete email a couple minutes ago.

Is there a character limit for these secondary essays?

I e-mailed Dartmouth to ask. Here is the reply:

"There are no set limits on the essay, but we don’t expect more than the equivalent of a 1 page word document."

Guys,

For those of you who uploaded the optional photo to the secondaries, did you use a professional picture or a more casual one?

I was gonna use a more professional picture but I guess its up to you!

Hey guys, how much was the secondary fee for Dartmouth?

maybe a silly question -- are yall answering the "plans for 2013-14 academic year" question in bullet form or paragraph?

I'm personally entering in paragraph form, I'm not sure if one is more acceptable than the other? Does anybody know?

I suppose you can't really go wrong with paragraphs, especially seeing that there isn't really a character limit on the questions.

Just submitted! Yeah I listed my courses but described my planned activities in paragraph form 😛

Going off of previous threads, consensus seems to be 40% in favor of talking about why Geisel and 60% in favor of something unique about yourself that shows you're not just a robotic premed.

I personally wrote a paragraph, I think it offers a bit more candor to whatever you're trying to get across. However, I've heard of plenty of applicants who have a whole lot to say and utilize bullet points so that they get everything they want in.

--wait, answered own q--

This is just my opinion, but the question is "...which could be helpful to the Admissions Committee as we review your file." To me, that part of the question indicates that they are looking for something related to the applicant's suitability for medicine and/or the applicant's interest in/suitability for Dartmouth.

Writing about something that makes you unique and not a robotic premed is definitely not a bad thing, but I think that they are more interested in learning why you think they should admit you. To me, that means writing about something that makes you unique AND suitable for Dartmouth.

Thanks for the information!

The Dartmouth secondary says to only send 2 letters but I've irreversibly sent 5.

Do you think this is a problem? Any remedies?

Thanks!👍

EDIT: On the website, it says "at least two". Problem solved.

On my list of schools, should I put this one down as a "match" or a "reach" at 34 and 3.7? (Trying to finalize a list now that secondaries are coming in)

Based on MSAR accepted stats, Dartmouth is a 72 LizzyM. You're a 71. I guess that's a match, maybe a reach depending on your outlook.

totally adapting my pritzker essay to dartmouth's second. it's great it's so open ended!

The Pritzker diversity one? Did the exact same thing 👍

lol at changing every mention of pritzker to Dartmouth, and every university of Chicago to geisel som

submitted and paid. i wouldn't mind going to Mayo East. or is mayo really Dartmouth West?

Did I just screw myself over on this question ""plans for 2013-14 academic year" ?

I am going to be in school so all I did for this was just list my courses; i thought that is all they wanted. Were we supposed to write a paragraph about our activities, etc.? I feel so bad. 🙁

You did not screw yourself over. Relax. The question could have been approached In many different ways. Listing out courses is one of them and seems completely fine to me. Don't worry. 🙂

Adding on to this question - for those of you who are students in 2013-2014, did you provide your senior year co-curricular activities and/or a description of them?

I got my secondary before being AMCAS verified. Can I submit before I'm verified too? Or should I just pre-write my essays and submit the minute I'm verified?

You can submit before you are verified, but your file will not be complete due to the LORs.

Hi - I was wondering if someone could post the secondary questions? Thanks!!

I submitted the app and the secondary fee, but my letters are not showing up as received. Is this normal?

Did anyone get a "complete" email?

quick question!

So for the first question I'm going to list courses and say how I'm continuing my research.

But would it be bad to explain to them that i have applied for a job for the fall (doesnt interview till the beginning of the fall) or talk about how I'm in contact with a free clinic to set up volunteering. It makes me nervous because they aren't set in stone obviously.

I probably should just send them an update if these workout?

I would send them updates - I wouldn't put anything in an app that wasn't set in stone because it would then be fair game to come up in an interview.

Complete! :luck:

(No email, I was just checking the secondary website)

EDIT: Still no email, but I noticed they said it can take up to 3 weeks for them to mark us as "complete".

I don't quite follow. Can you elaborate on the connection between Dartmouth and Mayo? Sorry for displaying my ignorance... 😳
