2013-2014 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've got both emails too, and I've been waitlisted. I'd like to hold out on paying them, esp. if I don't have to...does anyone know when the deadline for what the email is asking actually is ?

how did you know you were waitlisted through the mail or email

I didn't think they announced the wait list until March. They specifically said that everyone was under review until that time.

This is what I was told at my interview as well.

Interview invite 12/23, complete end of July and nothing but silence until today! Scheduled for end of January.
so much like!!!! Congratulations on your II! This gives me hope, too 😀

Still waiting on a decision, but did anyone else feel that the students seemed terribly overworked and unhappy on interview day? I got that sense nearly universally, and it wasn't even exams week :/ Emory looked great on paper to me, but the students seemed miserable. Did I just get a bad draw?

Hmm that's interesting. I interviewed on a Friday (way back on 10/4) on a day they had morning exams, yet at least 30 students came up to talk to us while we waited for our interviews. All of them were really excited to answer questions and I walked away impressed with how friendly all the students were. Maybe you got a bad draw, or maybe it was later into the semester and by that point they were overworked?

I interviewed 12/13. We actually didn't get to see nearly that many students, and when I asked what some of their interests were outside of medicine, I even got blank stares!! It scared me off a bit.

The students I talked to in September were happy and almost bubbly. The whole atmosphere was welcoming. Perhaps you got them on a bad day?

Has anyone received an acceptance yet (the ones that were mailed within the last week), by chance? I'd like to know if my anticipation is misplaced at this point (at least for immediate acceptance).

+1

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but a similar delay happened during my interview round of acceptances. I received an informal notification via email and then didn't get my letter for over a month.

Emory, quit being so shy and invite me for an interview please. I swear I'll take you up on the offer.
Haha, seriously. I'm happy at the moment, but I wouldn't mind getting an invite either.

Ahhh congrats and good luck!! Keeps the hope alive for the rest of us still waiting 🙂

Thanks!
my interview is on the 3rd, so there could be plenty more dates in Feb available. Hope those waiting get some good news!

LOL. Glad to hear I am not alone!

Oh you are most certainly not. I was so caught off guard with how the group interview actually felt that I blanked, became completely tongue tied, and was unable to come up with creative or quirky answers like the other 2 interviewers haha. I'm hoping the interview does not matter much at Emory or I'm royally screwed. ...

Agreed, I definitely I had a case of stage fright during that interview. I felt like I was in front of drama class, delivering a monologue on my life story. Let's just say I made the interviewer panel burst out in laughter more than once at my ridiculous answers...and I wasn't even trying to be funny!

Me after the interview was over: :bang:

Still nothing for the Dec 23rd wave of acceptances? Can't believe no one on SDN has reported anything.

I don't think they have accepted very many people so far. Seems like most of us are on silent hold.

Anyone else feel like the group interview here was kind of awkward?
Really?... you must of drew a short straw because my interview was not awkward at all it was pretty relaxing.... I felt like the group interview was short because we got asked only 4-5 questions.

It was definitely the most uncomfortable interview experience I have had by far. It felt like some cheesy personality contest.
Lol I felt like that in the beginning of the day, but once we broke of into the groups it was fine.

Do not worry you probably did fine. The only part that was funny was in our tour the tour guild was making sarcastic jokes and some students were lost and did not know what to do. 🤣

Maybe I drew a short straw. I thought the set-up was odd, it felt like I was on one of those old 1970s dating shows. I practically expected them to say, "Contestant Number One, please describe your ideal date..."

Looking back at the group interview, I don't really think I got to know my 2 fellow interviewees very well at all. So it makes me wonder, what are they really looking for here? Like Ambitionista said, it seemed more of a personality contest than anything else.

Is there going to be another release of acceptances?

Hey there! I was a little surprised to see this being said - and it makes me sad. Normally there are literally dozens of students coming up to say hi to the applicants, even on test day. If you went in December, that's when the M1's started their first real course block, plus anatomy, plus out patient experience (OPEX). So if they seemed a little overwhelmed, I'm not shocked, but it's a pretty temporary thing. And the M2's (like myself) are all studying for step1.

I'm sorry if you had a less-than-impressive interview day. I think you must have gotten a bad draw, because I don't consider that to be normal.
