2013-2014 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Should we assume waitlist/rejection if we haven't received a packet yet? Or is everybody just all quiet on the western front?

has anyone heard anything about second look? also is there an accepted student facebook group?

I emailed the admissions office about second look, and they said that is usually on a Friday in late April. They haven't confirmed the date yet but would be in touch via email.

Hey guys,

I'll be traveling to Atlanta in a few weeks to visit and find a place to live. After quickly skimming through this thread, I didn't find specifics on housing.

Does anyone have any suggestions for apartments close to campus? Are there any I should definitely stay away from? I'm considering finding a furnished place, but I'm not sure yet.

Really all opinions are welcome. I'd really like to have a short list of places that I've heard good things about before I arrive.

Thanks

Hey all, I am currently a grad student here (not-med) and could probably offer you some advice for house.

There are some go to services that can help you find housing in the area, such Promove, who are paid to do so and I think they do it without a fee.

If you actually come out to see the campus, Briarcliff Road off of Clifton Road, the street that campus lies on, is full of apartment complexes. Campus Crossings is the go to for a lot first years, but it's really only ideal for that first year.

I personally don't live in either, as I found a few people that were willing to share a house and did the whole craiglist search till we found a cheap 3 bedroom.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

Post interview waitlists and condolences probably will come out today or tomorrow. My September interview feels like a lifetime ago. It will be nice to finally know my status.

really? 😱
for some reason I had the 31st stuck in my head

Just a guess. Bad news on a Friday tends would make sense.
haha well that gives people the weekend to recover..
But I'm like 97% sure there was a date on that yellow sheet in our folder... which is no where near me at the moment

Congrats to those that got in! I am a 4th year graduating student if anyone has questions. For those of you searching for housing, I would recommend Post Briarcliff over Campus Crossing. The majority of my class lived in Post Briarcliff the first 2 year and that was where a lot of the social events were because they had a pretty good pool and patio with grills. I lived a Campus Crossing my first year and really did not like it, the place is just poorly run and the parking is a pain. My second year I moved to Post. I am currently living in a condo in Brookhaven which I probably like the best because it is within walking distance to some good bars and restaurants as well as better running. It is easier to get to Grady and Emory Midtown from here and not too hard to get to Emory main campus or the VA. My landlord is trying to rent it because I am leaving for SF in june if anyone is interested. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/apa/4376205851.html

No final notice yet. Just waiting for the inevitable email.

So did anyone not get on the waitlist? I feel like this list is huge considering the number of responses, and the email gave a range of only ~4-20 people getting accepted off the waitlist from year to year...and yes I got waitlisted as well

Look at last years thread. on SDN, ~10 waitlisted, 0 rejected, ~4 accepted (some of which did not post with the posting 10)

Hi everyone! I just withdrew my acceptance offer from Emory today. Great school, just not the right fit for me. Good luck to everyone on the wait list and congrats to everyone accepted!

As someone on the waitlist, I just wanted to say thank you for withdrawing once you decided it wasn't the right school for you. Good luck to you at whichever school you decided to attend!

Does anyone know if Woodruff finalists/winners have already been selected? On interview day, Emory said finalists would be selected by the end of March, but nobody on SDN had mentioned anything about it :/

I think they have already. I called the school to find out about merit aid a bit ago and the guy I spoke to said their merit aid has been given out already.

decided to not accept my waitlist spot. Good luck to those still waiting, hope you guys hear some good news!!

Just withdrew. Couldn't pass up a full ride to my state school. Especially when Emory was offering me all loans.

withdrew. by the way, how did you guys withdraw your application. i sent them an email. is that the proper way? I didn't get a response.

By 'withdrew' do you guys mean from the WL or that you turned down an acceptance? I think an email is fine to withdraw from the WL but that a phone call would be more appropriate if you're turning down an acceptance.

I withdrew my acceptance via email and I got a confirmation email within 24 hours. It really is not a big deal if you don't call. In fact given the time of year that it is, I'm sure the office would appreciate fewer phone calls.

Very pleased to announce that I've been accepted off of the alternate list as of this afternoon! What an amazing feeling. I look forward to starting here in the fall!

Congrats! Were you notified via a call from June in admissions?

i withdrew gl to everyone on the wait list

Thank you! And yes, June was the one who delivered the good news! Such a nice lady.
Ahhh this is both exciting and nerve-racking given it occurred before the June 1st date Emory mentioned as the typical beginning of waitlist movement in its waitlist email. Congrats once again to you, and I'm anxiously awaiting my phone call!

stupid question-- we are allowed to send updates still right? That whole "please do not send anything to the dean" thing is confusing me a little.
