2013-2014 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Im jealous of you guys. My premed committee won't even meet with me until Sept! Already done with the secondary though

I wonder if I should still apply here with how many applicants there are...

If you have great stats.. And some extra money. Then apply . 🙂

INTERVIEW! 😀 October 1

That's the day that I TA a lab, but I'll have to bribe the other TA to switch with me because there's no way I'm asking GW to reschedule 😛

Also, I was on hold for a month.

Congrats! Did you send any updates during the month?

I did and I am 99.9% sure that is why I got the interview!

Cue 100s of applicants spamming admissions with updates. Now I'm debating whether I should send an update. GW is in my bottom tier, but I'm desperate for interviews.

If it can't hinder your chances, but can potentially benefit them.. I don't see why not .

It doesn't seem like GW is reviewing these apps in order they received them. I was complete 7/16 and still no status update, whereas people after me already got updates
this is the case for most schools, which is why i cant figure out why so many people are so interested in when everyone who got iis was complete. not every person who reads applications over there moves at the same speed

Question guys!

What does this mean?

"Have you ever registered at an institution under a different name?"

Is it asking if I'm attending a college other than George Washington Univ. as an undergrad? Any why does it give me 2 lines?

What kind of updates do you recommend sending in? Did you mention your continued interest in the school or anything like that?

Not much has changed for me, other than I shadowed a doc for 2 days and enrolled in an online genetics class. I feel like these might be a little too pathetic to use for an update, haha!

It's asking if YOU have had a different name. Could refer to a maiden name or something.

Sorry this may have been asked but I don't really want to look through 11 pages of posts-- I havent' been verified yet (hopefully by this Friday), and I'm pre-writing.

It seems that most of you GOT a secondary before verification... is that right?

I got my secondary from them before I was verified. I was baffled.

Correct, I received the secondary invitation before verification.

Although other people did, you shouldn't assume you will get one before you are verified. It is now "high volume season" and admissions is doing more important things that getting secondaries out. That's not to say you won't get one early, but don't be alarmed if you don't get one until a week or two after you're verified. You will get it. Way to be proactive and pre-write!

People who had their status change from "complete" to "on hold"... Did GW email you with this info or did you see it from your account?

I am checking my account like a mad woman and nothing has changed and it would be a lot easier on my soul if I knew they update you with emails...

No emails when they do a status update. They do however send you an email for an interview.

There's no email update; it just happens on the account homepage.

Submitted July 25...just checked and I'm on hold. I really want an II here, so hopefully the hold doesn't last long.

I was complete on July 22nd and my status still says that my file is complete. Does this mean they haven't looked at my file?

First Interview! Very excited. Was my first app, so fitting.
Submitted secondary July 23.

GPA 3.8+, MCAT 31 ( or 35 if you believe GW really superscores, 12,7,12 and 10,11,10)

I heard that they receive 15k apps, interview a bit north of 1000, and accept about 300.
Good luck all!

If they accept 300 out of 1000, those are excellent odds compared to other schools, especially for the added benefit of interviewing early for us with an II. Good luck everyone!

i disagree, 30% is slightly on the lower side, a lot of schools, especially states ones are >40%

What do you mean by superscore?

Has anyone to date had luck with an in-the-area email here?

im also interviewing at georgetown a few weeks after, im not even going to bother with the in area email. I know its a significant amount of more money for me to fly to D.C. twice, but oh well.

Does George Washintgon has a region preference? the reason I ask is that I have sGPA 3.9+ over all 3.8+ MCAT 33, have research, volunteer, tutoring... I did not receive II from them and my application is complete since early july. I am still on the dreaded hold. should I be worried?

From what I understand, they are looking for a very specific type of applicant. Just because you checked off all of the appropriate boxes on the "premed to-do list" doesn't mean you will strike them as fitting perfectly into their mission.

Also remember that close to 15000 apply and only 1000 get interviewed. not everyone will get an II. I think people on SDN forget that and feel entitled to an II because of how strong their app is

No because there are plenty of other schools for you to gain acceptance from ; )

I am just worried since 3 of my schools are already sending out II, and I haven't got any... hopefully HOPEFULLY I will have one soon...

You seem to have great stats. GW is a crapshoot with 15k apps so hopefully you applied to many schools. Don't stress if you didn't get and II this early in the game!

I know I'm late to the GW party, but I'm about to submit my application (thanks AMCAS for taking 6 weeks to verify), but when I'm redirected to the payment page I get a warning that the security certificate has expired and that I shouldn't proceed to the page.

Anyone else experience this? Is it safe to put in my credit card when it keeps telling me the site "can't be trusted"?

Thanks!

I was having this problem and used a different browser, which solved the problem. I usually use Safari, but needed Chrome or Firefox apparently.

Oh hold.

So is the general consensus here about being on hold a good thing?

Starting to have sleepless nights thanks to this whole app process.

I think that the general consensus is that "on hold" is the kiss of death.

In reality, I don't think it's all that bad -- it sounds like plenty of people get pulled off of hold for interviews.

Of course this doesn't make me feel any better about also being on hold and/or skipped over for interviews.

I got put on hold before getting an interview invite.
