2013-2014 Georgetown University Application Thread

II just now! Complete end of September, interview in late Jan. Yayyy!

Does anyone remember who to email when updating the admissions committee post-interview?
Yes! I just interviewed yesterday and they said to email Dr. Anne O'Donnell c/o Mrs. Sullivan. Just put that in the subject line, write your email to Dr. O'Donnell, and email it to Mrs. Sullivan and she'll get it to her.

On another note, I was phenomenally impressed by their program, and now dangerously have my hopes up haha.

I was rejected by Georgetown in October, and then got an interview invitation today via email from the Dean. At first I thought it was a glitch, but the link did allow me to schedule an interview. Can someone please explain this to me? I've never heard of this happening before.

Sounds like the Dean disagreed with the initial decision to decline an interview. I would schedule and then call or email admissions.

II today 🙂 complete 9/12. 🙂

CAP'ed. Interview early Oct. Non-traditional applicant.

waitlisted.
Does georgetown interview everyone before letting us know if we're accepted off the waitlist? Does that mean we have to wait until next year?

Saw the question of when CAP'ed people can expect to start to hear acceptances earlier in the thread but didnt see a response. I remember Mrs. Sullivan saying that they start going through CAP'ed LOIs in December but the 2013 thread seems that they didn't start sending out acceptances till May. Anyone with more information or insight on this? Thanks.

I don't have any more information but I would guess that they start accepting from CAP once a) the interview season is over and b) some accepted applicants withdraw. This probably occurs in March/April/May as people get their financial aid offers and decisions from other schools. I remember Mrs Sullivan saying the same thing, that they look at the CAP list in December, but I think that's more to internally sort the list into people who are sending letters of interest vs not. If you keep updating/expressing interest in Gtown once the interview season is over, they assume you are still interested, and will consider you when accepted students withdraw.

Mrs Sullivan made it seem like CAP is a waitlist that you choose to stay on, by updating them every once in awhile letting them know you are still interested.

Hey all -

I'm interviewing here on December 19th and was wondering if there is the possibility of lodging with a student?

Secondary complete on 10/8 and have not heard anything.
OOS, 3.55 cGPA, 3.95 sGPA, 32 MCAT non-traditional.

Oh yes absolutely. I stayed with a student for my interview this week. Just go to their website and find the page about interview information and student hosting will be on there somewhere.

Great - thanks for that information!

How many people off this thread have been accepted vs. WL'ed thus far?

Hi, for those who have interviewed.. how optional is the breakfast/ sitting in on a class? Due to travel reasons, it would be great to skip those but I don’t want to be the only one! did others on your interview day come after those events?
Thanks!

I missed the breakfast and class...and I was the only one in my interview group to do so. It was kind of awkward since I was the only one there "late," but I guess it didn't hurt me since I was ultimately accepted. In general though, I think if you can swing it travel-wise, it's nice to attend classes to learn as much about the school while you're there.

Been around 8 weeks since my interview and haven't heard anything yet. Have they been running longer than that as of late?

My interview day was very relaxed, it was totally acceptable to skip the breakfast and class. In fact, I sort of wish I had since I was nodding off during the lecture which was embarrassing. Dang time zones. Anyway, the important things happen after that, so skip if you would rather.

Anyone remember if curriculum is graded or P/F? Having trouble finding it on the website

It is NOT true pass/fail. They use the Honors/high pass/pass/low pass/fail system, which is basically just grades.

CAP'd. interviewed Oct 22nd.

Not gonna write a letter. Good luck all.

Waitlisted/cap'd. Don't know if I should bother writing a letter...feel like I would just repeat my secondary. Is it mandatory to write one if you want to still be considered for a spot?

Yeah if you want to get off the waitlist, you need to write a letter of interest. I haven't written one yet...

Thanks. I'd think about it. You remember how long the letter has to be?...why does Georgetown try so hard to be unique.

My pre health advisor said LOIs should be 1/2-3/4 of a page long. Georgetown told us to make it a 3 paragraph persuasive letter.

I received an II today for Georgetown's MD/PhD program. Looking forward to coming to DC for the visit; I'm a big fan of Georgetown.

Congrats!!
When were you complete?

Rejected M.D./Ph.D. I think I was complete around the end of September.

Any ideas as to the timing of the actual interview? Any clues in terms of more interview spots being opened? I'm MD/PhD and haven't heard anything, complete in Sep.

There were plenty of MD/PhD interview spots still available in February.

I honestly think I was the last person to submit a secondary. Just submitted a minute before the deadline.

hey guys, was fortunate enough to receive an interview here for early february. does anyone know how early georgetown's class fills up and if it is a huge disadvantage to be interviewing that late?

Seems like they're taking longer than usual to get decisions out. Had my interview November 4 and still haven't heard back yet :/ Was wondering if anyone who interviewed around that time heard anything?

I interviewed 10/19 and just heard two days ago. I wouldn't worry too much.

CAP'ed. Which is unfortunate, Georgetown was definitely one of my top choices.
Can anyone please let me know who I should email my update letter/LOI to?
Thanks, and good luck to everyone else waiting.

How do you know if you have been CAP'ed? Check the application portal and see if your status has changed from Submitted to something else?

Address the letter to Dr. Anne O'Donnell and cc Mrs. Sullivan. I think it's supposed to be 1 page or less as well.

Nice! Did you send the persuasive essay?

Yes, though I don't know how persuasive it was! I focused more on my personal reasons for wanting to attend Georgetown than why I was a perfect fit. I guess that's kind of the same though!

Has anyone submitted a letter of interest post interview but before any decision? Is this a good idea if Georgetown is my top choice?

Has anyone heard anything in regards to II/rejections that was complete in mid-October?

I'm currently writing my letter right now and was wondering if you said something about going to the medical school for sure if accepted?

Also, does anyone know if I should send my letter as soon as possible or should I wait until winter break is over since I'm not sure if they will look over the letters during the break?

I just wanted to make sure about the CAP email. So I'm supposed to email Mrs. Sullivan, c/o Dr O'Donnell (and I address the email to Dr O'Donnell as well). Is that right?
Also, what should the subject of the email be? And should I just copy and paste the text into the body of the email, or attach as a .doc or .pdf ?
Thanks fellow sdn-ers!
