If my committee sends a letter packet with other letters as well, do I need to list those individually or just put my committee letter info on the secondary?

More premed neurosis: the instruction page said to "check the appropriate box" if you have a committee letter and then enter the institution name. I entered the name but didn't see a box to check, does anyone remember there being a box? I just saw the committee letter area, a big "OR" and then the evaluator area and didn't see anything to check.

Same question. I've opened the secondary in both Chrome and Safari, highlighted the page to make the text boxes more visible, and still no evidence of a box to check.

OOS, LizzyM score of 69. Received secondary before I got verified.

For those who can't find the boxes, try hitting tab or shift+tab.

I don't understand how all these people submitting after me are being marked as complete before me. My letters still haven't been received and I submitted 7/16 (primary verified 7/23). I already called and she said it's normal to take 4-6 weeks to process letters, but many people have posted here that submitted after me and have their letters received already.

This is so frustrating, I haven't had any trouble with letters at any other school, so it must be something on their end. 😡

I submitted my secondary 7/16, AMCAS was verified 7/23, and they haven't even processed my secondary yet.
This is what my status page looks like:

This section is to confirm receipt of your (Requested Secondary, Payment Received & Verified Amcas Application)

Your verified AMCAS application was received.
A unique Login ID and Password to complete your secondary application were sent to you via e-mail on 07/15/2013.
Your application fee, or fee waiver request, was received on 07/16/2013.

Im wondering if something went wrong when I submitted my secondary? They took my money just fine..

they just seem to be having trouble with letters for some reason

It takes 4-6 weeks for them to manually process your letters

I submitted my secondary on 8/08. My letters of recommendation and secondary were processed on 8/22. If you're still waiting, I would call them.

Guys, there is no need to fret just yet. The admissions office at NYMC is staffed maybe by 5 people max, and they have to mill through 12K applications a year. Considering that the time to apply is only 6 months, this is an average 2K apps a month, with the majority on the front end; interviews will not be starting until October this year. They say 8-12 week turnaround time for a reason. NYMC does things slowly.

Yankee, are you saying interviews or interview invitations?

Damn!! Both of my science letters are from biochemistry and I'm an exercise science major.

$35 mistake

So currently a student here if you have any questions I will try to answer (when I have time) (someone did this for me so figured I would pass it forward)

A few notes from my experience
-the time lines are a guide not exact
-the secondary was easy
-they tend to look at the whole person when selecting the class
-the staff are here to help you

Does Valhalla feel small and isolated or does it feel part of a larger and more populated area?

I would say it feels a little small (coming from a big city)

But having also lived in small towns I don't find it an issue. Its not so far from the city or some of the larger suburbs like White Plains which students will go to on weekends or evenings.

there are also some students who live in the city or nearby towns and commute.

Personally I like that its outside of the city, its quiet and conducive to studying which your going to be doing a lot of. Also most people live on campus which can be nice since everyone is already here for social things and all.

There are some draw backs though
the campus is a little isolated, there is a greater reliance on having a car, you have to go off campus for a lot of things which requires a car (however they are gradually developing the campus more)

I don't meet the non-science faculty lor requirement. I wanted to apply here!! 🙁

They e-mailed me to let me know that my research adviser letter did not meet the requirements for science faculty letter. I contacted one of my chemistry instructors, and luckily she wrote the letter for me and submitted it to AMCAS in less than a week, keep in mind I have not had a class with her in 7 years...
I really want to get an ii here. So hopefully this did not put me too far behind.

wait...have you guys gotten any sort of contact from NYMC after submitting your secondaries?

There's no place to check your status right? All I see when I go back to the page is a little thank you note for submitting.

Just kidding I figured it out.

I submitted 8/17 and letters still haven't been processed, so I'll wait until the first or second week of September I guess before emailing them?

I submitted 7/16 and my letters still haven't been received. But some people submitted after me and their letters were received, so I have no idea what is going on.

Luckily they haven't started handing out interviews, so I'm not too concerned yet. I will probably call next week if they still aren't received.

Do we start counting the 4-6 weeks after we submitted or when our fee was processed?

After carefully, I'm guessing its after the fee :/

Submitted/payment processed on 8/19, marked complete today

Submitted/payment processed on 8/19, marked complete today

There was a slight gap between my submission and when they received my FAP documents over mail :/

Even then, I was still complete way before 8/19 :/

NYMC does not send emails to let you know your application is complete, you need to check the status page.

So I submitted my secondary to NYMC in July, primary verified by AMCAS (finally) 8/24, but my secondary is still not complete with NYMC because they haven't listed my LORs. They say the have they have the secondary, payment and verified Amcas application.

Is this normal?

Dude, you're insanely behind everyone else in the processing. Medical school applications is a first come, first served process. NYMC didn't have your completed AMCAS until at least 8/24, so they would not have processes your application until then at the very least - and they get 12K applicants a year. They claim an 8-12 week processing time for a reason - expect to hear back in November at this point.

Dude, I submitted my secondary mid-July, my primary was verified 7/25, and I'm still not complete. Chill.

I submitted my secondary on 7/23 they just marked my app as complete 8/27. So you are fine.

I am filling out the secondary application for NYMC and I realize that I don't have a LOR from a professor of my major. I'm a chemistry major and I have two from bio and one from horticulture. On the app it says that I must select an option that indicates one of my LOR be from my major. Are my chances for this school screwed?

I would call and ask. My intuition though is that it's probably going to reflect poorly on your application in general if you don't have a major professor providing a recommendation letter - presumably you spent the majority of your studies in that department, so schools might wonder why you did not have someone from your department submit a LOR - Unless your like a ~3.8/36 kind of applicant of course.

I'm in that group because all the engineering professors I had constantly talk about how they're uncomfortable writing letters for premeds because they have no idea what makes a good doctor :/ at least at my school...

I got one and it ended up not having a letter head -_-

hey guys on my status page it says all the letters are recieved but under seconday app section it only says:

Your verified AMCAS application was received.
A unique Login ID and Password to complete your secondary application were sent to you via e-mail on 07/15/2013.
Your application fee, or fee waiver request, was received on 08/01/2013.

does this mean Im complete or what? does it still have to say "secondary recieved" for me to be complete?

If all of your letters were received, you should get a message like this:
LETTER RECEIVED:
07/30/2013 from Dr. X
07/30/2013 from Dr. Y
07/30/2013 from Dr. Z
07/30/2013 from Dr. A

** Your Secondary Application was completed on 07/30/2013 and is currently under review. **
If you don't have this "secondary application complete and under review" sentence after all of your letters were marked as received, you should probably contact them, as there may be an oversight on their part.

Has anyone received an interview invite yet? I've been complete since 8/6. I know last cycle the interview invites started going out in the last week of august. Anyway... Good luck everybody!

I submitted the day I got my secondary (7/15) and I still haven't even been marked as complete yet. It's totally cool though, I was worried I was the only one until I saw this thread. Just gotta be patient I guess.

I received my secondary August 8th and submitted the same day. Just got marked complete today (9/3).

I submitted 7/23 and still incomplete. Kind of frustrating but glad to see I'm not the only one!

Because of the holiday schedule this year.. they're not starting to interview until October. So it's a little pushed back from last year!

The office is also closed today and tomorrow, as well as the 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th - so don't panic if you don't get through to them those days 😀

Hmmm... I applied early decision so I am supposed to have a final decision by 10/1. Either way I am glad to know the days the office will be closed so I don't have to check my email like a madman. Thanks for the info.

"you're insanely behind everyone else in the processing." i'd say even if you didn't mean that literally, it is still a pretty annoying comment to make. amcas took much longer to process applications this year so mcreed prbly submitted his primary around late june or early july. would that be considered "insanely behind everyone else" for every application cycle? don't try to state something like that as if it's a fact when someone on the admissions committee may not really think that's the case. :meanie:

Yes, but because of how long it took for McCreeds primary to be verified, his application is on the BACKEND of things at NYMC, and it had only been ~1 week since AMCAS verified their application...1 week turnaround two months into the season at a high volume school?

Please don't assert that I don't know what I'm talking about. I attend NYMC.

Not that I have anything against you, but I can't help but notice that being a Master student at NYMC doesn't equal having some sort of inside info about NYMC med school admissions.

Guys, can we not? It's stuff like this that makes me hate these forums sometime... Unless you're a member of the admissions committee, none of us know how the process works. Can we just all plead ignorance and only talk about helpful things? Like why is everyone interested in going to NYMC?

It is true, that in and of itself, being a graduate student at the university would not by default mean I am aware of the admissions process for the School of Medicine at NYMC. So, where am I getting my information from?

Graduate Program Director - member of the admissions committee; Academic Advisor - member of the admissions committee; 2 professors in my department who have also advised me in my preparation to apply - members of the admissions committee; 2 professors outside of my department with whom I have taken classes - members of the admissions committee; Research Mentor - member of teaching faculty for School of Medicine - has many colleagues who are on the admissions committee that have offered insight to the admissions process at NYMC. These people have lent much advice as I have prepared this past year to apply to medical school, providing general comments about the medical school admissions process, as well as insight to how things work at NYMC.

Amygdarya, feel free to ignore my comments if you do not find them helpful.
