2013-2014 Northwestern University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, it's rolling.

It's not really rolling. They will defer a decision on the majority of candidates they interview until March--well past the last date to interview. This way people that submit late won't be penalized.

Hmm...interesting. Thanks. On their site it just said "Expect a decision 6-8 weeks after interviewing" and I couldn't remember details from last year's thread.

There is always a "penalty" for submitting late. Holding back on decisions does not change the fact that interview slots are being depleted throughout the Fall. Making decisions late does help to even the odds for those who interview late.

Is anyone else not able to access the secondary? It just does nothing when I enter my info.

I think the issue you may be having is that there are actually 2 Northwestern application sites (confusing, I know), the first of which will go unresponsive once you access the second (i.e. the actual secondary).
If you're trying to access this site:
https://medicalapp.northwestern.edu/login.cfm
move on to using this site:
https://www.applyweb.com/public/login?feinmed

I think it's a cookie issue. If you're using Chrome, try it in an incognito window.
+1. I've had issues accessing it through regular Chrome, but it appears to work just fine in an incognito window.

With Firefox, I was not even aware of the cookie issue.

Yeah, Chrome wasn't allowing me to log on... but Safari is!

This website is unclear as to when you submit your application... If I paid, does that mean I submitted? There's nothing new on my status page

They interview into February so unless you submit after February I think you'll be fine. Point is they really aren't any different from schools like Yale, Duke etc that are considered non-rolling because they will only accept a minority of students 6-8 weeks after the interview--most will be deferred.

Just submitted the secondary! I'm feeling pretty burnt out so these essays took me longer than I expected.

it works on chrome if you go incognito

No secondary here yet although I was verified on 6/27 :/

I wouldn't worry. According to MSAR they send the secondary to everyone. They probably just release it in batches so that their server doesn't get overloaded. I received my secondary about 5 days after the first mention on here, and was verified 6/17.

Hi everyone,

So my primary application was marked complete on 7/25 and all my scores and letters were complete by that time too. However, I have not received a secondary application from the North Western University yet. How long does it take them to send out the secondaries after receiving the primary application?😕

They just released it last week. I was complete on 7/12 and received it on 8/8. No II's have been sent so maybe give it another week before you call. You should get one eventually. Everyone does.

anyone know if there's a status for our letters anywhere? I don't ever recall it mentioning in the secondary if our letters were received

I was wondering that too... And DO we have to send them to Northwestern in a special way? I sent that letter they provide under the Letters of Rec section and my Premed office was like wtf.

My last secondary and the only one that was filtered as spam by Gmail. I had grown complacent because everything was getting through without any problems, then I check today and 75 emails back is the NW secondary, in between offers for natural male enhancement and a low rate mortgage...

Thanks! I just checked my spam and sure enough I received the secondary 6 days ago! I was wondering what was up!?

PS-- anyone still missing their secondary, check your spam folder!

wow. me and my friend both found the secondary in our spam. I wonder how many applicants they lose from that 😱

Honestly, I don't know many details about the old administration. From what I've heard through others, they didn't communicate that well with the MD administration, which led to issues integrating the MD and PhD portions of the degree (e.g. the MSTP students got last pick on M3 rotation schedules). Again, this is all secondhand. Now, I know that the administration works much more closely with the MD administration and integration back into M3 (from what I've heard) is no longer an issue. The new administration really is great; they have a whole system set up for when you're in the PhD years to check up on you and guide you through the program. Also, MSTP grand rounds are mandatory for all students in the program regardless of which stage they're in, which I think is really cool!
This is another recent article on the bad administration at Northwestern. I think we should all pay attention to this.

How does an equipment failure at the hospital effect the quality of education at Feinberg?

You know what, I really, sincerely hope that people out there are silly enough to let the grant fund embezzlement and equipment failure deter them from applying to NU; NU is among my highest choices for medical school, and if people wish to remove their name from the hat, I'm not about to complain about having less competition for admission here. #getrealhomie

Wow! Feinberg interview invite! Super fast turnaround. Submitted my secondary 8-13!

II about an hour ago!!! Super super excited since Feinberg is a top choice for me 🙂 Off to schedule it!

:luck: Congrats everyone.

I only recently submitted my secondary but hope they'll show me some love :xf:

Still haven't gotten a secondary. Complete 6/13. Should I email?

Congrats! When were you complete?

Thanks! I received the secondary 8/10 (a Saturday) and submitted it the same day. I think I was complete that following Monday.

And scheduled for Friday the 27th. Can't do Wednesdays so y'all have fun w/o me 😛

those that got interview invites, do you mind sharing your stats?

Not at all! 3.9/38 with a hodgepodge of ec's. I deleted my old mdapps since it was pretty easy for people that knew me to ID me haha
