2013-2014 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Secondary submitted 8/2
Secondary complete 8/15
Jumped into the small pool yesterday, 11/14

I'm hoping to not have to swim for too long before receiving an II...and hopefully, that's not wishful thinking!

Small-pooled yesterday as well! Submitted kinda late (9/22) and marked complete on 10/1.

Those who already interviewed from out of state: where did you stay? How did you get there from the airport? Is ohare the closest?

I stayed at the Marriott ~ 10min from campus. I used a rate code for the school (I think it's on the school's website), and paid around $80. I rented a car at O'hare and drove. It took me around 40 minutes to get there.

[quote="What percentage of small pooled applicants receive an interview invite?[/quote]

Anyone know this?

Ohare, rented a car (30-40 minute drive ^^), stayed at Sunset Motel (~2 minutes away, $35, surprisingly clean, managed by super nice couple)

It's been 10 weeks since I was deemed complete......shouldn't I have heard something?

This time of year is extremely busy for admissions. They give the 6-8 week time estimate based on averages across the whole cycle. So if you submit in July, it'd likely be quicker because they have less to do, whereas if you submit in September they have tons more applications to review. Just be patient, and if you're really worried, you can call admissions and ask them what the status of your app is. They always like to see applicants show initiative. Good luck! 🙂

This was uploaded on the CMS Accreditation update page by the dean. I guess the school has 26 days to go to fix the issues and they are about 25% finished.
The dean says it will probably be about 2 more weeks to reach 75%.

There are many moving parts to any process and the accreditation efforts are no exception. By my informal calculation, over 30 to 40 people on any given day are actively involved in trying to resolve the issues that relate to our citations. It's important we get this right.

Recently, I received an update on our accreditation website. To date, the website has been visited over 16,000 times, which includes over 3,500 unique visitors. Though the initial volume was high, we are still averaging between 250 and 500 hits a day.

It's very important that we keep this website up to date and, if you've been following along daily, you will notice that we have added new content every working day (M-F) the site has been up. As we move forward, we will begin to populate the site with "artifacts." Artifacts are documents that we will submit to support our written responses to the LCME questions.

We have reached the 25 percent completion point with about a month to go. I suspect that over the next two weeks, our ability to strike items off our checklist will go even faster. My personal goal is to be around 75% complete with two weeks left before our submission deadline. As things move forward, I am confident we will meet that goal.

To be perfectly clear, we have 2 weeks until we report on our progress to the LCME. The expectation is not that every single modification will be complete by then, just that we will have made significant progress. If the Dean's assertions are correct, I'd say that significant progress has been made. Most schools remain on probation for at least a year, so the fact that we've made 75% of the required modifications means we're doing pretty well.

Small pooled today
Complete 8/20 (or something)

*bump

can anyone comment on this? i'm assuming there is still a chance that you may not get an interview invite despite being small-pooled?

I think this has been asked a hundred times and nobody has responded because we can only speculate.

The link here might help though.

Excellent resource! Might I also suggest the following extremely reputable website?

Seriously, though, only those who actually review the applications know how many students are in the small pool. Clearly, not everyone in the small pool gets an invitation to interview; if they did, there would be no point to having a small pool.

accepted into class 2018. was on hold just found out. pretty excited will be accepting offer. ii 9/25 if anyone wants to correspond via email or fb just let me know.

So 11/6 I got the email saying that my application was still being considered and that I was "in the pool of applicants who may be invited to interview;" that is the small pool email yes? I was complete 9/24.

Anyone else still hanging out in the pool with me? Is there a pool party coming up that I can attend? I know it isn't exactly the season for it, but I'll bring the beers if you bring the burgers!

Hmm, scratch that. Snow showers are expected today. I promise if they let me in, or even interview me, I will give up my California weather ways. I already own several heavy coats that I'd love the opportunity to wear again!

Accepted as well, so so grateful and happy right now. I have some questions for current students, @tantacles - I'm PMing you 🙂

forgot to add, I interviewed early Nov

Gotcha! If anyone else has questions, whether you're accepted, about to interview, or just curious, feel free to PM me (M2) or @ahutni3 (M1). We're students at RFUMS, and we're happy to answer any questions you might have, whether they be about housing, curriculum, or anything else. If we can't answer, we'll direct you to someone who can.

Sorry, I am not a student yet! Just a hopeful! I did research with two CMS grads and have been really impressed with them. Put in a word @tantacles ! 👍

anyone want to do a facebook group - those going to cms? i think i might create one. i don't really like the avatar things

Just FYI, the admissions department will be starting up an official Facebook group for accepted students after the holidays, and it will include current students from all years.

Oh ok. it's probably wise to wait anyway till after dec. if anyone wants to add me on fb it's https://www.facebook.com/daniel.houser.90

Definitely a good idea. A lot of people ultimately use the Facebook group to find roommates, especially for those who want to save some money by living outside of student housing.

And just FYI, if you're interested in housing options in the area, there are a lot of them.

Student housing offers 1 or 2 bedroom apartments that generally cost around $850-$1100/month per student plus electric.

Woodlands, which is the same distance from the school as student housing, generally has 2-bedroom apartments for $1300-$1400/month total plus utilities ($700 each).

Navy housing, which is right across the street and is open to civilians, is an even cheaper option. My roommate and I split a 3-bedroom apartment for $1300/month total ($650 each) plus utilities. The buildings are more spacious than those from either student housing or Woodlands. I live about 1/2 mile away from campus.

There are also ample other options in the area, though those are the closest.

Finally, if you're choosing a roommate, make sure the person is 100% sure they're coming to the school before making a commitment in writing. A couple of my classmates signed leases and had their prospective roommates back out at the last second. Make sure you ask: "Are you on any waitlists?"

Hopefully you guys can learn from past mistakes.

complete 8/6 and small pooled 9/16. And nothing since. I guess I am proof that small pool does not = ii.

accepted today. do you know who all from 9/25 is going to end up going? I more than likely will.

Congrats! I actually don't have FB, but shoot me a PM or I'll PM you and we can talk about RFU!

Accepted off hold, interviewed early October. Not sure what I'm going to do yet...

Complete 10/10, small pooled 11/19....hoping for an ii soon!

The small pool is just a pool of applicants that have passed initial screening.

RFUMS interviews well into April. I was invited to interview here in April, and I was accepted outright after my interview. Just sit tight, have a beer (or a , and keep waiting!

Congratulations! If you have questions about the school, feel free to pop over a PM to me or @ahutni3. We're students at RFUMS, so we can give you all the information you need to help you make the best possible decision. We're obviously biased towards our own school, but we'll be honest about our perceptions.

I am very much interested in RFUMS, but I'm not sure how well I was able to convey that in their secondary. I have been "small pooled," but that's it do far. Is there anything I can do to express my interest and stand out at this point?

When were you invited for your interview though?

Unfortunately, pre-interview updates aren't accepted by our admissions department.

You have to be small-pooled in order to receive an interview, though, so just sit tight! We interview until mid-late April.

Oh wow, good to know. I figured most schools stopped sending interview invites around January.

Never assume you're rejected until you get a rejection letter! Schools all have different systems of inviting applicants, and there's no way to predict who does or doesn't get an interview.

Oh wow, good to know. I figured most schools stopped sending interview invites around January.

Most schools end up sending out invites until around April. The deadline to commit for accepted students is May 15th every year, so schools want to have all of their top choices for matriculants to have acceptances before then.

Also, with respect to the post tantacles wrote about living arrangements, I am currently in student housing so I can answer any questions anybody has regarding that. Good luck everyone!

Accepted!
I'm OOS and interviewed in late September. Heard back 3 weeks post interview.

Congratulations! If you have any questions about the school, feel free to PM @ahutni3 or me; we're both students at RFUMS and are happy to answer any questions you have or forward you to the right person if we can't answer them.

Any MD/PhD applicants in here? I finished everything up on 10/15 and haven't had any communication since. Any one else in the same boat?
