The BMS students tend to make themselves known; if I were you, I'd assume that Apex is a traditional applicant.

Oh I see. I guess I will take your word for it since I don't know any BMS students. Either way, congrats to APEX!
 
Not that I like to admit this…but just saw the CMS 2018 Facebook. There are 110 members now. So pretty much thats like half the class after subtracting 20 or so student ambassadors and admin members. The rest of the empty slots should be taken up soon by a lot of the BMS students. Losing hope as weeks tick by…..My only hope is that a lot of the ppl accepted got accepted to schools higher on their priority list 😀

Well, according to Tantacles or another current medical student: He was invited to interview in late March and interviewed in April. Then, was accepted by Chicago Medical School in early May without being wait listed. This was 2 years ago and I for one believe in trends. So, I am hoping they are still sending out invites and that the class is not completely full.

Yea I wrote the message in a rush. I think that there will be room for us and late interviewees, but not many though. But it looks like the "long post-interview wait" also started this year since I read through last year forum and it seems like none of them had issue with post interview wait like us…kind of making me nervous. Anyways, it looks like nothing we can do but wait it out 🙂

3 people, including me, from my interview day were accepted outright and are now attending. There is absolutely no way to predict who is going to be accepted.
 
I interviewed in late April, was waitlisted in May and accepted in June.

There is still time left to be accepted, so don't give up yet.
 
I interviewed in March, was waitlisted, and accepted last year as well

When you guys say wait-listed by Chicago Medical School, what do you mean? Do the adcom actually tell you that you are on a wait-list or are you told that your applications are continued to be evaluated or is it just post-interview silence?

I got an email about 2 weeks later saying that I was placed on a waitlist/alternate list.

I was informed that I was waitlisted. I didn't get accepted until extremely late. I didn't have any acceptances at the beginning of May
 
I am a current M1. Let me know if you have questions about CMS.

Do not lose hope on CMS admission. There is a lot of movement May till classes start. If you did not hear from the admission office, then its neither good or bad. At least you have not been rejected. You have to understand that the admissions office is very busy right now, especially with the BMS students. BMS students get CMS acceptance at the end of March, end of April, and mid May. About 70 BMS students will be accepted to the medical school.

Thanks for your response @tantacles regarding the structure of the admissions office/committee. I don't recall who, on this thread, had questions but your response is exactly what I meant. And, given your explanation, I completely understand how people can be frustrated when they've been waiting for a very long time.

To be clear, I am both a student and an employee. As am employee, I will say that unfortunately there are some things that are out of the control of the admissions office/counselors. As a student, I completely understand your frustrations. If I offended anyone, I apologize. My intentions were to shed some light on the fact that the admissions office and committee is working as best they can to process applications.

Keep in mind that a number of the accepted students in the CMS facebook group have multiple acceptances. Some of them are members of other c/o 2018 facebook groups. Also, some members of the group may have declined CMS and just haven't removed themselves from the CMS group. Don't lose hope.
 
I really do appreciate all of the current CMS students responding to these posts. For those of us frustrated by the long wait, it really helps to have all of you giving us insight to make sense of this stressful and complicated process. You guys really seem to be living up to the CMS reputation of a strong community of medical students helping one another out. Thanks again for taking the time and sorry for my little outburst of frustration earlier.
 
It looks like words got out at CMS about the uproar of frustration on this forum. But first off, I truly appreciate all the CMS students that are spending time reassuring current applicants about the process and giving us hope. 🙂
 
well look. what are the chances that a 3.8 35 applicant will attend CMS? The adcom philosophy and leadership needs to change. and with the $ 1.5 million they received in app fees this year, I'm sure that a little change is possible.

one of the probation issues was that the school was using student fees and tuition as part of their operating budget. most med schools dont do this, and for good reason. hence, im not surprised at the long wait. this is something that can be fixed for the future.

We have an applicant with a 3.8 and a 42 in my year, and the stats of matriculating students rise each year. Which students will attend is extremely variable depending on who gets accepted, so I don't think any of us can make broad statements about the admissions office's mission.
 
Could a current medical school student comment on the preceptorships? Are students matched to preceptors in areas in which they're interested? Have any students asked preceptors for LORs for residency programs? I am interviewing at Rosalind Franklin soon, and found the preceptorships to be one part of many I like about the school.

Preceptorships are randomly assigned; the preceptorship is a learning experience, and not one meant to get you a letter. Your letters for residency applications come from your third and fourth year, when you actually know what you're doing. The preceptorships are a great way to gain clinical experience, as you meet with your preceptor at least four times throughout the first year, interview a patient, and present to your attending preceptor each time. You then subsequently present these cases in a more formal presentation where you are critiqued.

Your preceptorship is basically a series of 4 or 5 afternoons where you see patients, and practice being a third year. The whole point of it is to get some experience in a non-threatening, non-spotlight manner. You wouldn't want to worry about trying to impress your preceptor (they aren't really judging you as you will be third year, anyway, as much as teaching you). Also, you only need 3 or 4 LOR's for residency, most of which come from your 4th year. You MIGHT use one from 3rd year, if you had a really good experience and liked your attending. So again, a letter from your preceptor really wouldn't help that much.
Don't worry, you will have plenty of opportunities to get LOR's. It isn't anything to stress out about or worry about until your 3rd year

Remember the time when you small pooled me? That felt great- cool. Refreshing. A hidden oasis within a blistering-hot application cycle.

Oh, and the day we went on our first and only date? December 4th. I remember the day like it was only 4 months ago...

I flew a direct flight so as to meet you as refreshed as possible. It cost me extra, but hey, you were worth it.

With my best (only) suit in tow, I was welcomed at the airport by one of my two amazing student hosts. What a great introduction we had!!

That day we spent together was magical. We laughed. We joked. You quizzed. It was like a Disney movie (without all the weird hidden messages in the clouds).

Yet before it seemed to even begin, our day together was over. As I left, you told me "I'll call in 6-8 weeks! I promise." Oh how my heart was a patter at the thought.

Over the weeks, to SDN I went. Premed Allopathic-School Specific-Rosalind Franklin-last page-scroll...refresh, repeat...

The days went by. Then weeks. And months. Before I knew it, 4 months had passed. I was a waste- a shell of an applicant. Grey, weary, and hungover with the dehydration of a love lost.

I called. Did you answer?
No.

I wrote. Did you answer?
In time.

"You are in post interview status," you coldly wrote. "Applicants typically hear back in 6-8 weeks." you repeated. "...but sometimes longer." It seemed so curt. So empty. Like a form letter...

Enough is enough. I can't be treated like this any longer! It's not me, it's you, Rosie! Even though I'll always have feelings for you- we're done.

As for me, I don't have the courage like you to let Rosie go. I will continue to check my email every single day hoping that she will write back to me. I will continue to have hope in this one-way relationship until Rosie tells me that it is officially over.

Does CMS send out rejection emails? If so, are they all sent out at the end of the application cycle, like in May?

I got small-pooled in September or October and was just invited to interview late February for a March 17th interview spot. Don't give up hope!
