2013-2014 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

It is so quiet in here! [Crickets] Any recent II or acceptances?

I wonder who has the record...I'm at 10 weeks and a day post-interview.

Officially the 17th week here. Haha might join @BlackBox and withdraw soon too. This waiting ....

The new record holder!

EDIT: Just realized you were accepted to Mich! Congratulations! I'm super happy for you!

EDIT 2: oh, you're withdrawing from that school. haha Well, I'm still glad you got in!

Haha thanks!! The waiting isn't as bad when you have acceptances.
I am the only record holder left since you left the party lol. I just want to wait to see how long will they really take to get back to me at this point.

I think they're playing this, are you serious about coming here? game. They asked me several times how seriously I was considering the school. Maybe it looks bad if they offer acceptances to tons of students who don't matriculate and this is their way of vetting your interest.

Whatever it is, it's foolish.

This.

Same here. I'm planning on withdrawing too. This waiting has no purpose. Shame on me for waiting this long.

I am a very last minute interview. Does anyone still have the link for the secondary application??? Thanks!
Do you know what the remaining interview dates are? Thanks! and Good luck!

They email you back your whole submitted secondary right after you submit it, just check your email.

That was quite a long time ago, my friend. Emails have been deleted. I completed my secondary way back in August. Figured this cycle was over with.

Congratulations to all the students who at least have acceptance to other places. For me, an international student with no II or acceptance from the 22 schools that I applied to, I think it is time to stop hopping that I might get an II from CMS and start preparing for the next cycle. I can not understand what was possibly wrong with my application 🙁 I have good grades, a descent MCAT score, acquired all the experiences that they require...:help::boom:

Hey all, withdrew a couple of days ago. Hope the spot goes to someone well-deserving.

Good luck.

Anyone hear about financial aid yet?

Also curious: as of right now, the only things we need to have done is complete FAFSA and the New Borrower Application, correct?

International students have a tough time; I understand that it can really suck.

You may want to contact the financial aid office about this. I know that for continuing students, there is a separate application for student aid through the school, but I don't remember exactly what I did when I first came here.

In my opinion, its tough for international students to get II unless you have killer stats or unique backgrounds. It is US schools after all so the number of international acceptances are lower and more competitive than U.S. students. You said you have "decent" MCAT score, I guess try to bring it up higher? Where are you applying from anyways if you don't mind me asking...anyways, best of luck to you!!!

You might want to try out the BMS program, I don't think many international applicants get accepted straight into CMS.

If CMS ever takes international students its usually from its BMS program. But thats just my observation, not sure if its completely true.

What phone number are you guys calling to speak directly with the admissions office?

You are completely right. My MCAT score is 30 (11PS, 7VR, 12BS). I know you are going to say that my verbal score is very low, but just imagine having to take the MCAT in your second language. It is not fun. My GPA is 3.9 and I have all the clinical, research, and leadership experiences. I am now studying to retake the MCAT in June and I hope to be able to raise my score. I was an international student when I started my undergrad in the US. Now I am a permanent resident, but when my status changed, I was already rejected by the majority of medical schools that I have applied to. Everyone says that I will have a good chance of getting into a med school in the next cycle, but honestly I am too scared, because this application cycle was a nightmare for me 🙁

I am actually considering applying to the BMS program, but the only thing that is making me hesitant is the extra tuition that I will have to pay by attending the BMS program. Honestly, I still do not know if my MCAT score or my visa status led me to this point. Since I do not have a visa problem now, I do not know if it is wise to still spend extra money on BMS and take the safe pathway, or to take a risk and only apply to MD programs again in hopes of saving some money? I need some advice on this matter.

You'll have a better chance, but you really need to get that verbal score up. It's especially problematic BECAUSE English is your second language; because most of our patients speak English, schools fear that international students won't be able to communicate with patients appropriately. I'm not saying that it's right, but unfortunately, that's how admissions committees think.

Honestly, I don't think its mainly because of your score. Its mainly because of the international student status. I was in a similar situation as you and once my status changed to permanent resident ( this past application cycle) with the same application, same essay-i got multiple acceptances. The reason most schools rarely accept international students is they want to produce physicians that will 100% serve in the U.S, which isn't a guarantee if you are an international student.

I would still assess your application and make sure you update it etc for the next application cycle. I wish you all the best. Its a difficult process, but you will get through it if you don't give up.

Are you just curious about the wait, or are you actually thinking about going here? For some people, this is their last hope to get in to med school. If you're not actually serious about going here, you should withdraw and open up a spot for someone else.

Thank you so much for your response. You are the first person that I have come to know, who has gone through the same process of applying both as an international student and a permanent resident. I feel much better now that I know that the change in visa status is going to make things better. The medical school's reasoning makes sense. Thank you again 🙂

Don't panic about that sort of thing. Someone who has multiple acceptances isn't taking away anyone's spot by not withdrawing. The school has seats to fill, and if people don't officially withdraw by the time classes start, the school will offer a spot to the next person down the waiting list until the seat is filled. There were people in this years M1 class that were offered a spot on the first day of classes, and had to rush to campus

Yea, I still think you need to boost that verbal up even if you are a permanent resident. Are you planning to stay and work in the US after? If yes, I suggest DO schools as back up for your next cycle. Having a safety net is good since it will take a lot of stress off during the cycle.

Yea that is true, but withdrawing early will help fellow applicants know earlier. This may seem unimportant to many, but it would relieve a lot of stress and worries for those waiting. I would totally appreciate it if the fortunate applicants with multiple acceptances can withdraw their applications sooner if they are certain that they will not attend CMS. This would lighten up the work load for admission committee and will most likely produce results earlier for those that are actually depending on the decision. I agree with @Bait&wait, if someone is for sure knowing that they are not attending CMS, then it would be a considerate action to withdraw earlier.

Withdrew my acceptance. Hope it goes to an SDNer!!

Does anyone know if CMS sends out mass rejections? if yes, approximately when?

Honestly was waiting to see if the finances might be better here. But I get where you are coming from! I've officially withdrawn 🙂 hope it helps someone else

I was waiting for the same reason. I question the act of withdrawing in order to open up a spot for someone logic. One must assume that there is a ranked list of students that are on the cusp of acceptance. If an accepted student does not intend on matriculating, yet holds onto an acceptance, this would only change the timing of waitlist movement, not whether or not it would occur. Yes, this is helpful for planning. However, it is also the applicant's right to gauge the financial aid offer first.

Just got invited to attend either the 4/21 or 4/28 interview. For those of you who have already interviewed, what was it like?

Pretty laid back. I interviewed with a fourth year and a faculty member. They were very kind and encouraging. I remember enjoying the day as a whole

VisceralFlame, I was reading last year's thread and it seems like you were interviewed on 2/20 and was on the alternate WL in June or something? How long after that were you able to get off the waitlist and what did you do in the meantime to try to get off of it?

Yeah. I was accepted off late-June, so it was awhile. In the mean time, I sent 3 update letters and 2 additional letters of recommendation. I don't know if they helped or not, but maybe they showed that I was interested
