2013-2014 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

MD and MD-MPH interview invite received yesterday 8/12 and confirmed for 9/23-24 today! Any other MD-MPH interviewees out there? 😀

Also, any suggestions on the best airport to fly into? Is traffic between West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami International pretty bad? I'll be interviewing at Miami one day and the Palm Beach regional campus the other day.

I am an MD-MPH fellow interviewee! I will probably end up flying into the Miami airport and then taking a bus maybe to Palm Beach? What are you thinking?

Awesome! What's your interview date? I'm actually flying into Fort Lauderdale (it was the cheapest option for me), but I sent an email requesting to stay with a student host in Miami, so I'll probably take the bus into Palm Beach. (I hope they can accommodate us MD-MPH interviewees for both nights!) Good luck with your interviews and hopefully meet you sometime!

Im scheduled for the October 21st and 22nd date. Let me know if you find a cheap bus or other way to get around the South Florida area. I am so incredibly excited about this program! Good Luck!

"Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Committee review. Applications that have been reviewed and scored by the Committee will be considered for interviews during the entire interview cycle (September - April)."

WHAT COULD THIS MEAN

I have the same status. Seems different from the other status that seemed like a hold status, but who knows what it means.

where are you guys even seeing any of these above mentioned status "messages"? My status page only shows a bunch of green check marks- there really isn't any message?

Just underneath the COMPLETE check mark line and above the "If you wish to apply to a different program" black text. It's a colored text message for me.

Interview Invite 🙂

I'm extremely excited to visit here. Did it take anyone else a while to receive a confirmation email with an actual date scheduled? How long does it usually take for them to schedule a date after ranking a few? Thanks, and good luck to all.

Edit: never mind, received the email a few hours later!

Congrats! Miami is an amazing school. What date are you two interviewing?

is Miller part of the main Miami campus? or are they separated?
also, are there beaches nearby campus?

for the essay on most meaningful experience in student organizations, i included this on my AMCAS. anyone else in a similar boat? did you just copy paste or leave it blank?

Just received an interview invite to both the MD and MD/MPH programs! Super excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

I submitted my secondary on the 17th of July. My status ever since has been

"Your Application to the UM Miller School of Medicine is complete and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee."

Absolutely not modification or updates. anybody else in the same boat?

I've had the green check by application complete since 7/24, but no sentence under it ever.

Hey guy simple question but how did yall exactly fill out the prereqs section. Based on the instructions, I see that I just need to put the date, institution, and grade in that format. Did yall also include the course numbers from your school (or name of the course) as well?

Thanks!

I'm still a little confused by this. So you just type in "(Year) (X University) (Grade)" for each prereq entry? It seems a little weird that multiple entries may be identical, especially in the "Other Science" category, which doesn't seem to be very meaningful information...

Could someone (preferably someone with an interview 😀 ) shed some light on this?

Yeah, that's exactly how it is. I thought it was a little weird too, but I guess it helps them look it up on our primary application without searching every semester for the prereq.

Hey buddy! See you there! I have the same interview dates. Last time I went to Miami I flew into Miami International and the traffic was fine. I was personally planning on renting a car to get from Miami to palm beach. Its like a 2 hour drive or so, if I remember correctly.

Wondering about student hosts though, I havent sent an email about this yet because it seems as if one would need two different student hosts for the two days..

shoot.. i'm not a reapplicant but i accidentally checked "no" in the reapplicant section on whether i had applied to Miami previously. anybody know how to unselect? i can't undo it :/

Seems like you selected the correct answer if I'm understanding your correctly?

If not, then just email admissions.

to me, i shouldn't have checked anything. by clicking no i think it's saying that yes i am a reapplicant but i just didn't apply to miami previously.

I did the same thing… No big deal, I don't think! I guess that section is not for us, but who cares. Just don't fill out any of the rest 🙂

does the AMCAs application specify whether or not we are reapplicants in case this confuses admissions?

Ummm I can't remember.. but as long as you stated that you aren't a reapp in both places, it should be fine! I don't think there is a big difference between saying "no" to the miami question and just leaving it blank! 🙂

you actually wrote in both text boxes that you aren't a reapplicant?

Hooray interview invite this morning! 😀

Hi guys, current MS1 here. I'll try to be around to answer some questions. Congrats to all of you with IIs!! Miami is truly such an amazing school, you're going to love it!!

What did you guys put for the race? Only allows you to check one. What's up with that.

I think you had to choose yes or no - I tried to leave it blank (because I'm not a re-applicant, either) and I got an error message when I tried to submit telling me it was a required field, so I clicked "no". Didn't think to put in one of the text boxes that I was a first-time applicant everywhere, but I don't think that should be an issue.

FINGERS CROSSED! Really want to go here, fingers toes legs and eyes are crossed that the adcom accepts this passionate and tenacious aspiring physician. 👍

Word!

II this morning! So excited, my first II, and Miami! Going 10/4.

For MD-MPH interviewees: how are you getting to JFK medical center for the regional interview? I looked and public transportation takes 2.5 hours, vs 45 minutes driving. Any shuttle options?

When I interviewed last year I just rented a car and drove. It's more like an hour and 20 minute drive. I know that lots of people in my group carpooled and a couple took the trirail. I would try and find a carpool on day 1 in Miami. If you can't, you can always take the metro to the airport and rent a car for a day. Shouldn't be too pricey. I'm an MS1 in the MDMPH program if anyone has any other questions.

Thanks for the advice! I'm really looking forward to seeing this school and program 🙂

Anyone else not have a status at all?

All I see is green checks, there is no message under there whatsoever?
