2013-2014 University of Texas - Houston Application Thread

Since there are so few OOS applicants, I guess I'll post. Transmitted late July, no ii. Had interviews at UTSW and UTMB so far, received iis for those the first days those went out. I don't think OOS has much to worry about right now.

OOS here also. Got an interview at UTHSCSA the first day they went out. Also silence from Houston outside of app received email.

Hi! My TMDSAS was mid-June but I actually added UT Houston later. My FI and I decided that we could potentially move to Houston, so I added it SUPER late. I got the scary do not contact us e-mail on 9/30.

Short answer: 9/30. 🙂 Good luck!! 😀

Also, for the people who've already interviewed: did y'all go to the Social at Baker St. Pub the night before?

So interesting information. I talked to a friend who works in the admissions department last week and they said only 3 interview days remain for UT Houston. Best of luck friends and hope some of you all snag those spots!!
 
Is there any advice for people who haven't received an interview yet?
They obviously don't want to receive pre-interview Letters of Interest..
 
Just got an interview invite! OOS MCAT 32+ cGPA 3.9+ sGPA 3.7+. And I can also confirm that there are only 3 interview dates left.

well looks like houston is almost done giving out interview invites...

I think I may have the last date to interview. November 22. My only choices were Nov 13, Nov 15, or Nov 22. Idk if everyone only gets 3 choices or not.

I interviewed here on the second date of the cycle, and when I went to pick my date only three dates were "available". It seems that they only give you three choices no matter how many interview dates are actually remaining. Most Texas schools finishing interviewing in early to mid January so I would think UT Houston would do the same.

I definitely agree. Plus, Houston started giving out interviews later than some Texas schools... I highly doubt they are finished with interviews in November.

They moved the social? Dumb.

Just FYI, the social doesn't matter at all as far as your chances go. It's just a way for you to get questions answered and to get to know the students a little. I really enjoyed talking to applicants as a student, and I found it really important when interviewing for residency. I'd encourage it whenever you can.
 
Hi! I have been a long-time lurker on SDN and finally made an account today (to procrastinate studying...)
anyway, I received an ii last wednesday, oct 30 and my 3 available dates were nov 15,22 or 24! I am super excited! My older brother went to UT Houston and is kind of a legend there...I honestly am surprised to have interviews this cycle. This is my 3rd interview and am wondering if anyone can share their experiences interviewing here. a classmate of mine just went for nov 1st and said the students were bashing other schools and they were "flexing" houston more than the school. I have always dreamt of this school so I would really love to hear some positive experiences people had!!!
 
I sure hope the current students weren't bashing other schools.

I'd ask your brother for feedback if he recently went there.

yeah i sure hope so too. this classmate of mine has a tendency to over-exaggerate but still..
and my bro graduated there in 2010 and is currently sailing through the british virgin islands (during his 3rd year of surgical residency)....must be nice!

You can read my experience at UTH last week on page 6. Let me emphasize this again though: This school is absolutely stunning. As for the students, I would have to say they were tied with the friendliest students I've met. Even with the largest class size in TX, they all seemed to get along great. More importantly, they were super friendly to all of us applicants. There were tons of them sitting around in the morning to answer everything. Then we had the tours and they knew what they were talking about and answered all of our questions. At lunch we had the same experience with students coming to sit with us. As I was leaving, a student got on the elevator with me and asked me if I had any questions and he even showed me the way out. The student body at UTH is top notch (among everything else).

Sorry, I misrepresented what I was trying to say. I also had only three interview date options, so I was going off of what a previous post said:

Apparently, however, this member was mistaken because my last interview date available was November 22 and someone already got one on the 24th. Looks like they should be going into January 👍 Best of luck to all of you!
 
When I interviewed on October 25, I was told that was about the halfway point for their interview season. So there is still PLENTY of time 🙂
 
The last interview date is Jan 10. This is what was tweeted by UTH @UTHAdmissions - twitter post on Nov 4 says: We are still sending out Interview invitations so be sure to check your e-mail! Our last interview day is January 10, 2014.
I recently interviewed here and got a lot of positive vibes about the school.
 
I'm praying for a pre-match... Despite the VERY small odds. We are less than a week away!
 
Just found this place so I decided to create an account to say that I got an interview invite last Friday! I'll be interviewing on the December 13th 😀

Accepted! Non-trad living in Houston. 3.9/35 Congrats everyone else accepted and good luck to those still waiting!
 
Now I'm nervous that Houston started to become pre-match heavy...... I'm just hoping there are a lot of the lucky few here on SDN.
