2014-2015 Brown University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does this mean they have reviewed applications and they don't plan on extending IIs anymore?
If they were waiting to review all applicants prior to WL movement then they wouldn't have started WL movement prior to completing all interviews. I think it has no bearing on whether or not more IIs will be sent out

Do people who applied to the Population Medicine program find out if they're in the program with their acceptance notification or is there a separate notification after the fact? If so when will this occur?

I believe that people accepted into the Population Medicine program will be accepted out of the pool of matriculants sometime well into first year, though I could be wrong.

I asked this when applying last summer, and received the following response: "Applicants who choose the MD-ScM Program are considered first for the Regular MD Program. Because enrollment to the MD-ScM Program is limited to 24 students, acceptance to this program occurs in March 2015. So applicants are offered admission to the MD-ScM after an initial admission to the Regular MD Program."

Also, any thoughts on if Brown is indeed accepting people off the wait list, if it's more likely that this will happen with new admissions decisions for recent interviewees (ie tomorrow) vs on other days?

I am interviewing at Brown in a couple weeks, and I was wondering if anyone who has interviewed here this cycle has any input from their experiences or any advice?

Relax. Be yourself especially at Brown where they handpick the class based on attributes and experiences. The whole admissions staff treats you like a family member from the moment you step into the medical education building, so I think you will really enjoy it. Do not sweat it!

You'll really like Ms. Fuller too-- she is an incredible director.

What is the curriculum at Brown like? Is it pass/fail?

AWESOME! ...but actually.

First two years - the preclinical and doctoring curriculum- are pass/fail.

Each IMS exam gives you your raw score breakdown for that exam (e.g. 18/20 anatomy, 47/50 histo, 29/30 sfm) so you always "know" where you stand in terms of your overall average for that course-- but all that maters, and all that goes on your transcript (I believe), is that you earn an overall passing grade "pass" or don't "fail."

Hope this helped! feel free to pm me if you have any more questions!

I feel like I should have lost hope a long time ago for getting an II, but I still haven't been rejected at this point. Any ideas on when they are finally going to send me notification.

@DCon, first of all, congratulations! If you have not yet interviewed, my best advice is to be positive and sincere. Show that you are enthusiastic about Brown. This is a GREAT school!

Finally got the pre-interview rejection email. Nice to finally have some closure!

Sorry, @negs89. Yes, even those I've been expecting for months still stung. Hope another school appreciates you more.

What happens March 5?

For those who interviewed in January and later, that's supposed to be when the last round of acceptances comes out before WL movement, if I remember correctly from the interview day. Can anyone else confirm?

I interviewed in February, and we were told March 6th was the last round of acceptances.

I just want to know already. The struggle is so real

oh boy, decisions are out! Waitlisted, but I'll take it

Congrats to all who received good (and potentially good) news! Wow. . .I may get to meet you in person!

Longtime lurker, first time poster! Accepted yesterday! Interviewed late January.

Does anyone if there's a FB group for accepted students? Also when is revisit weekend?

I've been looking for a FB group--the only one I find is from a few years back. Love to join one! I keep asking about Second Look, but have heard nothing yet. Congratulations, by the way!

I called the admissions office several weeks ago and they told me second look would be 4/24-4/25.

Does anyone know if there has historically been a FB group created for accepted students? Even a forum post on here? Looking to chat about housing, etc. Thanks!

Also, people keep saying that most students live on the east side (near ugrad campus), but has anyone lived on the side of where Alpert is? Any thoughts or input?

Thanks y'all! Hope to meet many of you at second look/this summer

I was emailed an invitation to join in early January by one of the medical students. I would just call the admissions office and ask for them to send out the invitation link for you to join as well!

Thank you, @Godisgood!! I will take your advice.

Hmm - try searching this on Facebook: Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University Class of 2019 - it's classified as a secret group so maybe that's why you're getting an error message? I'm really not sure how else to join without having an admin invite you first

I tried :/ ah well!

@Godisgood!! , if you think of it, perhaps you could inform the other folks in the group of our difficulty and ask them to post directions on sdn? Then the same questions might not keep arising? @JRDBRNBLU , I had the same issue, which our friend had already kindly addressed. The solution may lie with those who created the group--I am not a FB expert, so do not know.

@Godisgood!! @JRDBRNBLU @BengaliBrat Emailed admissions, they're gonna send us a facebook group invite once it's ready. They're having a current first year create the group 🙂
@wljay, I can't help noticing that bull that you have by the horns!!! Since you are already in, you don't need any more testimonials as to your leadership potential just now, but call on me when a witness is required! Thank you!! (And good job--sincerely!!!) :joyful:

Has anyone gotten off the wait list?

I'm speaking generally here and not just to Brown, but most waitlist movement will occur after April 30, the deadline to hold onto only one acceptance.

Can any current students comment on how generous the finaid packages were? I realize its variable. I'll take the hit and do 75k/year in loans if I have to but it would be great to get even 10-15k in grants/year.
