2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

Placed on post-interview hold for UT. If I read the letter correctly, am I on hold for future consideration for the waitlisting... as in on the waitlist for the waitlist?

I got the same result. I'm actually a bit surprised- I thought the interviews went perfectly.

Sorry to hear about the holds and rejections, guys 🙁

You mean only 3 students have been interviewed for CT? do you know how many interviews for CT they do every year...?

No, each interviewee has three interviews during their visit 🙂 I had one student and two faculty interviews.

Congrats Sunflower18 I am happy for you dear!...Still on the waiting game here....

Thanks so much!! Still waiting for post-interview CCLCM news -- hopefully that will come in the next few days! I hope you hear good news soon too 🙂

ummm no on my interview day, 6 of us were interviewing for CT. Lots of students have been interviewed for CT. But during the interview day, each student is interviewed three times. Also they do about 250 interviews a year and accept about 50 students for 32 spots. But they never over accept, so they accept exactly 32 and pull from the waitlist when someone declines.

Today, we sent out final reminders to complete the secondary application, which closes on Monday, December 15th.

As it turns out, there are still quite a few people who never received their initial invitation into the secondary application, due to spam filters. If you got a message saying that you need to complete your secondary application for CWRU, but never got the initial invite with your temporary password, please email me at [email protected] and I will help you get in the system as fast as possible.

Ahh, i guess they'll be movement for those that are pre-II after that deadline once the app pool is finalized.

How do I withdraw after being placed on hold post-interview?

Begin rant/

I was really surprised and disappointed to receive this post-interview hold. This was my first non-acceptance post-interview, so that stings, but it stings even more so because my faculty interview was probably the best interview I've done thus far (my interviewer and I actually hugged after I left her office). I wasn't particularly interested in Case initially, but I left interview day feeling like this could really be The One.

I am also disappointed because it appears that a "hold" at CWRU is essentially a waitlist for the waitlist - do they even reject any of their interviewees outright? It seems silly to keep hanging on for the opportunity to just be offered a spot on the waitlist. Not to mention the only way that I could have justified choosing Case over Ohio State (where I have been offered a full ride) is if Case had offered me a merit scholarship, the chances of which are probably nil were I to be accepted off the waitlist. Or, if I wanted to pay more money to go to a more prestigious school, I could just go to Michigan.

/End rant

Congrats to those of you who have been accepted, and good luck to those still in the waiting. This is a mysterious and unpredictable process, and a post-interview hold or rejection was bound to happen to me eventually. For whatever reason, Case just wasn't right for me, and I'll accept that the school is doing me a favor by making my final decision a little easier. Besides, why would I matriculate a school that is ambivalent about me when there are others out there who are certain I am a good fit? 🙂

Here's hoping that we all end up where we need to be, in the place that is right for us, come next year.

Got my acceptance Wednesday. First of the cycle. CWRU was the only undergrad to accept (off the waitlist too...) me when I was trying to move from my home country in Africa to the USA. Now UT at CWRU sent me my first acceptance of the cycle. There are so many things I could say about Case, but my favorite by far is how much they try to bring a mix of different people from all over the world!

Still waiting on an interview, complete October 3, any hope left?

@Kelilah, that's a great rant! It ends so philosophically! Sorry about the disappointment, but I think that you are right--money and fit conspired to put you in the place where you are meant to be. BTW, I share your situation and your good wishes for all accepted. Congratulations!!

Ended up with a hold after interviewing a couple weeks ago.

I liked the school, but I really didn't like Cleveland. Don't know if I could live there for 4 years.

@phunky, if you are a big city type, Cleveland may not be for you. On the other hand, appearances (and bad jokes by them as does not know from nice) may be deceptive. Good folks, lots of culture, less crime than most places, not too crowded, fine restaurants. . .there is much to be said for the Mistake by the Lake.

Plus walking through the skywalks of Cleveland clinic alone should be enough to convince one to go to school at case/CCLCM

Do you grow gnocchi...? haha 😛
We also have a (dwindling) forest of spaghetti trees--surprising, given how long the winters are. But the folks in Little Italy have their ways. . .

Did anyone on this thread hear from CCLCM? Judging from what I have read on past years' threads, the Chosen get the Phone Call of Glory, while Those Cast Into the Outer Darkness are informed by email or portal change. Although I did not expect to be one of the Sixteen Elite, I confess to having secretly maintained a tiny flicker of hope--after all, even really intelligent and discerning adcoms can err. . .they might have mistaken me for someone else, or projected virtues onto me! Hello, BengaliBrat! There's a collect phone call from Reality!

Anyway, wonderful to see so many CWRU acceptances here and to feel the joy with which they are received. Huzza all round!

I actually never asked when to expect to hear back from CT. Did they say an approximate timeframe post interview?

They said before the holidays.
*edit* and considering Hanukkah started today... That should mean any day now.

Well that just raised my anxiety level. I'm assuming they can only accept 32 initially? Then waitlist everyone else?
