2014-2015 Dartmouth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Bought a picture at a thrift store today solely to use the frame...and realized it is an old picture of the Baker Building library on the Dartmouth campus once I got it home! Truly truly did not look at the picture long enough to realize what it was before I bought it.

IS THIS A SIGN?!!??!!??!!?? (A neurotic pre-med can dream)

Had my interview here on 10/2... No word yet. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Edit: I ask because on their site it says if I was placed on the waitlist, they would notify me... It's been almost 4 months, shouldn't I have heard something?

I also interviewed on 10/2, nothing but silence.

Still hopeful, crossing my fingers.

any rejections from those who were completed at the end of september?

An admissions counselor informed me today that they are now reviewing September applications so we should hear back shortly

As in september interviewees or people that were complete in september? hopefully the former!

Pre-interview rejection yesterday morning. Good luck to the rest of you!

I've just been invited for an interview; I know this was probably stated somewhere in this thread, but forgive me, does anyone know a decent hotel (relatively good prices) to stay at? I know I saw the Marriott by someone, but are there any others? Thank you. 🙂

Does no one use AirBNB? I love it 🙂 plus you get to know the kind of people who live in the area!

Seriously the best way if not the only way I travel now.

I just got an interview invite here totally out of the blue. I was complete here 8/1. I just applied here because it's an awesome school, and I'd love to go...but never ever thought I'd get actually get an II here. Crazy happy though!!! Interview is scheduled for late February

Hi all,

I'm a Canadian applicant and my application was marked complete August 19th. I have yet to hear anything, no rejection or interview yet. Any ideas what this might mean?

Thanks

It means you're still in the running. Hang in there.

Thanks, I hope you're right!
I have to say, at times like this I wish I was born across the border. I'm sitting with a 3.76 cGPA, 3.90 sGPA and a 32 MCAT with 2 Honors degrees (completed together in 5 years) as well as a Master's degree and I've been rejected from 8 of the 10 schools I applied to (pre-interview) and waiting to hear back whether I can even get an interview from the last 2. It's all a little disheartening to say the least...

how was everybody's experience traveling to/interviewing at dartmouth? what airport/transportation combination would be best? do they offer student hosting too? I know it is late into the interview season but any advice would help! thank you!

I drove from/to Boston but is not necessary the best way to handle things. If you fly to Boston, you can catch the Dartmouth coach. You can also fly to Lebanon, NH although the number of flights is limited so you will have to figure out if anything works for you.

Yes, they do offer student hosting - after you confirm your interview they will send you a list of the hosts. During the interview day we heard a few comments that they generally like to host, so don't be shy to ask. Of course, be polite and considerate, etc - common sense rules.

Rejected today pre II. Application complete 9/15. Sent update and LOI. Best of luck to everyone that remains on the trail.

Potentially stupid question here. What is the address of the building where the interview will be held? I can't seem to find an exact address in the email. Is it 3 Rope Ferry Road? Thank you, thank you!

Correct. This is the building where you will check-in on the day of interview. Some of the interviews will not be in that building but everybody starts from there.

The confirmation e-mail I got after I chose a date to interview just said to check in first at the admissions office (3 Rope Ferry Road). I can also see a schedule for the day. That's all I got 🙂

Gracias! Saved me from bugging the admissions office yet again 🙂. Did anyone stay with someone from the hosting program? Any hotel recommendations that aren't super pricey? I am so needy haha, thanks all.

So, anyone else often misspell dartmouth as darthmouth and then you think of Darth Vader and how this whole admissions process is equatable to the dark side.

But on another note, I didn't even realize rejections were going out so yay I'm still in the running.

FYI, complete mid-Sep. No II... yet!

Despite admissions saying that your interview day group is discussed at the meeting 2 weeks post-interview, no one has heard back prior to 4-6 weeks correct?

I've got an interview here in a couple weeks. So how do most people get from Lebanon airport to the school? Is there a shuttle service or something like that?

They actually did not say that, at least to our group. What they said is that the meetings are every two weeks but are running somewhat behind, so applications are review one or two meetings further. That matches well with the 4-6 week typical wait.

Well my interview was on a Tuesday and then said although they were meeting in two days, the earliest they would bring any of us up from that say would be the following meeting...Agree that it's not likely, but they did make it seem like there was a thin possibility.

I interviewed at Dartmouth a month ago and just received a background check request from Certiphi. No school has notified me about any post-interview decision. What could this mean? I have not been convicted but have been charged in the past.

It could mean that you're on a waitlist you don't know about yet (some schools do not notify you quickly enough or not at all, you have to check yourself).

The other possibility is that you've been accepted someplace, but they haven't notified you yet (maybe snail mail?) but I don't think this one is likely because if you've been accepted, you'd know somehow already (unless it's a snail mail acceptance).

Dartmouth is a phone call or email school, so it wouldn't be Dartmouth. But, go ahead and check how the other schools you've applied to have historically sent out post-interview decisions. If there are any that used snail mail in previous years, it might be that they've already waitlisted you or accepted you, but you haven't gotten the actual response yet or check your mailing addresses.

Good luck, hopefully this is a pleasant surprise for you.

I've heard of many people who received this and were in fact accepted!! They have decision meetings on Thursday nights I believe, so timing could be right!

We were told (this past Thursday) that the earliest our apps may be discussed is at the next-next meeting (not that Thursday night, but in two weeks), and they admitted that while they are behind, it didn't sound like they didn't know what was up for all those who hadn't heard back after their interviews yet. They will begin establishing the waitlist soon as their decision meetings occur weekly beginning in March. They do say openly that they want to meet the candidate pool before they decide on acceptances, but because of this method, it will cut down to the wire!

Not exciting news in all... but we're getting closer!!

Accepted this morning!!!!!

This is absolutely surreal!!! My top choice school!!!

Wow...congratulations! 🙂 I just went on an interview on Thursday and they said they were meeting that evening. I'm glad the meeting went well for you! It is a spectacular school with just the most amazing surrondings.
