2014-2015 Dartmouth University Application Thread

Also...does anyone know approximately how many people have been accepted so far and how many they plan on accepting before they make the cut off for the waitlist (assuming the class size is around 85)?

At least 85 as of March 15 (per AAMC traffic rules). Joan told me there have been people rejecting their acceptances already though, and I'm sure this will speed up the closer we get to April 30. * fingers and toes crossed *

thanks for confirming. What do you mean by waitlist season?
You're welcome. Also, I meant the time during which people get accepted off the waitlist.i.e after post-interview decisions are finished and waitlist movement begins

Wait so you mean they've already accepted all 85 but those of us who haven't heard anything still have a chance because a lot of people are rejecting their acceptances? Also, thank you for your knowledge! 🙂

Of course they will have accepted more, but because of the rules, they have to have sent out AT LEAST 85 acceptances. I know that some of those have been refused since, and if they're still rolling decisions out, then the numbers will likely fluctuate significantly for the next few weeks..

And I'm gonna say, absolutely do we have a chance! (I haven't heard back either) but maybe it will be through the waitlist, which isn't ranked AFAIK.

Fingers crossed, warm fuzzies!!

THAT MAKES SENSE! Thank you! I assumed they would accept more but I didn't know they had already accepted all 85. Ahh I just wanna know, the suspense is killing me! Good luck to you and all!

I'll be applying next year, and Geisel is my #1 choice. However, I was wondering if anyone with Multiple MCATs had been admitted or interviewed this year?

Do they have a policy about that?

I had two9 MCAT scores and was accepted at Geisel this year. I don't know what their policy is outright if they average or just take the top score but I had a succesful experience!

I had 3 mcat scores (2 very bad 1 very very good!) and got an interview. Still no news though. Good luck!

I was accepted this year and took the MCAT three times.

I took the MCAT twice - got the same overall score both times, with individual section scores varying a little. Was accepted a couple week ago! From the other responses it seems like a really good thing about Geisel is that they really do look at the whole application, and won't penalize you for not getting amazing scores, or having to take the MCAT more than once. Everyone's human 🙂

I called on Wednesday. They consider all scores but give the most weight to the most recent score.

Hey y'all, I've sent a previous update to Geisel stating some academic accomplishments in my most rigorous courses, and progress at work. Should I send a full transcript stating my semester grades (a couple courses were not mentioned in the update)? These classes were a couple of A's and a couple of B's ie. not a 4.0. Is it advisable to still send my transcripts? I'm debating this because I am in an SMP and my recent Fall and Spring semesters have been mostly Graduate Level science courses. Not sure if sending these transcripts will make a difference or if they might be a negative since they aren't straight A's.

It may be too late now... As I'm sure you've read in the thread, the final committee meeting is tomorrow (the 9th), and decisions are supposed to go out by the 13th. Unfortunately, there may not be time for it to get there before they meet or it may be too late to impact your application.

Have any fellow accepted students received their financial aid award? I sent in all of my materials pretty early, but I'm kind of concerned that it's almost mid-April and we haven't heard back about FA...

Does anyone know/remember if the redesigned curriculum will be instituted this upcoming fall (for the class of 2019)? I feel like I've read a lot about how it will work in theory, but I have no idea if it's actually being implemented this year. Thanks.

Also, on a side note, I love Geisel, but does anyone else kind of wish the admissions office would send out more materials (i.e. a checklist, etc?) for accepted students? Besides receiving the Visiting Days invite, it's been radio silence (at least for me) since my acceptance email.

The curriculum update isn't officially being rolled out, but from what others have said on this thread, there are unofficial changes that they thought were going to be great for class of 2019.

I would LOVE to be in your position right now! I can only imagine how exciting it would be to be sitting on a Geisel acceptance 🙂 I think they're mostly working hard on all of us who haven't heard back since our interview, because of the 4/30 deadline.

Thanks for responding, @chachi19 ! I'm glad to hear that some changes will be rolled out. Sorry -I should have probably read the thread more thoroughly!
And I really wish you good luck in hearing back! It's such a pain to wait for a while : (. But hopefully you will get in and then you can post tons of emoticons and celebrate SDN-style! : D Are there any other schools that you have heard back from, that you are considering attending? (Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post on here)

Sent you a message 🙂

Just called, Joan said everyone will have heard by the 13th.

I'm hoping this is correct (because the suspense is killing me!). I just called and Dina told me that they don't actually have a deadline date before which one could expect to hear back. She said that replies roll out up till classes start. She said they also hadn't decided who would be on their waitlist yet.

I'm wondering if this is just the standard answer for anyone who asks. Lots of seemingly set-in-stone dates floating around this forum though.

replies aren't gonna roll out until august, that's the waitlist. those of us who haven't heard back from our interviews will hear by the end of april presumably

I'm under the impression that the April 13th date applied to the people who interviewed over the last few weeks (I interviewed mid-March and they told us we should hear back by April 13th). I don't know if they meant that date applied to everyone. Maybe they just meant the definite acceptances would go out by 4/13 and then they'll have to see how many people accept their offer past the April 30th deadline before they can taper off acceptances and to create the waitlist.

Whatever the case, the anticipation is killer! Good thing you can't wear out your email's refresh button.

Most waitlist movement reported on last year's Geisel thread happened in June. The last acceptance from the waitlist was before the middle of July. What do you mean by "replies aren't gonna roll out until august, that's the waitlist"?

I assume from the lack of recent decision reports on SDN for this year, that Geisel is waiting until they have decisions for everyone. When I interviewed I was told they were 2 weeks behind. They continued to be about 2 weeks behind with acceptance notifications until they stopped giving weekly updates in late March.
It appears that the last interview was 3/26, since there have been no mentions of interviews occurring after that week.
So, if all of these suppositions are accurate, the date Joan gave on April 1st, April 13th, makes sense, because it is two weeks after the last interview, and it immediately follows the last committee meeting before formulation of the waitlist (the date of the last meeting was first stated here on 3/3 as the second week of April and restated on 3/29 as April 9th).
We might even hear something today, since the last few decisions were released on Friday rather than Monday.
I just wanted to bolster the spirits of everyone who is still waiting with my (possibly optimistic) analysis of the decision timeline.

sorry, my phrasing was unclear; i was parroting the phrasing of the poster above me. we're in agreement. what i meant was that those of us who have not heard back yet from our interview should hear soon as to whether we've been accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. it's those on the waitlist that could potentially not hear til the summer

We were told a month like you, from my early Feb interview, but I don't think most of us have heard back yet 🙂

... and then immediately checking this forum too 🙂
Monday seems to be a strong possibility for notifications as well.
It could be that acceptances for only the last few interview days were released today and that pre-waitlist acceptances will be released tomorrow.
They could also still be interviewing. The final interview last year was Tuesday 4/15.
Final decisions (judged by waitlist notifications) were sent on Friday 4/18 and Monday 4/21.
So, we could be waiting another weekend, a week, who knows *shrug*.

Just to clear up any confusion, their last interview date was Thursday 4/2 (confirmed at my interview in late March), the admissions committee meeting for the last two weeks of interviews happened yesterday on 4/9, and we were told that the earliest you may hear back from them is today 4/10, but that acceptances would likely pour over into early next week. At this time they should have everyone interviewed ranked so if you're ranked highly, you'll probably get positive news soon; otherwise you'll most likely be waitlisted and may not hear back until people start dropping their acceptances.

Do you guys think they'll be sending any decisions over the weekend?
