2014-2015 George Washington University Application Thread

Last year I believe there were 339 accepted. The overall acceptance rate hovers around 3%.
I think you forgot the 0-- the acceptance rate is around 30% not 3%! That would suck.

they were talking about total amcas submitted versus acceptances, not acceptance versus interviews.

I was referring to total acceptance. % accepted/%interviewed is indeed 30%

Of course, that's assuming the numbers stay the same as last year, and there's probably some variation.

Complete early August, on hold today. Time for an update. 🙂

Is there anybody else here interviewing on Tuesday (Sept 16th)? Tonight I will be heading out to the airport and flying out early in the morning! I can't wait!

I am interviewing! Very excited as well. I'm driving down tomorrow afternoon from NYC. I'm so excited to learn more about the school because it seems that GW is brimming with opportunities for students. See you on Tuesday! Safe travels

Where are you staying? As a DC native I've got some tips on the parking/metro ride situation in Foggy Bottom 🙂

I've gotten the hotel situation covered and I'm being dropped off bright an early in the morning. How's the traffic situation? Coming from NYC I always allow lots of time to travel, but I don't know what DC commuter traffic is like

Foggy Bottom is right by K Street, our financial center. To be on the safe side I'd plan for a lot of traffic.

NYC and DC are about equally badly congested, but if I had to pick the worst city for traffic it would be DC. Mind you, I've been to NYC (drove there, actually, and yes - through devilish midtown too), and I paid close attention to how much it sucked owning a car in the city. Best of luck to you! Plan to have lots of spare time!

You're very kind. Thanks for the advice and best of luck to you as well!

Would it be in my best interest to send an LOI/update if you've been on hold for a month? GW is one of my top choices

Congrats!! Did they e-mail you or did you have to check your status?
Email!
My portal right now just says that there has been email correspondence and says nothing about an interview being offered. It's all in the email.
Thank you! Good luck 🙂

II this morning!! Secondary received on 6/28. Amcas completed on 7/18. Secondary submitted on 8/5. Never on hold. II on 9/16 -- received by email. Interview on 11/13 (GW picks the date for you) OOS but I don’t think that matters since it is a private school. LizzyM of 70.

I REALLY appreciate the thoroughness of your post, thank you 😀

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the application status page? I'm getting an error saying "We can't locate your record."

Does anyone know if GW sends out rejections alongside IIs, or do they just hold on to your app until the end of interview season? I'm not on hold (checked my status online) yet I submitted late July and still haven't heard anything yet ...

Is George Washington receptive to 'in the area' e-mails?

Anyone here applying to both GW and Georgetown? I was wondering if anyone had any experience with sending an "in area" update. I will be in the city for an interview at Georgetown and would love to save some money and not have to fly to DC twice!

I'm wondering about this too...

Submitted my secondary today... anyone know if they are one of the "equal chances regardless of timing" schools? Or late applications are straight to the Hold file?

How likely are people to be offered II if they are placed on hold? I was placed on hold today and am a little disappointed. I was complete early to mid August

Meh on hold...is there a way to check when they put you on hold? I hadn't checked my status in a while and I'm not sure when it happened (probably the end of August?)...Anyway on hold, and complete 7/25.

Hi everybody,

I interviewed here last week and thought I would give you an idea of what to expect (I always liked these posts so I thought I would do the same for everybody else). Please forgive odd grammar or spelling. I am at work and writing bits and pieces in between reaction steps.

The interview day began at 9:15 am. I took the metro to GW and arrived quite early but did not check in until 9:00am. Most people arrived about this time. There were 16 of us interviewing that day. At Around 9:15, they took the group of us to a small-ish room in the library. First, we all went around the table and introduced ourselves. I was really surprised to see that only one person was still working on a Bachelor's degree. Most were done with school or working on PhD or Master's degrees. People were there from all over the country. Everybody was very nice and we had quite a bit of time to talk to each other in between presentations.

We had people come in and talk about financial aid, student opportunities, and student life. After the presentations, we had a tour of the school, followed by lunch. During lunch, current medical students came in to talk to us. They were all pretty awesome and easy/fun to talk to. They all seemed very happy to be there.

After lunch, interviews started. I believe most people had the student interview first, followed by the faculty interview. The interviews were very relaxed and conversational. We talked very little about my "accomplishments" and they seemed more interested in getting to know me as a person. I heard a rumor while I was there that GW tries to match up interviewers and interviewees with common interests and backgrounds but I am not sure if this is true. I had a ton in common with both of my interviewers regardless. We were free to leave once we were done with both of our interviews. I was done by one (both of my interviews were immediately after lunch) but I believe some people had interviews as late as 3:00pm. Overall, it was a nice, stress-free day.

So helpful! Thank you!
