2014-2015 Georgetown University Application Thread

I agree that the interview at Georgetown was somewhat unpleasant. My interviewers asked several very racist questions that made me pretty uncomfortable. They may be unintentional or part of the stress-interview procedure, but the conversation did reflect negatively on the school's commitment to diversity. I was surprised that I still got waitlisted after that horrific interview...

I had a similar experience with my interviewer. The tone of the interviewer addressing the sociocultural issues brought up was one that I did not feel comfortable with. The interviewer was very condescending and at times wildly inappropriate when talking about certain issues. I'll be lucky if I am waitlisted after what I, too, thought was a horrific interview.

Sorry to hear that. Can you elaborate?

Accepted, OOS. Interviewed end of Oct. Withdrawing offer tho. Gluck to GU class of 2019.
Congrats on your acceptances! Do you mind sharing what date you interviewed?

I believe 10/28. Not too sure, sometime before halloween tho

My interview here was one of my least stressful interviews so far. I guess as far as these schools go, it really just depends on your interviewer. My favorite part of the day by far was the talk by Donna Sullivan. She's an incredible speaker.

This is a reach for me, stats-wise (I was surprised when I got the interview), but I know I'm a great fit for this school. I'm really hoping that I'm at least wait-listed and not outright rejected here. I think I could write a pretty great letter of interest. 🙂

I'm sure you will, especially given your positive attitude! I really am sorry that people had negative interview day experiences, but it's nice to see some positivity on this thread! I understand anyone that had a negative experience not wanting to attend here, but it's nice to see that some people want to go, otherwise we all wasted a lot of time, money, and effort!

I am somewhat surprised that there seem to have been so many bad interviews. Not because they don't happen, but because it is an awful thing to experience. We invest so much time, hope, and money into this process that I can definitely appreciate the responses to a bad interviewer. Remember .... the school does ask for your feedback post interview and I would suggest that everyone fills out the form. If the school is not made aware of the issue(s) then they cannot change (conversely if they are aware and don't care then .... not sure about that).
Still - good luck to everyone pre- and post-interview. For those still about to interview, or waiting for an II... keep positive (which is so fricken hard I know... I have applied to 23 schools and got 2 interviews so I am both happy and sad haha). My interview was phenomenal and was purely luck of the draw with my interviewer.

Accepted two days ago!! 🙂🙂🙂Interviewed 10/21!!
Do any accepted applicants know if they have a facebook page or any other forums for acceptees?
Congratulations 🙂 Did you receive a phone call or a status update?

would it be totally ridiculous to add georgetown this late? their deadline is next week. Lizzy 72.

I always hear that the speed with which you turn in an application reflects your interest in that school. Georgetown may (or may not) think you have no real desire to attend their school. If you don't mind the application fee, however, then it's always worth a shot.

I have the same problem! Is December really too late for a secondary, especially since the school is rolling admissions?

Affirmatively no. Whether it's worth it to apply or not is really a question that only you can answer. A few points/questions for consideration:
-can you spare the secondary and possible interview costs?
-do you have the time to craft a thoughtful and well-written essay? This ad com really wants to have a clear 'Why Georgetown?' answer from each of its applicants.
-are you willing to write updates and possibly a letter of interest come Feb/March?
-have you received an acceptance from another school? If so, would you go to Georgetown if ultimately admitted?
-can you afford Georgetown's tuition and the living costs of DC if admitted?
-Georgetown will probably receive ~12k applications this year for ~200 seats

Even though some of the above points/questions seem daunting, there is no intent to dissuade you from applying. These were questions that I even made myself answer/consider before applying.

Best of luck with whatever you choice you decide.

Being on the wait list is starting to take its toll on me 🙁 Georgetown is my absolute first choice dream school. Wish I could just know right now if I'm going to be accepted down the road!

Me too 🙁 It would be nice to start planning since I have kids and stuff.

FYI at my interview all the medical students I spoke to were accepted off the waitlist (likely just a coincidence, but goes to show that a waitlist status is definitely NOT a rejection). I interviewed 10/21 and received waitlist notification one week ago. Writing letter of interest, although I have been accepted other places and have my top choice interview still to come, so I don't want to say 100% that I will go to GU if I am accepted in the letter (as was suggested at the interview). Not ready to cut any ties though, and there were several things I liked about the curriculum (scholar project and social justice track for example), but the cost of living in D.C is also a pretty substantial 'con' for me.
We shall see how it all shakes out.

That's encouraging to read. I've made it quite clear in both of my letters of interest so far and my secondary app essay that GU is my top choice and explained multiple reasons why...just have to rest knowing that I've done all I can do. Trusting it will work out for the best in the end. Good luck at your interview for your top choice!

Anybody know how receptive GU is to letters of interest or intent prior to being sent a decision?
I interviewed there in November and can't remember if it was ever specified.

Anyone else interview before November and still not hear anything yet? I interviewed on 10/28 and nothing

Is there a specific format we need to follow for the letter of intent?

I have withdrawn my application for consideration post interview. I was accepted into my first choice medical school. I interviewed 11/18 and was incredibly impressed with the staff and campus at Georgetown. I am glad that I have not yet heard back from them regarding my application, for if (a big IF of course) I were accepted I am not sure I would have been able to turn them down. I wish everyone good luck for favorable news (wherever you are applying) and happy holidays.

I'm in the same boat - interview 10/28 and no response. I emailed when people from our day started hearing back, and they responded briefly saying that decisions are sent out as they are made. Hopefully they tell us soon though.

Same boat.

Hey all!

I just received an interview invite for January. However, I also have acceptances to Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Loyola, and Rosalind Franklin.
My wife is from the midwest (Wisconsin), but says she wouldn't mind looking into DC. Aside from finances (COA) and negative remarks about the staff, would it be worth it for me to interview here? Is this school worth it, considering what I already have?

Thanks!

Why not?

The luxury of an additional option would make it personally worth the cost and effort of attending this interview. Unless factors such as the COA, location, or any other personal matter make this particular school untenable NOW, I'd wait for that consideration if and when you have a choice.

^^^just my two cents. I follow the notion that flexibility in school selection provides you an opportunity to make the BEST choice.

I interviewed early Dec, and I was just wondering when y'all think I could expect to hear back by? I know its a wide range but im freaking out here..

It seems that they were responding to early November interviewees just before the break so I'd hold tight for at least another few weeks. Just a guess.

Anyone from 10/30 hear back? The wait is excruciating!

I'm in the same boat! Wondering if they call or email with updates?

Did anyone actually go to the hospital they wouldn't take us on a tour of on the interview day? If so, what was it like? It seemed really off and suspect that they wouldn't give us a tour of one of the main hospitals.

I've only gone on a tour of one hospital so far out of all interviews, so I think it's pretty standard to not go through the hospital during interview day and not necessarily something to be suspicious of. I do remember them saying that there's a hospital tour on second look day! I also know the G-town hospital- it's not the most cutting edge hospital, but there definitely isn't anything wrong with it? I'm not really sure what criteria you're looking for. It's clean and, like most hospitals, some parts are older and some parts are brand new.

We walked through one of the hospitals on my tour. Very quick though, in one door and out another.

Has there been any information about a second look day yet?

To all accepted applicants - did you receive any information about background checks from Certiphi/AMCAS? I just got an email from Dean Houle reminding me to start my background check process, but I did not receive the email she refers to from Certiphi/AMCAS with information on how to do this.
