For those that interviewed already, were the interviewers open for questions or was the Q&A session the main opportunity for answers?
For those of you who interviewed, how relaxed is the interview? do i need to brush up on current health topics/issues or is it more conversational?
They were very open for questions. It was a significant part of each interview so I was glad I had a bunch prepared. For those that interviewed already, were the interviewers open for questions or was the Q&A session the main opportunity for answers?
I got accepted here yesterday (!) and I'm trying to figure out how to respond via the Hofstra portal. Having trouble because no idea what my username is. Can anyone help?

I think it varies pretty wildly on who your interviewers are. I had one that couldn't have been more relaxed and conversational, the other much more serious and application-based. Brush up on your application and if you mentioned you keep up with health topics or are interested in various health-related orgs, then I would recommend brushing up on it. Overall, don't fret and you'll do excellent! For those of you who interviewed, how relaxed is the interview? do i need to brush up on current health topics/issues or is it more conversational?
Second year student here. There is a tonne of student involvement. We have a lot of interest groups, like emergency medicine, obgyn, pediatrics etc. We also have fun groups like a food club, a comedy club, bhangra, art. These are all student run organizations that can get funding from the school. Can any current students comment on student involvement? Are there clubs, volunteer opportunities, intramurals, etc.?

We also have intramural sports that are organized through the undergrad campus, there is soccer, basketball, football.
As for volunteer opportunities, we have a community service committee that organizes volunteer opportunities that anyone in the school can be a part of. This is also run by a student.
Giving up on Hofstra.. Folks way after me have heard already and I'd rather not expect anything anyway.
The admissions rep said that they'll release decisions gradually. She never gave a firm time frame, but said we'll know our position by March 15th. That's all that was said to my group about this matter. The rest of the info I'm learning here, on SDN. At any rate, I'd rather not anticipate anything. Just move onto the next interview.🙄 seriously? it's barely been a month since you interviewed. did you not listen to anything the dean actually said?
based on last year's thread: some people were accepted a week after they interviewed and others from the same date range were accepted 2 months after they interviewed. however, it does appear that all waitlist/post interview rejections are released in March at the same time. since you interviewed a little more than a month ago it is highly possible that the committee has not met yet to discuss your file. i'm not saying for sure that is the case, but I think it's premature at this point to rule yourself out just because a couple of people happened to have quick turnarounds. just my 2 cents
I spoke to admissions recently as other people from my day had been accepted and I hadn't. I didn't get a straight answer, but doubt that my committee hasn't met yet.
I'm under the impression that they put you on a post interview hold and re-evaluate you at future committee meetings and release the final decision of the limbo people in march as @kthxbai stated.
I'm doing the same. Considering this as W/R and moving on and concentrating on my future II's.
What exactly did they say to you? I'm in the same boat but I don't want to call and annoy them so I'm curious what their response was.
Essentially reiterated what they said at the interview, i.e. that it depends when the committee meets, that timing means nothing, etc. Personally, I still think it is unlikely that the people that interviewed months ago haven't been looked at in a committee and it gets more unlikely as time goes on. They reiterated the time of now through early next year sometime. Given that no one here has heard anything but a yes post interview, I honestly think they might just delay talking about some people or just don't notify even if there is an internal decision. This is all fine. I just wish the process were more transparent. I remember at my interview date they wouldn't give people last years stats of interviews/acceptances etc. So it goes.
TLDR: They just said we'd hear between now and early next year. They basically just avoided my question. As is their right I suppose.
/shrug.
At my interview they told us they accept roughly 3/4 people for every 1 spot and that it ended up being something around 30% of the number who interviewed (something like that, I believe?). They did also give us the spiel about it all depending but I actually have heard that from several other schools as well and am not surprised. Obviously there are going to be some students in the "we must accept these kids" pile but I imagine the rest of us all fall somewhere in between that and the reject pile so it may just take a few extra weeks to hear back. This actually makes me feel a little better so thanks for sharing what they told you!
Does anyone know if Hofstra offers a second look opportunity in the Spring?
Yep March 28th-29th, including an Islander game. They do in march!
Although my interview day went really well, it doesn't exactly look like Hofstra is the cards for me. Anyway, no worries. I got what I wanted. Best of luck to all of you still waiting for an acceptance somewhere! Hang tight and it'll all work out.
Oh, and I'm plenty grateful, but Hofstra is so much closer to home. Either way, I'm happy as is, but I just loved Hofstra!Calm down, you got in somewhere. 😛
Also interviewed 12/5. Hopefully, we'll get some great Christmas news!Anyone who interviewed 12/5 hear back yet???
Woke up to a great early Christmas present this morning! Interviewed 11/14.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
