2014-2015 Indiana University Application Thread

Has anyone heard any good news concerning the regular MD program?

Someone told us who asked. 7 chosen and 7 to be chosen 14 total rural health

I interviewed wayyyy back in the beginning of October, one of my first interviews. OOS. Pretty strange how their system is set up but can't be too mad!

Received a campus preference email this morning!! I haven't received the official acceptance letter in the mail yet. Has anyone else received an acceptance packet recently?

"When did you interview?"

Interviewed Nov 12. Still waiting for the package in the mail. Just saw the status change to accepted in the portal today.

Received the campus selection email, set up my UID, but can't seem to log in and actually submit my preferences. (I can still log in with my AMCAS info, but that doesn't offer the campus selection.) Any insight?

OOS, so I don't know when the packet will arrive. I'm almost afraid to believe it till I have it in my hands. 🙂

I got an email today saying my application is incomplete and to check the Applicant Portal. Checked the portal and I have green checks on everything except "Personal Evaluation". What is a personal evaluation? Apparently I have 30 days after my interview (Feb 11) to submit. Please help!

The applicant portal takes 5 days to update info. So you won't be able to actually log in and submit your preferences until the 25th.

Do they also hand out rejections with these acceptances? Interviewed back on 11/5 and as of now I'm going on 4+ months with nothing. Idk. Maybe something will come tomorrow but this is getting really drawn out... Worrying I got rejected and I won't hear until June

Thanks! Guess I'll be sitting on my hands till then. 😛

I can no longer see the checklist, but my guess would be letters of rec. I'd suggest a call on Monday to check, so you don't burn through your 30 days wondering.

Received my letter in the mail today!!

The email said that the orientation and white coat ceremony were on August 13-14 but the physical acceptance letter said August 6-7, 2015. Did anyone else notice this?

Believe it!! Congratulations!!

Does anyone know about how many spots are still open to be filled in the next few months?

Facebook page is up to 199. Take that for what you will, but given projected class size there should still be a ton of acceptances to go out. Especially considering the fact that previous classes have had 50-100 more people as a part of the Facebook group than the number ultimately enrolled.

You need a letter written by someone who isn't a professor. This is your personal letter. Whatever letter you provided didn't meet the requirements. You'll be fine. Deep breath. Submit your new letter to Amcas ASAP

Packet arrived! 🙂 A funny thing I noticed: The checklist directs us to send correspondence to the Admissions Office at 1120 South Drive, but the envelope provided lists 1130 West Michigan Street.

I received the ranking e-mail on 2/20 and I interviewed on 1/7. I haven't received my packet though... I'm an out of state student though, so I would imagine it would take some time...

I'm assuming the letter of acceptance, academic record & legal disclosure, and second chance campus assignment lottery form are all in there? I've done the ranking and the background check through AMCAS. I think aside from that I'm pretty much set. Just waiting it out now...

Congrats everybody!

For OOS, is there anyway to qualify for in-state tuition after living in Indiana for a year? I have ties to the state, and will likely practice there eventually. I live in an adjacent state

I will preface by saying I am no expert and would highly suggest you talk to someone else (maybe Jose Espada in financial aid). However, I know with the exception of few states (I think Ohio is one) most states do not allow this. You have to live and work in most states for a year before establishing residency and on top of that you have to prove you weren't moving there primarily for higher education, which you would not be able to do if you enroll in medical school.

Edit: improper use of "their" like a fool

My packet was pretty slim, just the letter, an addressed return envelope, and an information checklist. You do the campus selection on the portal once you create an IU account. Mine took a few days to get into the system, but that might be because I created it on a Friday. I assume the second chance lottery won't occur till after the initial round of assignments are sent out in April.

What determines who gets a second look invitation?

The email reads:

"Good afternoon everyone,

On Friday, April 10, 2015, Indiana University School of Medicine will host its annual Second Look program. This program is by invitation only and you have been selected to participate. Please check your email and spam accounts to look for your invitation which was emailed 2/24/15. The first 40 to register will have a spot and the remaining will be placed on an alternate and notified if a space becomes available. You may bring upto one guest, but do not need to register them.

Congratulations on your acceptance and again, check your email for the invitation only event!"

So, to answer your question. I have no idea. The actual invite came in a separate email a little earlier.
