2014-2015 Loma Linda University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sooooo, if no calls went out this week (the third week), presumably due to the match, then when does the next batch of calls go out? Any thoughts?

Just received my pre-II rejection in the mail.

So no calls are going out in march? This is surprising. Please tell if you hear something.

LLU is honestly the worst.

Been complete since July.
Get several e-mails that led me on each time to believe they had to do with admissions. They weren't.
And when I do get rejected without a peep in the last 8 months, it comes via snail mail. noice.

So looks like my mail was simply a bit slower than others. Rejection, post interview. Not completely surprised. GL to those still waiting on decisions.

Sorry to hear. It sounded like you really wanted this one!

Lol, yeah, but its a relief to be done with their process. At the end of the day they are what I thought they were before I applied (which is a long shot for me with my MCAT). I have mixed feelings, but I will be a doctor anyway.

I thought that they would probably reject me since I am A) Out of School for the most part and have a below 30 MCAT; B) OOS; and C) Not attending an admissions officers/faculties home church, nor do I have any connections to one.
Meh... I didn't even get an interview, and that's speaking as someone who 1) is in-school (doctorate) and a ≥30 MCAT; B) in-state; and C) member of a faculty home church, with connections to many more.

Only to their feeder schools (undergrad) do they offer guaranteed interviews, and that's one or two days a year when the admissions director travels the country. Even being a student in the same university, let alone married to somebody in the MD program, doesn't mean they'll grant me an interview... 🙁

Dude, you just took me from mixed feelings to downright bad. I'm sorry man. You must feel even more like this guy than I do.

In a way I feel like Loma Linda Ol' yellered me. I sent them a LOI/plea email at the end of Febuary, so they knew how I felt. I am glad they didn't artifically drag this out (any more).

POST-interview rejection letter too. Definitely a huge shot to the heart as I really thought I had a chance being SDA and getting into other schools.

Thanks you guys for helping me out throughout the whole process. It has definitely been a wild ride.

You got the five day thing for II also right? I think that is officially not a good thing.

You're probably familiar with the fact that the LLUSM Adcom meets the 3rd thursday of every month. In March, this falls during match week. Which is why they didn't have an Adcom committee meeting this month. It happened last year as well.

But...I do know that they have 3 more adcoms planned - april, may, and june.

Be at peace.

some other random person not on this thread said:
something something something to make Wonderdog say "oops"
Wait, when did I say that?

Wonderdog, you are officially my favorite person of the day for sharing this information with us.

Yeah, I don't understand why it would necessarily be a bad thing--although, if you do get the five days, you're probably likely to be interviewing later in the season, which does make it a less than ideal interview situation, completely irrespective of the 'five days'...

checked my llu portal. got waitlisted. interviewed 2/3
Where exactly does it say that? Under "Application menu" or after the link for "Application status?" Can't find any information with mine. Probably not a good sign. Interviewed early April.

So if you log into your portal and just see the normal screen that said they received your letters of rec, then you're still just waiting to hear. However, if you've been placed on the alternate list it will appear above the letter bit and will say in green lettering "you have been placed on the alternate list". Below will be a couple paragraphs explaining that if chosen you will need to submit transcripts, etc.
At least, I just checked my portal and that's what I found.

Got a letter today with an offer for the biomed program. I'm stunned; I was expecting a simple rejection.

What is the biomed program, if you don't mind me asking?
It's a Master's program for people who applied to LLU with good potential but not the academic strength for a full-on acceptance. From what I've gathered, those who complete the program (a year of MS1 classes) successfully and show solid academic performance are strongly considered for the following year's class.

It's a chance for someone to prove themselves they have the academic tenacity to make it in med school.

So I have attended Loma Linda's Open Houses from 2012 to 2014, so I have seen a lot of what LLU is like. They said that a lot of the people they send secondaries to don't send them back because that is when they find out about what the school is really like. They are heavily missions-minded; they have medical missions during the summer and winter breaks for students to go on. They have huge missions globe dedicated to alumni who went on medical missions. They also have outreach programs to the community that their students participate in. Hopefully if you applying here, you have some of those experiences. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have. I absolutely love this school. :soexcited:

I am so happy to read this post. I am hoping to apply to this school for 2015-2016, I am Christian (protestant) but not SDA, although my lifestyle is similar to SDA. I have done different medical mission trips (especially in Africa) and I am heavily involved in organizing those medical mission trips under my church. Missions are where my heart is and I can't see my self not applying to this school. However, my concern is I have low MCAT score and high GPA. It is mostly because of verbal as English is my third language. What is your suggestion about people who get accepted with low MCAT & also I am not instate?
Thank you!

LLU is a private school, so they do not differentiate in-state versus out-of-state.

Send me a PM about the MCAT score/GPA dilemma, for privacy reasons. I also had a GPA that was better than my MCAT, and I still got in, so it really depends on how low your MCAT is and how good your GPA is. Keep in mind that the LLU average for MCAT is 30, with an average of 10 on each section. LLU looks at applications fairly holistically, and they send secondaries to everyone. The secondary questions are very LLU-focused (questions about your faith and church involvement), so that should help you out since it looks like you have a lot of involvement in church activities and missions. The mission trips will definitely help you at LLU, though, and don't be surprised if you get a lot of questions about it on your interviews.

Hullo, first post.. I've been following this thread for a while now and I GOTTA ASK!!! Anyone hear anything last night/today?

Has anyone heard anything lately from the ADCOM? I know graduation was last weekend and they're probably catching up, but it would be really nice to hear something from them.

1st question: Hey people! Congrats to all that have been accepted, good luck to all on the waiting list, and keep pushing for all of those who did not get accepted this cycle. I was wondering if there was a Facebook page for the LLUSM class of 2019 or if I should go ahead and create one. That way people can discuss living situations and things of that sort. They have pages for the classes of 2018, 2017, and etc. Let me know if I should go ahead and create and post a link or if there is already a link going around. Thanks people

2nd question: Anyone who has graduated from LLU undergrad or any of the current medical students (or even incoming students with opinions), would you recommend living on campus or off in an apartment?

if you've been offered Biomed - take it. great program!
