2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't have a letter from my undergrad department (non-trad) and I don't have a non-science faculty letter either. I emailed them and asked them for advice on how to proceed so until then I'll hold off on submitting the secondary.

ooh keep me updated about the non science one too. I don't have that either

Just making sure I didn't mess this up already but you guys just input the information about yourself, then alumni/faculty, then letters of rec, then payment, right? Makes me antsy not to get a confirmation page or e-mail

That's all I had in mine. Yeah, I wish we got a confirmation of some kind.

yup.

If letters are being submitted through AMCAS will it automatically have our AAMC ID on it? Otherwise I'm not sure what NYMC means when they say to request your AAMC ID to be on your letters...

Yep, same here. I emailed them yesterday about it.

Soo this was probably stupid of me, but I marked an LOR from a professor in the integrative biology department as in my major when I'm a molecular bio major. In my defense, the class he taught was for my major. I'm probably going to get an email about this later, right?

I'm not even verified yet and I received a secondary today, I'm pretty sure it is random. I'm glad to know that there are no essays! Applying to a million schools so the less essays the better haha!

Yea but it's 120 bucks 🙁((

Mine has said that for like a week and a half and when I called she was like we got it so your fine. If the status isnt changed by August, I am going to call again. Let me know what you hear

Has anyone had any difficulties applying FAP to their secondary? I e-mailed them on Friday, but haven't heard anything back.

Check the status website, mine was updated today saying they received the FAP

I feel stupid... I marked my letter from my physics professor as in my major because it was a course required for my major, but I'm not a physics major

I just received the secondary (ready for review 6/27, waiting on verification). I graduated in June 2012 and I have one biology LOR and one major LOR (non-science), but I don't have the two required science LORs. I worked in a research lab (not for credit or transcript notation) after graduation so I have a letter of recommendation from my PI. Do you think I'll be able substitute one of the required science LORs for a PI letter?

I know it says "If you graduated prior to 2012 (this does not include 2012), and are unable to obtain letters of evaluation from your undergraduate or graduate school, we will accept other academically oriented letters. However, keep in mind that providing us with the requested letters will strengthen your application." I graduated in 2012 so this doesn't apply to my situation.

It's > 5pm but I'm thinking I'll call the admissions office and ask anyways. I would love to apply to this school if possible.

Hey I had a similar problem, did you get a response out of them?

To all who are wondering, I emailed the school about non-sci letter June 23 - this was the response:

"... in response to not having a non-science letter a deal breaker the answer is no. The committee would like to see a balance between the letters but if you are having trouble obtaining such letter the coordinator will ask you for a third science letter in lieu of the non-science."

Cheers!

Awesomeeeeeeeee, thanks for letting us know!

Had same status today changed to under review. Soon for you too I hope!
I actually ended up calling them and sorting it out. It turned out to be a goof on my end.. I only marked 4 of my 5 letters to be sent to them on AMCAS, but on the secondary I listed all 5. Simple fix and now I'm also "under review."

Can someone explain if AMCAS automatically forwards our AMCAS ID with our letters of recommendation?

I'm a non trad with a grad degree. Based on the non-trad language, do you think I need 3 or 4 academically oriented letters?

I haven't had a chance to call during business hours yet, but I'll send an email explaining my situation to see what their response is.

Hey, so I just wanted to clarify for the secondary. If you have a committee letter, you can leave everything else blank and only fill out the spot for the committee letter? (Assuming you have no faculty/alumni relations) I don't need to fill out the optional letter spots or anything if my letter packet contains a committee letter right? I called admissions and they told me I didn't need to fill anything else out but I just figured I'd double check here in case someone was told otherwise, seeing as they'd get $120 anyways I take their advice with a grain of salt. Can somebody please provide insight on whether I am right or not? Call me paranoid, but better safe than sorry haha.

I asked my admissions committee about this and they told me the same thing! So I submitted with just filling out the committee letter info!

Haha perfect! It just looked so weird being so empty. Appreciate the response, will submit now!

I'm finishing up a grad degree this year and was told that I needed at least one LOR from program director/faculty... I think 3 or 4 should be fine if they are somewhat current.

Anyone else having trouble logging in today? It keeps redirecting me to the sign in page.

Hey I had a similar problem, did you get a response out of them?

This was their response to my email:

"If you are unable to have the required letters submitted on your behalf, please send us an email to [email protected] stating that you would like your application complete as is with the letters you are having sent in. Please keep in mind that the strongest applications are those with the required letters."

Man, still can't log in. It keeps on redirecting me to the sign in page. No one else is having any issues?

Try going to the secondary from their admissions page. That's how I have to go to get to the status page because when I tried to log on it would do the same thing.

i still can't get over how their secondary fee has passed GWU's…come on NYMC

Does anyone know if the secondary asks for an ACT score? I can't seem to look at the secondary since I already submitted it and was previously using the wrong ACT score for my applications.

Never asked for it

ACT score? As in ACT from high school? Have other schools asked for something like this?

I only remember WUSTL asking for high school records, not NYMC.

One of the letters I designated in the secondary is not showing on the status update as being received or even listed. Is anyone else having the same issue? Feel like it could be because this letter was submitted a few days after the others maybe haha

I'm a biology major and have the required science and non-science LOR but none of my science letters are from biology professors. Is anyone else having this issue?
