2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's nobody else who could write a letter? I don't understand online classes @Saxappeal1 but if it was like a video chat room like my MCAT class was and the professor saw your caliber of work and all that jazz then they might be able to write a quick one. Doesn't hurt to ask and this could be a letter you just use for NYMC!

Not to be off topic... but what do schools think of you taking a lot of online courses?

I'm not sure, but as long as it's not a bunch of math/science courses I can't see it being a big deal. I took 8 or 9 of my GE classes online because it freed my time up so I could work. Gotta save up for applications somehow right? :greedy:

There was no professor contact stickshift. Im cooked. See I have a letter from my previous major, but I don't think they will take it

Call and explain the circumstances? Did you list the previous major on AMCAS because that's the letter they want, and if you did that'll count

This. I got an email notifying me that my two science letters had to be from professors of two different courses, not two from the same. I called them up and notified them that I've graduated since then and can't really drive 400 miles to request letters from professors. They marked the application as complete without the second letter. So call them and see what they say!

Has anyone gotten in before without one of the required letters?

Uhhh so looks like I'm screwed for NYMC. I got into a new major as of last fall, and only one teacher for this major taught me that wasn't online, she just told me she won't write me a letter. Welp.

Let them know your situation. I didn't have a non-science letter and I just requested they consider my application without it, they agreed.

I did. They said my application won't be as strong and since NYMC gets a lot of applications, I am already at a huge disadvantage.

Do I absolutely need an undergraduate committee letter if I did an SMP and submitted the committee packet from the SMP institution? For the graduate letter I simply put down the name of one of the professors whose letter is included in the SMP committee packet.

Hello! applying from California!

I'm a bit confused as to what I should put down for 'credit hours' for my letters.
I'm getting a letter from a course with 4 credit hours from a quarter system.
My AMCAS application shows converted semester hours (2.70). Which one should I put?

Or if they see that my college name is a UC, would they recognize 4 as a quarter system credit hours??

Thank you!

Those of you who were placed on hold, would you mind sharing when you were complete?

On hold as well! Definitely better than a rejection, which was what I was expecting to be my first reply from a med school during this cycle haha

Maybe everybody gets the hold letter at some point?

How can people with such great stats be getting on hold so early? If you guys are on hold I'm sure mine is coming 🙁
