2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone gotten a complete email? When I go to log in to the secondary site all I get is a message on the log in screne that says I completed the application on July 8.

I'm a little confused and want to make sure I'm doing this right...

Got my secondary today. My AMCAS has yet to be verified, and I'm still waiting for my preadvising committee letter to be received and acknowledged by AMCAS. I know once the letter is received I'll have all the requirements. Can I still turn in my secondary now?

Hey, so I just wanted to clarify for the secondary. If you have a committee letter, you can leave everything else blank and only fill out the spot for the committee letter? (Assuming you have no faculty/alumni relations) I don't need to fill out the optional letter spots or anything if my letter packet contains a committee letter right? I called admissions and they told me I didn't need to fill anything else out but I just figured I'd double check here in case someone was told otherwise, seeing as they'd get $120 anyways I take their advice with a grain of salt. Can somebody please provide insight on whether I am right or not? Call me paranoid, but better safe than sorry haha.
That's what I did...

Has anyone used the AMCAS fee waiver? I emailed them with the title, explaining I'd like to pay with the fee waiver but got no response yet nor can I submit my secondary.

I did, and I never got a response either. Eventually I looked at my status page and had been complete since two days after I submitted it. I guess if they get the email they override the payment step and submit it for you.

Regarding the status page, I have a line that reads (under the "Interview Invite" heading):

"This section contains updated information about the status of your interview invite."

Probably reading too much into this, but I assume everyone has this message and that it doesn't really mean anything to my particular application (it was updated today btw)?

I have it too. I'm assuming everyone gets this status :\

mine says "DrPhilster's interview invite"

got my secondary today as well, added the NYMC less than a week ago

Applying here, OOS. My AMCAS isn't verified yet but I received and submitted the secondary. BTW - they must have realized "madicine" was spelled incorrectly because it's fixed now! haha

Does anyone know how they value UG vs. Graduate GPAs? My UG is around 3.4 but my grad is 3.8+ & 34 MCAT.

not sure about NYMC specifically, but ur grad gpa and mcat definitely compensate for your ugpa

Does anyone know what kind of courses qualify as "General Biology"? Do we need to have two lab courses that correspond to the "General Biology" lecture courses? I mean, I've taken the intro bio course and the lab component for it, molecular bio, genetics, tissue anatomy with lab and will take physiology with lab. But I didn't take the lab courses for molecular bio and genetics because they were separate..

I submitted my NYMC secondary 2 weeks ago, and when I try to log in to the secondary, I get a message that says I already submitted. But when I check my status, it says "A unique LOGIN ID and PASSWORD was sent to the email address listed on your AMCAS application in order for you to complete the NYMC Secondary Application" and doesn't say anything about my secondary having been submitted. Is this normal? Should I call and ask about this? I also never got an email confirming they got my secondary.

I think it's normal. And since it says submitted when you go to the secondary app page, pretty sure you're fine. That was also the only line under "secondary application" of the status page for me for a while. Once my letters were in, another line was added like this:

  • 07/xx/2014 - Your Secondary Application was completed by the Office of Admissions and is currently under review by the Committee for Admissions.

Im kind in the same boat however when I go to the initial link they emailed out (the one where you input your login and password) nothing happens. is the message which says you already submitted is at the heading of the login page "secondary application completed message" what you're referring to? I also have the same prompt on the status page and never got an email confirming…

No everyone seems to have that.

So everyone gets that eventually? I just noticed mine says that as of today

what link did you guys use to find your current status?

Yep that's the same situation I had. I called and they said it takes 4 weeks to process your secondary, so 4 weeks after you submitted, your status should update! So no need to worry 🙂

lol gotta get more LOR's since I dont have one from Psych or from chem (lol math is not a science?)

Question: Does it look bad if you submitted the secondary weeks after you got it? I won't be complete if I submit it now since I'm waiting on my committee letter but I might as well just do it. I wonder if they'll take kindly to that.

Were the essay prompts posted here? I can't seem to find them. Thanks.

It certainly wouldn't be a negative, and quite frankly, with no essays on the secondary, I don't know why you'd wait.

Awesome, but now this makes me worry about how strict they will be with sending out IIs lol

Uhhh so looks like I'm screwed for NYMC. I got into a new major as of last fall, and only one teacher for this major taught me that wasn't online, she just told me she won't write me a letter. Welp.

Not to be off topic... but what do schools think of you taking a lot of online courses?

I mean they are real classes, so it doesn't matter. So I don't really know what to do
