2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't received any communication at all from them yet...no keep in touch or anything. I was complete late July. Is anyone in the same position? It seems like most have gotten at least the KIT e-mail.

+1. Complete 7/30. So frustrating!

Does the stay in touch email actually mean anything? When I got it I thought it was just something they sent because you completed their secondary and got put on an email list.

I thought the same thing... now I'm just confused!

It doesn't mean anything. Everyone is supposed to receive it. We're just all overanalyzing it because that's what neurotic premeds trying to get into med school do.

First of his name. OOS, 3.52, 32. Complete 7/22. "Staying-in Touch" raven arrived 8/7. No hold.

It doesn't mean much- the KIT appears to be an automated message encouraging applicants to follow them on social media. That, or it could be some Lannister treachery. Regardless, your king implores you to cease your neurotic behavior and await further word.

This is the best account ever

The God of Light will have your II soon, my lord. We just have to take the blood of king's bastard before the e-mail can be sent.

Thanks a lot for your input. Although it's still hard for me to decide whether to apply or not. On the one hand, it's a very easy secondary application. But on the other hand, it's $120 and my stats are pretty average and I am Canadian.

Interestingly, I received an II yesterday without the required 2 science LORs.

For others who are curious, I received the stay in touch email on 8/8.

Wait now I am confused. How did you receive the stay in touch email before the II ? (Assumming II means secondary app) I thought they send the stay in touch email after you send in the II...

No, II means interview invite, not secondary app...the KIT does come after submitting your secondary.

Is anyone still waiting on their secondary? I added the school on 9/21 and still haven't received anything.

submitted my secondary 3 weeks ago. no update email or anything, is this normal?

Is the the KIT E-Mail the one with the subject line saying "Staying In-Touch with NYMC"?

those with recent II's, what dates are interviews up to?

I got an II on the 30th, The earliest date I could pick was January 29, but I went for early February due to logistics.

If anyone is interviewing here tomorrow (10/06) and is going to the Croton-Harmon amtrak station, PM me since it would be nice to minimize costs. And if not, no big deal!

Rephrasing this from before!--- how are people's impressions of the school who've interviewed so far going? Thanks!

Hey guys, I was wondering how your interview experiences here were. I have an interview scheduled for NYMC in a few months but I'm wondering whether or not I should go…my hesitancy comes from the idea that I might already be accepted into one of my top choice med schools before interviewing at NYMC and reading some of the stuff people said about NYMC on SDN makes it sound like it's a really last choice for students. I was just curious; I know it's a very long standing reputable school, but the price tag and negative ideas surrounding it are kind of scaring me a bit. Thanks!
lol.. don't assume things. Attend every interview until you have an acceptance in your hand. Also, you could postpone the interview to a date after you hear back from your "top choice" school. NYMC is a great school.. Last choice? Getting into medical school is no joke even with good stats. You can become more choosy after you get multiple acceptances.

Thanks pink floyd! I don't mean to sound presumptuous…my interview at NYMC isn't for a few months but I'm just curious how peoples experiences are going. I probably had a controversial post too…I just rephrased it so hopefully it sounds less presumptuous! I'm just running really high costs with applying so far and staying in NYC sounds very expensive (although I realize med school there is even more so)!

No issues.. I just didn't want you to limit your options because of what people said on sdn. I have quite a few friends at NYMC who love the place. If your interview is in a couple of months, then you have plenty of time to decide! GL!

Hello!

The students that attend NYMC seem to genuinely love it! I am currently trying to type up a review of my experience today so it should be up in the next 30 minutes. Interviewees must sign a confidentiality agreement since it is MMI format so I cannot comment on that!

Thanks guys! @womanofscience where is your review btw?
I definitely have been noticing too that everything said on SDN must be taken with a grain of salt (esp. the positive reviews), but I love all the input I can get!

Ooops! It is on my MDApps page so click on my ID (underneath my avatar pic) and it should take you there. After that, click on the New York Medical College link. Or I could PM the overview to you with a few more comment 🙂

Anybody else having trouble logging into the secondary application? Every time I try to log in the page just refreshes and takes me back to the log-in site. I haven't been able to check my status in a couple weeks now haha

Yup. Happens to me too. You may have to clear your browser and not save your password. Sometimes that works for me.

Click "Continue" on the bottom, it will direct you to their website --> click on "secondary application" on the right side of the screen --> then select "check your application status". It should redirect you to a page that works

also in the same boat. when I check my status online it doesn't even say I'm complete yet. no clue

It took them 7 weeks to process my secondary application. I did call once after 5 weeks of waiting and they simply told me to wait as it usually takes 4-6 weeks after submission to show as 'complete' on your application status.

that's maybe the longest wait time I've heard, but thanks for the clarification!

I didn't receive any communication at all after submission of secondary. It says "under review" on the portal but it seems like all of you got a KIT or something....is this unusual/should I call them?

Same here although I submitted my secondary in mid-September

Has anyone heard anything after being placed on hold?

I submitted 9/5 and never got that email either. I guess I won't keep in touch. Sigh.

I submitted early July, received and email saying "we received your secondary", got the KIT about a month later in August, and II late August.

Therefore: takes a bit of time, so just breathe deep breathes.

I would call the office to ask, if you really wanted to.

From what I've seen, KIT is sent to most everyone. Maybe they haven't looked at your app yet, or simply forgot to send it. Sort of analogous to schools small pooling, who eventually just start sending II without small pooling.

If you're under review, you're under review, and just have to wait. I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks, that helps a lot! I'm feeling a little behind the game since I sent in secondaries so late (and still working on some) and have yet to get any interviews. But patience is a virtue, I suppose.

My secondary has been complete for almost 2 months and I haven't received any emails either (including the KIT email). Could you please let us what's up if you decide to call them?

Received the secondary to NYMC a while ago…chose to save $120 and not fill it out. Received an email from NYMC today reminding me to fill out the secondary and now I can't decide. It's late(r ) in the cycle. 27 MCAT, 3.8+ GPA, strong ECs and great LOR. Two interview invites and two rejections so far. Any input on if it's potentially worth it or I should save my $120?
