2014-2015 Rutgers University - NJMS Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just asked to bring my resume to my interview, and it just made me super paranoid. Has anyone else been asked this?

I didn't get that. Was it in a separate email from the interview confirmations / II?

Yeah it was separate. My interviewer requested that I bring a copy along with me.
That seems fine. Maybe your interviewer just likes having an abbreviated version along with the detailed amcas app. I wouldn't worry, especially if you were honest to the best of your knowledge on your app.

was complete mid august have not heard a thing. Is there any way to check status?

so nervous for my interview, can someone give me some tips please? how to relax or something?

I interviewed in the first week of September and haven't heard anything yet (approximately 7 weeks ago). Are other people in the same position?

I interviewed in September as well and still haven't heard back 🙁

Well I called after I posted, and the admissions office says that turnaround is between 6 - 8 weeks. We've all seen that some people get much faster responses, but obviously there are many factors like when your interviewer is available. Seeing that someone already posted getting a rejection via e-mail 🙁 , I don't think there is any evidence to indicate that a slower response is indicative of a negative decision.

I agree with you I think there are a lot of factors when it comes to getting the call and at least the lack of a rejection letter is a positive. We must stay optimistic!

I got the phone call this weekend, approximately 8 weeks after interviewing, so there is definitely a lot of variability in how quickly you can hear. Good luck everyone

Has anyone had an interview recently that could give some feedback on their experience?

A couple dates in November left for interviews

Ha I was half joking, but mainly because there were 2088 OOS applicants last year, and only 40 of them got interviews, and 0 matriculated. NJMS has heavy in state bias.

But who knows maybe you will be one of those 40!
This is blatantly untrue. While there is a high IS representation here, I know a few students who are not IS. That being said, yeah applying as an OOS does put you at a disadvantage, but that's part of the game. I applied to 12 OOS when I applied.

Just to add, at my interview day they stated that OOS matriculants work with NJMS to register as in-state before matriculation to lower tuition cost, and that is reflected in the "0 OOS matriculants" data

Haha, well that's pretty cool of them. Even stats lie! NJMS is a cool place with some great professors (and as usual, some pretty bad ones too). Join volleyball club and the acapella group!

Yeah I dunno how the number trickery works, but is that true for those offered interviews? Because on MSAR there were still only 40 OOS interviews offered.

Didn't say it was impossible, but NJMS is a heavily in-state biased school. Other schools are much more OOS friendly (relatively).

I'm assuming all matriculants to NJMS are registered in-state and are therefore counted in-state for both the interview offer and matriculant sections of MSAR

Well then I guess the exact numbers will remain a mystery. I think they should submit stats to MSAR that are before in state registration.

Still I feel if you are going to apply to this school you need a very compelling reason if you are OOS.

A little off topic, here is NJMS' class profile for 2018: http://njms.rutgers.edu/admissions/prospective/stats.cfm

They accept over 50% of those who interview, so good luck to those still waiting to hear back, your chances are pretty good.

Accepted!!! Dean Heinrich was awesome on the phone, he knew personal details about my application. Wowzers. Interviewed mid October. 34 MCAT, 3.44-3.64 science and cumulative GPA

Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear!!!

If while corresponding with Dr. Heinrich he suggested that I send a letter of update, do you think it would be redundant to send a copy to both admissions as well as Dr. Heinrich himself? He seems really open to working with individual students, especially those who are strongly interested, but I'm not sure if that would be crossing the line of burdening him or being annoying.

CC to admissions but he's on the committee so the letter will be placed in your file either way..

Can anyone comment on the interview day here...my interview is this monday

There is a tour and a lunch, which usually starts at 12 PM. Interviews are ~30 minutes each, and there is 1 faculty and 1 student (if you signed up for it). Overall they are pretty conversational.

IS and complete since early August, not a peep...anyone else in the same boat?

yup, except i was complete early september. there are other schools (OOS) that ive been complete at since early august and havent heard anything from them yet either so just gotta be patient

Does anyone know what acceptance chances/rates are post-interview at njms? Or if a LOI tends to have any effect at this school in the case of a waitlist?

I interviewed early October and haven't heard anything back yet. Anyone on the same boat??
