question for current students - where is best to live? one of the only things I don't like about rwjms is the distance b/w campus and hospital, so how do you choose which to live closer to? haha
fwiw I'm looking for a 1-2BR apartment (or townhouse, etc.. not too picky). I don't really care about other details, other than convenient access to laundry. or ngl, big closet is a bonus 😛

The majority of students live in a condo/townhouse complex called Society Hill, which is approx 3 min from campus and 10 min from the hospital. There are also a fair number of students living in Piscataway and Highland Park in houses/apartments, and some living in apartments in NB. Society Hill is pretty much the closest you can get to school and convenient socially (friends will be within walking distance). It tends to be a bit pricier than living in a house/apartment in Piscataway or surrounding towns, but cheaper than an apartment in NB. Some students choose to move between M2/M3 to be closer to the hospital. Honestly, all of the housing in the area is so close to both the school and the hospital that it doesn't make a huge difference whichever you are closer too. That said, 95% of your time in M1/M2 will be spent at the school, not the hospital. But don't worry! All of this information (and more) will be communicated to you on the school housing days. Finding housing in the area is not hard, so there shouldn't be any urgency.

thanks so much! 🙂 quick q, is signing a lease in July too late in the game? I am 95% certain of my roommate, but the other 5% is waiting on events in late June/early July haha. I'm wondering if I should just sign a lease in June, then get a new roommate if necessary, or wait until everything is settled in July

Absolutely not. We even have a few people who sign leases after school starts.

Has anyone on competitive hold heard anything yet?

I think they're still making decisions for the last batch of applicants. I know we were told late march early april would be the next committee meeting when i interviewed on 3/6. I imagine competitive hold won't start to move until after that

Do any current students know the rough timeline of when they received the course schedule with exam dates for the year?

Thanks so much!

Rejected via snail mail today. Interviewed 3/6. Good luck to all those going to RWJ next year!

Anybody accepted off competitive hold? Downgraded to hp alternate list today. More waiting. Just peachy..

Yup, same thing happened to me the other day. I truly hope those who have decided on other schools to give up their spot here as soon as possible!

What I thought was a silent rejection, now I have Priority Waitlist - snail mail. Nov interview
I feel better since I thought my chances were gone.

Do you guys know anything about waitlist movement stats? From prior research on previous sdn threads there are 3 waitlist categories. But not much detail on whether the entire high priority list gets in or only a small portion

I'm on the HP waitlist also, and I'm not too sure what it means but I'm sure its a good thing.

I will be matriculating here! Super excited to be a member of RWJ community.

A quick question.

I don't have a car yet, and I would wait as long as I could until it is absolutely necessary to have a car.
Right now, I am looking to live at society hill, but I am also concerned that I would have to go to hospital every now and then. Would it be feasible to live without a car for the first two years? Thanks in advance!

Congrats! I look forward to meeting you at orientation!

You definitely can get by without a car, but it's not the easiest thing. I have a classmate that likes to walk to school from SoHi and when it's cold she grabs a ride with her roommate or friends. You do have to cross Hoes lane, which is a rather busy road, so just take caution. As far as getting to the hospital, the deans are working out the logistics of a shuttle system that will travel between the med school and the hospital throughout the day. They aren't sure of the schedule yet but it's likely to leave once an hour. If the shuttle timing doesn't work for you, the med school is on Busch campus with access to the Rutgers bus system. So getting into New Brunswick is definitely doable. Getting to the gym, grocery store or just running errands might be a bit more difficult from Piscataway though.

There's also the problem of offsites for Patient Centered Medicine. You can tell them that you don't have a car and they can place you somewhere locally for most of your visits. But there are a few times we need to go to other places, like JFK hospital or a school for children with special needs; a lot of those visits are not in New Brunswick. I also know people that have been sent to Newark and Neptune for shadowing. It might be a little bit more difficult second year because we have a lot more offsites and I don't think they have as much flexibility to keep you in New Brunswick for everything. So take that into consideration. If you are really averse to having a car, I suggest living in New Brunswick. The walkability is so much higher than SoHi, and on days you don't need to go to school, you still have the city to keep you occupied.

If you want to, you can DM me and I can get you into contact with my classmate that lives in SoHi without a car. She can give you her honest opinion of what that's like for her.

I apologize if this was asked before, but did anyone receive their complete financial aid package yet? On the portal, I saw a few lines about unsubidized loans but I'm not sure if those comprise the entirety of my financial aid package. Thanks for the help!

Out of curiosity, to those who were accepted: what were your GPA and MCATS?

Withdrew from the waitlist. The hardest withdrawal has to definitely be your home institution, for sure.

I was placed on the "alternative" list. Has anyone been accepted from it yet? When I called the office they said they couldn't give me much info but they might start dipping into it come late April. They also told me that sending in letters and updated info was a waste of time because the committee wouldn't look at them. :/

I am on the alternate list as well. The lady I spoke told me that the most movement occurs early summer.

I'm in the same boat. Which alternate list are you guys on? Hp or regular?

I'm on the regular. I also asked if her if people on the regular alternate list get accepted, but she said she's not allowed to discuss that .

Withdrew my acceptance this morning. Really hope it goes to one of you. Best of luck to you all and I hope we all wear a white coat this coming august.

Yup I'm also on the regular one 🙂... All this mystery about the movement and not knowing where we are on the list makes me feel like we're applying to some ultra secret Men in Black training lol This has to be the worst thing we can hear, besides a rejection of course 😛, but I think we'll have to really just wait and see cause no one is really giving us much info, at least from the admission's side.

Thank you! One question about the acceptance though, if it's not against the rules or anything like that, can you tell us what deadline they gave you to send in your acceptance or withdrawal?

Hey! The ideal deadline to inform a school of a withdrawal is today for people holding 2 or more acceptances. If it is done by today then people can still get a deposit refund, I believe.

Anyone disappointed by how high the cost is for this school? It's comparable to privates! And all loans for the financial aid.

Had to reluctantly withdraw. Hopefully someone gets my spot!

I hope so too. I plan on calling within the week or so just to check on list movement but yeah there's nothing else to do. Thank you all for the support in here 😀

If you do call, please share what they say. Inquiring minds want to know

I called the admissions office on Monday and the lady said that RWJ accepted more students than they usually accept this year so waitlist movement would be slim to none. Basically told me there isn't much hope. Said that there'd be very little chance there'd be any movement in May. Wasn't satisfied so I email Mrs Copeland who replied saying that its true and that waitlist movement would be incredibly tiny and won't probably occur in May. She said I should proceed under the assumption that the space will not open up.

Did she say that about the high priority list or the regular one?

Oh man, I was really hoping to *not* see this 🙁.

How does one know if they're on the HP list or the regular wait list? The letter I received in the mail just says "alternate list," so I'm guessing I'm on the regular one?

fyi, those of us who are matriculating just got an email saying the class is overbooked and offering a one-year scholarship to anyone willing to defer. so that confirms that waitlist movement is highly unlikely

I also just got that email. Does that pose any threat to those matriculating and not willing to defer? I have heard of mandatory deferment done at other schools.

I have also gotten the email... I think they have no choice but to accommodate everyone; I don't see how they can force people to wait a year. I am a little shocked and disappointed that they let this happen to be honest.

And yes I think even those on HP list movement will be minimal.

doubt it

Is anyone else seriously thinking about deferring? Man, this is a curveball... Very tempting :/

I'm so ready to start school again I personally wouldn't defer for anything before a full ride+COA. I'm no finance major but the future year of full physician salary lost seems like 1 year of free tuition would actually be a net loss in the long run
