2014-2015 The Commonwealth Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! I'm a little late to this (just joined SDN today), but I am an OOS student who completed my secondary 8/1, but I haven't heard anything. Checked the supplemental and there's nothing. I know it hasn't been very long, but I just want to hear back!

Haven't heard back either complete 8/2

Soo, is anyone complete late August/early September who hasn't heard back toast? Has anyone actually been rejected here yet?

I was complete on the portal 7/30 but never received a complete email or anything else. OOS, 29 mcat, 3.88 gpa, grew up in a small town. I thought I was a pretty good fit, but who knows. This process is crazy.

Getting ready and Excited for my interview my Monday !! 9/29 anyone else that day?

I was complete around the same time. Never received a complete email, but the portal said I was good. Called a couple of weeks ago, and they said my app was ready to go, it just hadn't been reviewed yet. Guess I'm just not high on the priority list, but hey, I'm on the list! Little victories...:soexcited:

Getting pumped for mine on Friday- I'll probably miss you Monday peeps, though. Anybody know if this is closed/open file? Maybe I'm just being dumb and looking in the wrong place, but I couldn't find it anywhere

It's partially open. The faculty member can see your primary and secondary essays. The student can just see secondary essays. Mcat and gpa are not available to them.

has anyone had an interview yet? 🙂

I interviewed there. The faculty is great, the students I encountered were happy and laid back. I also loved the way almost everyone in town said hello or acknowledged my presence on the streets, furthermore I had people stop me and asked if I needed help finding my way around. lol

The interview process was conversational and very relaxed.

That's good to hear. I have an interview next week with TCMC.

my first interview invite also!! couldn't be happier. committee LOR wasn't in until last week so that's when I was complete. CAN'T WAIT!

Congrats! I saw you stressing in the underrepresented forums-- I'm extremely glad you received an II. Hopefully, there's more on the way.

haha "stressing" has become my middle name these days, but it feels great to get one! thank you for the kind words.

I interviewed here and loved it. Faculty all seemed very open and interested in the students. The students seemed happy and the campus is gorgeous, with plenty of room to spread out in the future. Student and faculty interviews were in the morning. Honestly, they felt short and I wish I had more time to talk to my interviewers, but I guess that's a good sign? They were both pretty laidback and I didn't feel particularly stressed, other than first interview jitters. I loved Scranton as a city though.

I forgot to mention that my group of interviewees were told: about 6,000 applicants came in by the time they were on their second week of interviews! I think 6,000 applicants was the total number of applicants they received last year.

I was complete 7/29 and just received an e-mail saying my status has changed. My status says my application is complete and has been forwarded to the committee for review. I don't remember if it previously said something different. Hopefully this means I will hear something soon?

Out of curiosity, does everyone receive a secondary or do they screen applicants?

Guys, my plane has a propeller. Feeling a little intimidated by the ruralness, and I'm from smack in the middle of the Midwest. Guess it really is the place to do study rural medicine!!!

So does this mean if we haven't gotten this email yet we haven't even been considered/forwarded for review by the committee?

What have the interviewers been like this cycle so far? Anyone get really grilled by old-school type docs or professors, or has it been more casual and laid back? Also, have you been interviewed by physicians or basic science professors? Just trying to get sense of what to expect.

I have no idea. I was wondering what it meant. I got an identical e-mail (saying my status had changed) in late July and then got another one today. I had kind of given up on VCU because it seemed like everyone that was complete around the same time as me had already heard something. This process has made me so neurotic and I tend to over-analyze everything.

VCU? Do you mean TCMC?

Mine was pretty laid back, everyone else said the same. Had a faculty physician and a second year student
