Anyone have an idea of what's up with financial aid? There isn't anything on my aid page on Gibson but their site recommends to fill out forms in March

Give the office a quick call. They are very friendly and will help you out. Maybe your FAFSA had some issue when you submitted it and it hasn't gotten into their system yet.

Anyone have any idea what the average financial aid package is like? I like Tulane and NOLA more than my state school but its hard to argue the price difference.

Looking for a place to live? Cheap rent, gunners welcome. PM me if you're interested.

I have two rooms in a 3br house for rent at $400 each, plus electric and gas. The rent includes internet and water/sewer/trash. I'm living in the third room, but I'll be spending most of the year in Baton Rouge doing my T3 core rotations. Both rooms have been newly remodeled, with fresh paint and refinished hardwood floors. The kitchen is fairly big, and there's a fenced backyard. The house is in Upper Bywater. It is 10-15 minutes from the med school and about 5 minutes from Frenchman Street and the French Quarter.

The reason I'm charging such cheap rent is that I'm still doing some remodeling work to the exterior and in the kitchen and living room. All I have left to do are little things like painting and trim carpentry, but you will need to be okay with walls that need a coat of paint and a house that looks shabby from the outside. All the work is done in the bedrooms and bathroom though, so any work I do won't be in your room.

Still looking as of 4/26. I'll remove this post if the house fills up.

Accepted to Tulane about a month ago and totally stoked! My gut instinct is telling me New Orleans but I have a tiny hesitation regarding the location so far from home. A little background--originally from New York, and ideally would like to return to the city for residency. I am also considering one of the more competitive residencies (my father and brother both practice the speciality). The other schools I am considering are in NYC, Chicago and Boston. I realize scores and residency placements are very subjective to the student. My question is, am I putting myself at a disadvantage at returning to New York in a competitive residency by attending a school so far in the south? Also, tuition is not an important factor in my decision.

Also, is there no second look for Tulane?

Thank you!!

Does anyone know when you can expect a financial aid package? I sent in FAFSA and that Tulane specific form in the mail by the deadline.

The financial aid office said they plan to release FA packages within the next two weeks. We should receive a notification by email.

that happened to me too. I called after 2 weeks of seeing the message and they said there was an error in downloading my FAFSA. They also said that once the FAFSA was downloaded and the addendum was received it would take an additional 2 weeks to see my award.

Tulane matches students to competitive residencies all over the US (east coast, california, wherever). I wouldn't anticipate any difficulty returning to NYC for residency so long as you had the appropriate board scores. Like you said, residency placement is more dependent on the individual rather than the school, though it does help that Tulane has a good reputation.

Tulane had a second look two cycles ago, but it resulted in too many people matriculating and the class was overfilled. If you wanted to revisit New Orleans I'm sure you could find a current student who wouldn't mind showing you around. We're all friendly people.

where can we find the addendum? I must have missed the email about it...thanks!!

Withdrew my acceptance today, best of luck!

Withdrew my acceptance today. It was tough, but it was just too expensive and far away. I love New Orleans though. Good luck everyone!

My addendum status says: "waved by FA" along with a date from 2012... anyone else have something like this? Status was incomplete until a day or two ago. Still not seeing any aide package info. Anyone get their offers yet?

awesome, thanks so much! 🙂 one more question..does anyone know if there's a laptop requirement for students?
There is, but I have never heard of a laptop not meeting the requirements for online exams.

Seriously considering coming to Tulane! I wanted to ask people from the school/New Orleans about the weather though. Never lived in a Gulf Coast summer and I hear it can be brutal. Any thoughts from current students?

Humans are quite adaptable. I hear people live in the Caribbean too, where it is even more hot and humid.

You will be inside a hospital for 2/3 summers, and maybe in a research lab (or home) for the third summer. It won't be a show stopping problem.

You quickly learn to walk a little slower, stay on the shady side of the street, and hey, if you must spend extended time outdoors during the summer, it is legal to drink a cold beer in public. Some guy on a bicycle, towing a cooler behind, will probably sell you one.

Financial awards went out today. Does anyone know when they typically disperse merit scholarships?

Will be releasing my seat this afternoon! Loved Tulane, but can't justify a full loan dependent financial aid package in comparison to a generous aid package from a state school. Good luck to everyone attending this Fall!

Withdrew today, best of luck to whomever gets the spot. I loved New Orleans and the school!

Tulane was probably my favorite school with my least favorite price tag. Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to all of you!

Also withdrew last night. As great as the school and New Orleans would be, I can't justify the extra loans. Enjoy NOLA!

When are the waitlist rankings supposed to be sent out?
Do you actually find out what your rank is on the waitlist or just that you are on the waitlist?

It would be nice to know if you are 3rd or 103rd on the waitlist order.

They tell you if you're upper half or lower half of the waitlist I believe

Just got into my top choice of school, so I will be withdrawing. I LOVED TULANE.

Just got pulled off the waitlist too! first acceptance unbelievable feeling!!Congratulations to all accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Did anyone else receive the email about the summer biochem course? Would anyone be interested in splitting the cost of it and sharing? Send me a message if you are.
