2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the research question, did you guys talk about your duties in a research lab like "as a research assistant, I cultured X cell lines and was responsible for A B C procedures and wrote sections 1 2 3 in our paper" or did you talk more about "Our project found that C is correlated with D and that there was a strong favorable result in F"
A little of both

Anyone else have trouble submitting the fee? I can click "proceed to secure website" but it opens a broken link in a new tab.

Also for the name I referred it to UMMSM at times and "The Miller School"
I think both would be fine. I put "I have no relevant research experience besides the required prerequisite labs" because that's my situation lolz.

Did you guys leave out high school activities for the most part on the lists? I have a lot of community service activities in high school, but I didn't put them on my AMCAS.

i only put one high school activity on the secondary (not on my AMCAS) because I did it for several years in high school and continued similar community service in college. I included it to show the continuity of this activity. I also talked about this in one of the essays.

I am getting the same error.

EDIT: it's adblock. turn it off temporarily.

Got an email today saying my picture had been received. It took about 5 days in case anyone was wondering

Also, in case anyone was wondering, it seems like you need to include your AMCAS ID in the subject. This wasn't in the original instructions (but was on the secondary webpage) and I sent mine immediately but it wasn't received. However n=1.

I just included my AMCAS ID in the email not in the subject line and it was fine, so don't stress too much 🙂

Weird, I did that but it seems to have been lost in the interwebs. Oh well. It happens.

At what point should we re-send the photograph if it hasn't been marked as received yet?

this happened to me as well. n=2

now

Did anyone take the mcat twice and have a question on what the school considered the "highest composite score"? Is this the highest composite score in one test date or is it taking the highest score in each section regardless of test date?

I included my AMCAS ID in the subject line though, which is why I'm confused. I guess I'll resubmit just to be safe. I hope I don't bother them too much.

Highest composite score in one test date

Has anyone else's application already been "scored by the admissions committee?" The fact that it was so fast for me makes me nervous. =/

It's not that scary. Several people read your application and scored it. How did you envision the process of an admission committee choosing to interview someone? Most committees have several people review each application and score it and depending on the score people are invited for an interview. Admission committees usually meet once you have interviewed.

If you read the above comments, you'll see that others have had their statuses changed to that as well. They're just waiting for a larger pool of applicants before they send out interview offers in August.

Oh, I missed those others before mine on the previous page. Just nervous. I am a reapplicant and last year my status basically stayed as "Under Review" for the whole cycle.

To those who are still waiting for their photo to be confirmed, I think it's possible that you might have to send it to [email protected] instead of the [email protected] that's listed on the pdf instruction form. I'm trying this now and will update if I get a confirmation.

Edit: Confirmed. Try the other email if you haven't had your photo marked as received yet.

So despite submitting all materials including LORs a week and a day ago, my application status still does not have my LORs marked as received. I called today and apparently an IT issue had prevented my LORs from being attached to my file, despite AMCAS having sent them in automatically :arghh::arghh:

I really hope this doesn't delay my application from being reviewed 😢

I sent it to [email protected] 5 days ago still nothing....

Alright boys and girls, I need your input. So there is the option for us to provide an MCAT test date and our highest composite score. Though I'm not a clairvoyant, I have a pretty darn good feeling that my more recent MCAT went a whole lot better than my previous one. However, the new MCAT won't be released until August 12. Should I just leave my old date and score? I'm assuming they're going to get my new score anyway. Thanks in advance!

are you supposed to send the photo even before you have your secondary done?

you definitely can - and should! it takes them longer to load your photo then you will to complete your secondary (most likely)

Has anyone's status changed to "A final decision has been reached by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine on your application. Contact the admissions ofice 305-243-3234upload_2014-7-25_18-37-47.png or [email protected] if you do not receive a telephone call, an e-mail or a letter within seven days."? My application isn't even complete yet. Still waiting for the picture to go through.

Doesn't look like a good sign...

Based on last year's thread, it looks like some people were given this status pre-interviews and that didn't turn out well for the few that noticed this status (n=2, so who knows). Otherwise it is also used for people post-interview it seems like. Since you're not complete technically with no photo, that seems strange, but maybe they don't really need that for right now and they moved forward? When were you complete?

7/20 - email telling me they received my photo (but it never showed up on the status)
7/22 - submitted secondary

Not sure when the status showed up because apparently I never scrolled all the way down until now.

A little odd but oh well. I'll let you know if it's anything different than what it sounds like haha.

For all the people getting different updates, when were you complete?

I was complete around the 12th and I have the scored status.

So what it sounds like is:
*Scored status
*Not final status
*Final status

Based on last year's thread, people ignored posts about the last two statuses 🙁 so it's hard to tell what it all means precisely.

Hmm I was complete the 17th or 18th.. hopefully next week it will update!

So from last years thread, it looks like the "scored" status is a good thing, but certainly not a guarantee of an interview. It also looks like the "Not final decision" status is not necessarily a bad thing... That is just from what I read on last year's thread. I had to pull myself away after too many pages...

I submitted on 7/21 and my status is "Your Application to the UM Miller School of Medicine is complete and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee."

Question! For the chronological lists they only want experiences from college right?

complete 7/16 and I just noticed that I have the status for both MD and MD/MPH:

"Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Admissions Committee review. Applicants who have been reviewed and scored by the Admissions Committee may be notified that they have been selected for an interview between September and April."

Not sure when it showed up.

For people with multiple MCATs. Did any of you have your first MCAT score pre-entered on your application? I'm paranoid now that every school has similar programs that only load one score and load the first score...
