2014-2015 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Idaho WWAMI acceptance today. Interviewed this week...received a phone call from my EXCOM member this afternoon! Good luck to the rest of you!

Same here. I was surprised to hear back so quickly. I could have sworn they told us we'd find out in March.

I'm probably getting impatient with all the different waiting steps, but have people that just sent in their certiphi consent forms gotten their results back?

I initiated mine on the 13th, got the result back on the 14th, but they got my first name wrong...I sent in an appeal on the 14th but have not heard anything since then.

Hey everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has insight to the type of students at UWash? I am wondering if the class is very cohesive and whether there is a great sense of collegiality here. Are the professors open and supportive of the students? How is the culture of the school? @BABSstudent, can you give me a more comprehensive picture of the school and opinion about their clinical rotation sites? Will UWash be open to students setting up their own rotations that may not be offered before?

Thank you for your replies in advance! Any insight is greatly appreciated.

UWSOM is straight pass/fail for the first two years with no internal rankings. This makes our class incredibly helpful. People share resources, study guides, etc. in our facebook page. We also created facebook pages for every site, including the Seattle site, so our things would be more focused.

Overall, I was very pleased with the type of class we have. My advice is to be the type of student you want your classmates to be and set the mood early so people are more likely to be supportive and share things. I suggest you check for yourself during interview day and second look. Use your tour guides and student lunch panel to see how your personality matches with the students.

Our instructors are very supportive and receptive to changes. Every class has an anonymous feedback button so we can give our suggestions for how to change a course. If you do not like something, tell them about it with a suggestion for how to improve it. They normally address it to the entire class the next day.

Just got my completed CBC from Certiphi, signed and submitted it, and now I'm not sure what to do. Can I just start now, please? Seriously, though, does anyone know when they will send out more info/things we have to finish before orientation?

Also, I'm thinking about starting a fb group since there isn't one. I know it's a little early and I'm sure not everyone on here will ultimately enroll, but I am for sure and I wouldn't mind making connections now.

There is a bunch of stuff on the pre-orientation checklist that I guess we are supposed to do, but it seems like a lot requires us getting a UW Net ID with med student privileges. Maybe that'll happen when we pass the background check?

Sounds like no one has started a fb page. You should go for it if you want to! I'm not sure how many students they have accepted, but I would at least join! Haha

@BABSstudent, do you think its worth going to the second look event in Seattle even though I will be attending the Spokane campus? Or do you think its mostly for those going to Seattle?

I honestly don't know. They didn't even have a second look for IS students two years ago. That was started last year.

Just got the SUC email. Fuuuu.... At least I'm still in the running. I assume now 1 more meeting in February then a final meeting in March?

I think they do multiple meetings a month (maybe 2), so you still have a few chances before the wait list and sometimes the SUC emails could be because your EXCOM hasn't been to a meeting, yet (as others have mentioned earlier).

Second SUC email. Wasn't expecting a decision anyway, but it's disheartening nonetheless. Oh welllllll. I'll set my sights on March I suppose.

So, I got bored in lab and made a thing--specifically a Facebook group. I know there's not much to do or say, but join and spread the word as others enroll! It'll be especially useful when we're all looking into places to move into, roommates, etc.

Just got the still under consideration email. We are the 32.5%! Anyone have any thoughts on additional letters of rec, Letters of Intent, etc? Also, does this differ in any substantial way from a waitlist? Because it feels like a waitlist.

Any seattle acceptances recently?

Also just got the "still under consideration" email this afternoon. Secondary submitted early Sept 2014, interviewed Jan 7th, 2015.

I'm not in classes anymore but will update them with "significant activities" since I have a couple things brewing over the next month. In the Interview FAQ's the SOM addresses the idea of sending in thank you letters, and says it has no bearing on the committee's decisions. I'd assume letters of intent may be regarded the same (as in not taken into consideration).

SUC is not waitlist, its a step before waitlist. Some time in March, the admissions committee will meet for one last time - at that meeting, they will accept some, reject some, and those in the middle will be ranked and put on the waitlist. Waitlist is set and you will just have to wait till someone drops his acceptance and its ur turn to take it.

Oh so those SUC won't hear anything until March?
Those who have been told they are SUC can be accepted/rejected at the next meeting or they might remain SUC until March. Both are possible, but everyone will hear back in March.

Do you know when the next meeting is?

Idaho applicant that did not get a call the few days after the interview :/. Got a SUC today so the wait for March begins again, for the second time as a reapplicant. Per one of Idaho WWAMI Deans, Gov Otter is recommending 5 more seats to the state budget - So a total of 35 seats to Idaho. I probably won't get one anyways. Keeping my expectations low this time ha

Those accepted into Idaho TRUST: Keep your phones on you tomorrow. I have it on good authority that we will be receiving phone calls from the WWAMI office

I hate posting so much about this CBC, but has anyone gotten a second request for a background check via Certiphi despite having consented, completed, and submitted their background check already?

I just got another email from Certiphi saying I need to fill out the background check online form . . .

I got one too. I think one is specific to WA state, and the other one is like the general background search (maybe national?).

So I've done both of those already. I got the result of the general one and already had it sent to the school. Hopefully it's just a glitch, cause AMCAS customer service is pretty awful and I doubt they'll be any help if I call and ask.

I got a second request as well. Must be a glitch.

Quick question: When we send in the things UW requires before matriculation such as transcript or background check, is there a portal that shows that items have been received?

Does anyone know when the next excom meeting will be? Thanks

It doesn't seem like it. The best way to find out is to email or call. I'm going through a similar problem with my background check and it'd be great to see that they have successfully received it.

I thought it would be last Thursday, but it wasn't. So I would have to guess this Thursday.

Haven't you learned: Never firmly speculate about when any admissions office will do anything, because they're liable to change on a whim! 😀

If no acceptances go out tomorrow I will resign from my self desigated position of EXCOM committee meeting predictor extraordinaire.
Your visions of the future are uncanny. Are you sure you weren't meant to be a seer instead of a doctor? 😀

Well it seems like past updates were sent out on Thursdays or Tuesdays. So I keep my fingers crossed for Tuesday. :xf:

After sending in grade updates has anyone received a confirmation? I sent them after my semester ended in December and then never got a confirmation and resent them after they were requested in my SUC email about two weeks ago. Is this typical? I've called the office and asked to make sure they were received however, I got an answering machine and no one ever called back. Advice? Insight?
