>60 on the wait list...looks like ill be reapplying next year

Any reapplicant who might be able willing to let me pick there brains about what they did differently??

likewise, feel free to ask (although I'm technically not in yet). It's daunting, but doable! The more advice the better

I am #11 on the alternate list! Interviewed 12/15, SUC'd 4 times. I'm very excited and relieved to have this news! Best of luck to everyone!

My guess is that today was the last EXCOM meeting if they've composed the whole alternate list.

Rejected. Walking proof that UW values a lot more than stats (3.7/42 MCAT). I'll be heading to the Northeast-everyone accepted, congrats and enjoy the best city in the country! If you're new to the area and want advice on things to do feel free to message me. Best of luck to everyone.
Where else did you get accepted? Do I sense ivy in your future?

Hey, with a 42 MCAT, you did well. Best of luck on your future endeavors and maybe we'll see you in 4 years at a residency program!

Anyone here an OOR re-applicant? Rejected tonight. Broken-hearted but still waiting on decision from state school. No acceptances yet and trying to plan for next year, and if my current prospects don't work out, I'd love to give UW another try but not sure how that process looks for OOR candidates. Painful to make it so far at such an amazing school only to have it end in a mass email.

Present as well. Yes, I am an Idaho applicant. But it's still competitive (150+ applicants for 30 seats). I'd say do whatever it takes to get some hands on clinical employment where you get to see the good and the bad of medicine. I believe that's what made me get in this go around.

Thanks, Graywolf. I actually have a lot of unique clinical experience, fortunately, and I've worked in underserved community health centers and overseas. To be honest, I think my MCAT score (28, imbalanced) was the major killer, but I don't quite understand why they'd bother to interview me if it was going to come down to that.

Well, they say that if you make it to the interview stage, you're qualified for them to accept you and the next step is everything else. However, when pools are competitive, it may come down to the numbers. A good way to show your improvement and that you can do well on these tests is to retake the exam while continuing your work with everything else. Still, don't be afraid to enjoy a little of the time and travel and take your mind off of it throughout the year. I think improving your MCAT will open-up doors at other places as well as UW. Best of luck with the reapplication and keep working towards it, as long as you're progressing, it's easy to show how you're a much stronger applicant the second time around.

Also, re-examine your studying and approach to the MCAT. Find areas you could improve, whether it was the timing, the material you used, or just getting better at taking a standardized test by taking plenty of practice tests.

I think given your experiences, UW will appreciate them even over a 28 MCAT, which really isn't too far off the average of matriculants. If the state school doesn't work out, please try again here, I am sure they recognize your persistence to their program. It's an uphill battle as an OOR here.

Thanks so much for all your feedback already! UW honestly couldn't have felt like a more perfect fit, and your kindness only reinforces why this is so devastating. I will certainly reach out at some point for some more specific feedback, if that's okay with you. Tonight, I'm allowing myself to sulk. :(

Alternate list - mid-40s. I'm not going to hold my breath though. It seems like there were a higher number of applicants this year so the alternate list probably won't move as much.

As if the 4 months of SUCs and endless waiting/hoping/praying weren't already enough... Now I get another 4 months of "excitement". :hungover:

MT WWAMI here. Anyone have any stats on the last five years for alternates for WWAMI?
Alt 2 SUC x1

Well it seems like a statistical rarity if they go far from accepting less than 40 from the waitlist, so don't be too hung up on it. If it's your only option left, stay busy just in case. Good luck!

I'm crossing my fingers it's not that one random year where they stop just below 30.... statistics don't fail me now!! Thank you all for the words of encouragement, if it happens that I become your classmate, it's good to know that it's such a supportive group :) @betthat09 I hope we both get bumped up!

To help future applicants, I created another google doc to track the waitlist movement. You guys seemed pretty bummed that only 2012-2013 cycle had one made and that 2013-2014 didn't do it. Well, now you have the option to help out future applicants.

For some reason, SDN makes the link viewable directly on SDN. If you want the link to go directly to the google doc, here (just take out the spaces) https://docs.google.com/ spreadsheets/d/1Azx2pQxzNtO3LBhlY321030ppfBS8vUMP3ydQXB9trg/edit#gid=0

However, this will only work if you want it to work. I can't access to see which waitlist number they are at. Only you guys can. In fact, when I was accepted, only the people on the waitlist could see that information. I made the document editable by anyone with the link. At the end of the cycle, I will make it viewable but not be able to be edited.

The rules are simple: Only put what alternate number they are currently on when you post. If days have been skipped, just add the new day and assume the waitlist moved X number of spots in one day. When recording the date, use the month/day/year format. Make sure you place the information in the correct spot.

I will also add in a graph as more data comes in.

That is rough, right on edge. Could get accepted or could not.

I wouldn't worry about the amount of applicants, at this point the amount of applicants is irrelevant. You had just better hope a lot of people who were accepted also got accepted to Harvard, Hopkins, Columbia, Yale, ect.

You have to have a really good reason to turn UW!

# 15 on the waitlist- but since OOR, still worried about price. I assume we waitlisters have less bargaining power when it comes to things like in-state fee waivers?

You must have cheaper options? I would be willing to pay the out of state price for a UW education, but that is just me.

OOS tuition is killer, especially when you are taking classes year round. It's currently at like $81k for tuition alone during 3rd/4th year. I am not sure how this will change with the new curriculum, since you'll be in school for longer during the first two years.

I honestly don't know because apparently they changed the rules for my class. The school really doesn't get many true OOR people and there are few students in my class paying the full tuition, along with room and board/food, etc and took out the $80k for both the first two years and they will spend about $105k for both third and fourth year tuition/living expenses. In the worst case scenario, an MD will cost about $370+k.

My advice is to contact financial aid and ask them. They know what is available and how the funds are allocated.

I am #33 on the list. I interviewed 2/11 for the WA TRUST program. If i get the opportunity I am planning to go to UW. I am nervous to be on the bubble.

33 is pretty solid, most years get that far. Good Luck!

I've been calling them about this since I was accepted; it's my biggest concern too! They said they are trying to get more waivers and almost had enough for all the current OORs this first year (with two doing a loan forgiveness program after graduating).

They said they might notify accepted OORs about this waiver before second look but it's coming soon. I suspect they make this list after all admission decisions have been made, so it could be any time now.

Hi everyone! I have not tracked this thread at all but it looks like you have no data from last year's wait list movement. Here are some screenshots- one for each month of movement. I only watched the WA/OOR numbers (left column was for last year, right column was for year before). I have no idea how to do cool graphs but it worked for me. Don't drive yourselves too crazy! You will end up wherever you are supposed to be... and if your number doesn't get called at all, make some lemonade out of those lemons.

I'm an OOR wondering about this too. Is there anyway to get instate tuition after the first year? I know this is doable at some other state schools.

Also I am number 23 on the alternate list. Pretty relieved and super grateful but worrying if there's anyway they might pull way less from the wait list this year and not get up to 23. With the higher number of applicants at UW and nationally how will that affect the wait list movement? I know someone asked this recently but just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts or insight.

Here's the link to the school of medicine financial aid page. http://www.uwmedicine.org/education...dent-affairs/financial-aid/budget-information

If you scroll to the bottom, it says how to get in-state status. It has a link to this page: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/residency/

It says:
In order for University of Washington students to be considered residents for tuition purposes, they first must be able to prove that they are U.S. citizens, have U.S. permanent resident cards, or have a qualifying visa (A, E, G, H1, I, K or L).

To be classified or reclassified as residents, for tuition and fee purposes, students must establish a bona fide domicile in the state of Washington primarily for purposes other than education for the period of one year immediately prior to classification as residents.

Nonresident students who are enrolled for more than 6 credits a quarter will be presumed to be in the state of Washington for primarily educational purposes. Such period of enrollment shall not be counted toward the establishment of a bona fide domicile of one year in this state unless the students prove they have, in fact, established a bona fide domicile in this state primarily for purposes other than education.

This is pretty similar to all the other schools I applied to. But address your questions to financial aid and Diane will get back to you super quick. The SOM financial aid email address is [email protected]

I called last week and they said the scholarship page and more info should come this week. Not sure if that's still going to happen . . .

does anyone know if the admissions office is receptive to calls / request for application feedback?

Several adcoms told me the percent increase in applicants is standard, but the number of applicantions per applicant has increased, so it looks like there are way more applicants but there's not. I think each year is disjoint and depends on who gets accepted year. I think the number off the waitlist will be the same its been for the last 5 years, between 37-45. But it's all speculation until June :(

Very much so!!! If you call/write/email, direct it to Stella Yee who will forward on to Dr. Teitz. You might not get the feedback for a while, but if you don't hear back certainly by May/June, re-contact them. DO WHAT THEY SUGGEST YOU DO TO IMPROVE YOUR APPLICATION!!

If any of you Idaho people are reading this forum and have been accepted, join us on Facebook: UWSOM Idaho WWAMI E-2015. Out of the 35 people accepted, we only have 11 people in our FB group. Come on!

I called about feedback last week and was told I should email about it instead. I emailed the [email protected] address and Stella responded within a couple hours.

It turns out I won't be gathering this feedback, however, as I found out a couple days ago that I got into my state school after all! Definitely was not expecting that! I genuinely loved UW and am so happy for all of you who will be able to attend. Major congratulations to everyone who got in, and best of luck to those still waiting to hear/those who are reapplying! Don't give up!!!

Any accepted OORs get the Spokane email? They are opening the Spokane campus option to OORs this year. Time to dig through Seattle vs. Spokane messages

I got it. I think it's great they're opening up that option, but I'm still sticking with Seattle.

That's awesome they are opening up the Spokane campus to OORs. I'm a WA resident myself, but I have heard nothing except great things about the Spokane campus. Small class size, great teaching, I even heard that board scores are a little higher over there. That might just be speculation though. Nonetheless, I will be happy wherever I end up.

I was talking to a second year the other day and she said that many of the Seattle students view the Spokane students as smarter, so I dont think that is all speculation.

We always get told their test scores are higher than ours.

But the Seattle students are better looking...

Any idea when the site assignments come out?

I wonder how many of the 120 Washington residents want to go to Spokane? I would imagine only 10-15, but that is a total guess. So, by my fudgy guess math I would say seattlephiles have a 76% (80/105) chance of getting assigned to the Seattle site. This is ignoring the opening of Spokane campus to OOR applicants, which if given a choice I assume all will choose to attend Seattle.

The Spokane campus is great and stuff, but for all its benefits it isn't Seattle, which I assume is all that really matters for most of us.

I confirmed with the admissions office last week that site placements come out mid-March. So soon I would assume.

There's also a financial element to consider. Cost of living in Spokane is a lot lower than Seattle, so doing your preclinicals there can help to contribute to a lower debt load. I'd imagine most people would be able to make either placement work, with the exception of those with special circumstances.

That is great, a lot faster than I expected :)

I think the email I got some time ago said we would hear in April.

Just received my site assignment a moment ago. Expect all out to be soon. Let the housing games begin!

Is there anything that happens between Orientation and the start of classes? Orientation for Idaho is August 20th-22nd, and classes don't start until September 8th.
