2014-2015 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Whelp. In state applicant, 35 MCAT, decent GPA, went to a great school undergrad, a bunch of clinical experience, and got rejected pre-interview. Life kinda sucks. A lot.

Congrats to all those accepted and who are still interviewing/waiting to hear back.

(Sorry for whining, I'm just pretty disheartened 🙁)

Anyone else have radio scilence since their interview? Its been about 4 weeks since I interviewed and I'm getting nervous!
Did they tell you it would take 3 weeks? Tomorrow marks my 3rd week since the interview and now I'm getting anxious knowing I will probably not hear any news.

They did, but I think the Thanksgiving holiday must've thrown a hitch into the timing of everything.

The admissions folks told me that half the class would be filled be the end of December. So I imagine a bunch of acceptances will start rolling out soon!

Hedging that point, the admissions folks also told me not to worry if I didn't hear by the end of December. They said lots of reasons why the committee might not evaluate Oct/Nov/Dec interviewees until January/February.

Idaho resident. Still haven't rec'd an official date for the interview in about 5 weeks. Anyone else in the same boat? I will be asking the Idaho WWAMI office late next week if nothing comes in.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The WWAMI interviews are in January/February anyway, and it seem like they usually give a solidified date less than a month in advance.

Just got off the phone with admissions (who were extremely nice and helpful by the way). They said that people who interviewed in November should hear back very soon, but could take another week or so. Thanksgiving messed things up a bit for us.
So, it's been a week. How much longer do you guys think it will take?

I called the admissions office yesterday because I have to make a deposit elsewhere by the end of the week. They said that those of us who interviewed on the 12th should hear something this week (although she said the majority will probably be SUC emails). I'm not sure if everyone will hear something this week, or if it was specific to those who interviewed in Spokane on the 12th.

Thanks for the update! My stomach is churning....

Tell me about it... Maybe this is like an initiation kind of thing.. they're dragging us through hell so we'll be more appreciative once we're on the other side 😉

I'm kind of just expecting an SUC. The wait has been long enough now that I sometimes forget I'm on the verge of hearing back. Although the fact that half the class with be filled by the end of this month is unnerving.
Yeah I feel your pain. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I won't be surprised at all if I receive a SUC email. Although I'd still be glad to be in the running over a flat-out rejection 🙂

So I saw my EXCOM member walking out of the admissions office. I was tempted to shake an acceptance out of him/her .... :ninja:

I wonder if they had interviews or an EXCOM meeting... dun DUN DUN

Hmm I wonder if this applies to Seattle interviews as well..
I called the admissions office in Seattle last week and they told me that early-mid November interviews should hear back within three weeks. I have heard conflicting answers though, so I am not sure who to believe.

It does. I would believe the info that a few of us have received from admissions, which is that things were moved back a bit for thanksgiving but most of us early to mid November interviewees should hear something this week. Location is irrelevant regarding Spokane and Seattle interviews, we are all in the same pool.
Got it, thank you for the clarification.

If most people get a Still Under Consideration status, that hardly counts as "hearing back".

Agreed, it's definitely a cop out on their part. Butttt, it's still preferred to a rejection! I know plenty of our colleagues have already had the displeasure of receiving that news :/

It's the school's way of picking a class that matches what they want and the personality type of their current students. Like it or not, the process works, their matriculation rate is one of the highest in the nation and all my classmates have similar personality types. Most of them are very easy to get along with and I can see why they were accepted to this medical school.

Just give it time. If they like what they see, you will hear back eventually. Myself and many of my classmates were even put "Still Under Consideration" in October until March.

My applicant status page is now completely blank. At first it said I would be under review. Now there are no words. It is just a blank double line. Does that mean I will be receiving a pre-secondary denial?

Every day that passes this week makes me more nervous for the next...should've figured they would wait until Friday.
Called admissions yesterday because I couldn't wait any longer. They said they are "most likely sending updates either Dec. 10 (passed) or Dec. 11" But I don't think anyone has heard anything yet. Maybe Friday...

Either they haven't made any calls, yet or none of us on here are getting good news since the emails tend to roll out a little after it's all been said and done.

and for emails, it's usually SUCs or rejections...:arghh:

I don't even know why I wake up in the morning expecting today to be the day. Think I would have learned by now not to expect anything :/ lol

I'm going to liken our situation to Slapsgiving on How I Met Your Mother. Marshall (UW in this analogy) has 5 slaps that he can deliver to Barney (us in this analogy) unexpectedly whenever he wants. From now until March I'm going to be flinching at every email and phone call as if UW is crouching around the corner with a slap waiting :blackeye: Happy Slapsgiving everyone..

I wonder historically how often it actually plays out until March? It's painful having to pay a total of 2k for a deposit by feb 1st, but much better than a rejection I suppose. Best of luck everybody!

Maybe they got tired of everyone calling them and just sent out SUC emails to everyone 😱
They wanted to punish our bad behavior. They are Pavlov and we are his dog.

It does seem strange because the admissions folks told me half the class will be filled by the end of December. Maybe some SUC emails will turn into phone calls before the month is out because based upon SDN posts is does not seem like ~125 people have been accepted.

Also SUC. Did anyone get accepted/rejected? I have to say that UW is my top choice and because of that I almost loathe the fact that I will continue to be anxious for an indefinite amount of time. I hope for the best for all of us!

Perhaps they have a good idea of who is going to make the class, just neglect to tell us until the cycle is over with so they can be sure to consider all applicants. From talking to students and reading previous posts, this seems the most likely scenario. At any rate, I can't imagine they would send a SUC email now, only to wait until March to deliver a rejection. That would be cruel and unusual--I think there's an amendment against that or something.. 😉

Ok, UW math is not working out.

Idaho WWAMI site=30 students
Washington WWAMI site (only Spokane)=40 students
Alaska WWAMI site=20 students
Montana WWAMI site=30 students
Wyoming WWAMI site=20 students
UW Seattle Washington residents=unknown

On MSAR is states that UW accepts 120 "in region" and 115 out of state. But with the totals listed above first year WWAMI enrollment = 140 students, this is without UW Seattle Washington resident enrollment(which I would guess to be around 80)? Something is not right.

But in the email it states that only 33% of those receiving SUC emails get accepted. Not great odds honestly.
