2014-2015 Vanderbilt University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received today and submitted today. This is the best secondary interface I've used!

@bsmd14 Are you part of the auto-secondary group or have you been waiting awhile? They're working today? Good for them...
Verified by AMCAS June 12, I've been waiting for a while. I would assume they are starting to send out secondaries to people with lower stats now. FOr your reference, my GPA is 3.93-4.0, MCAT is 30-34.

Thank you, yes maybe that's what's going on now or someone was just really bored this weekend and wanted to make your day! Congrats!

Very similar stats as me! I'm hoping I get lucky with a Vandy secondary soon here too 🙂

I just added this on Friday, fingers crossed they overlook my lower freshman GPA

Is there a consensus on how many people get secondaries? I've read from last year's thread that around 1200 get it out of 6000ish applicants and around 500 are interviewed. But the Vanderbilt website says 1/3 applicants get it and 20% of those are interviewed

I know they interviewed about 500 last year, and I believe they gave out ~1000 secondaries. The number of secondaries might have changed though since in previous years, receiving a secondary was the same as getting an interview invite (and they used to send 1000 secondaries). But starting last year, getting a secondary was not the same as getting an interview invite and Vandy's class size went from ~100 students to 88 due to the demands and resources needed for the new curriculum.

Did anyone ever call about whether they want all bio/chem/physics or just the prereqs?

Just the prereqs. They have your transcript and GPA.

Think I'm looking at a pre-secondary rejection at this point. At least I won't have to write an autobiography.
I wouldn't give up! I thought the same, and now I'm agonizing over this beast of a secondary. They sent out secondaries until september last year!

Does anyone know if they will start sending pre-secondary rejection notifications? or do we have to wait until after september to be notified?

So reading the Vanderbilt website has me confused as to when they send out the first acceptance notifications. From the website:

October 18, 2014:
The earliest date that an applicant will be notified of an acceptance into the class. Vanderbilt University School of Medicine reviews applications on a rolling basis. Admissions decisions will be sent to applicants at two times: mid-December and mid-February.

So is it Oct 18 or mid-December?

I think all three times? Mid October is a pretty common time to send out first acceptances, and apparently they also do December and February. Not positive though, maybe ask if you get interviewed

Ok, that's what I thought. It just confuses me that they say "admissions decisions will be sent out at two times: mid-December and mid-February" and ignore the October date.

got a secondary today...verified like 07/01 so don't worry if you haven't gotten one yet, they're still coming out. OOS, 3.75, 37
Sweet. Was losing hope...

I wonder when they'll start sending out rejections, though.

my friend got a secondary with a lower 30's MCAT for any of you wondering with those stats 🙂

Still waiting for a secondary, though my expectations are quite low. A little bummed, because my autobiography reveals a lot about me that isn't really addressed in my primary. I think I would be a good fit for Vandy. It would be nice to try and convince them of that with an extra essay, but it's ok if that doesn't pan out. We will see 🙂 I'm happy with how the cycle is going so far, so I won't get too hung up on this one.

Does anyone know if we will get rejection letters soon if we are out of the running?

I still have hope! Just trying not to expect too much. I'll be fine either way, I just thought I'd chime in in case someone reading is curious about who has not been granted a secondary. And thank you!! I've been very fortunate thus far.

Ok so I was verified 7/11, secondary 7/14. 3.9 & 37 (which confirms the 3.8/37 cutoff)
Now it's 7/30, I still haven't submitted because THIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY IS KILLING ME.
Am I screwing myself over bc I haven't submitted yet...?

Nope. Quality over speed. It takes everyone a long time to submit this one.

*Invisible Message* Muhahahaha. Gunners gonna gun.

^I'm probably way too comforted by that statement, but thank you

To the people still waiting- I know a lot of you are saying you don't want to prewrite, but maybe make an outline/organize your thoughts because I feel like I'm drowning in this. Good luck & I hope you guys get secondaries soon 🙂

Just for other's information, my AMCAS was verified 6/10, MCAT scores released 7/22 (38+), received the secondary that same night (GPA 3.9+). Definitely auto-screened. Submitted the next day.

After submitting, did anyone else's comment box on the Required Courses section go away? I typed in some of my writing intensive courses there before submitting and can't see the box anymore.

That seems like a pretty good indicator. And congrats on the score!

UGH finally ready to submit, but the link they sent me in an email isn't working.

Copernicium, the same thing happened to mine. I wouldn't worry about it.
