2015-2016 Creighton University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am beginning to get a complex - I was complete mid-July with a 3.6 gpa, a 33 MCAT, lots of volunteering both medical and non-medical, work in a health care job. Thought for sure I had a chance at an early interview here.
It's only the first day that they're inviting people to interview. Don't worry!

My second II! And 2/2 at Jesuit schools! Anyone else going September 12th? Creighton sounds awesome, and I'm so glad they interview on the weekends.

I'm torn between the convenience of weekend interviews and having to miss my school's football games 😕
I've somehow managed to schedule four interviews without interfering with any football games. I'm not sure how this worked out.

That's exactly the type of scheduling I'm shooting for

Does anyone know if a 5pm flight would be too early if the interview day ends at 3pm?

The Omaha airport isn't very big and doesn't take long to get through and it is relatively close to Creighton's campus, but I still wouldn't do this. What if the interview day gets a little behind and you aren't finished until 3:30 or 4:00? This could create a huge problem for you. I feel like you will probably be nervous about the tight schedule for the entirety of your interview if you schedule a 5:00 flight. I'd go for a later flight if at all possible just for peace of mind.

is there anything to do in omaha for the rest of the day?

Downtown Omaha is a very social area. Lots of bars, restaurants, and other places to unwind after interview day. Highly recommend checking it out if you're considering spending four years at Creighton

I recommend the Old Market. It is close to Creighton's campus, and it has a lot of cool shops, bars, and restaurants. It's also just a nice, pretty place to walk around. I also recommend the pedestrian bridge over the Missouri River. It's a nice little walk. Depending upon how much time and how much energy you have, the Henry Doorly Zoo is a 5-10 minute drive from Creighton's campus, and it is a very nice zoo.

Question for any current CU medical students: are medical students eligible to sit in the student section at basketball games?

Just received an II as well!

On a side, how are people calculating LizzyM these days? Mcat + gpa*10, (Mcat + gpa*10) -1, etc?

If you really wanted to fly out at 5 pm, I wouldn't think it would be any problem. Nobody will care (or probably even remember) if you have to leave to catch a flight, especially if it is because Creighton is running behind. And, unless there is a change this year to how things are done, the last thing to happen is a tour of the college campus. Which is mostly a tour of stuff that you would have access to that is located on the undergrad campus, so you wouldn't miss out on anything important if you have to take off. Just my 2 cents

Looking for an opinion here. I have letters of recommendation from two science professors and a doctor I work with. All of my non-science courses have been large gen ed courses (greater than 200 students) and as an engineering major I never really had time to go to their office hours. Is it even worth trying to email some of these professors to get a generic letter of recommendation to meet the requirement?

For what it's worth I think the letters I already have are pretty strong. OOS applicant with 3.9 GPA, 32 MCAT.

You could email Creighton and ask if your letters are okay.

ahhh this is killing me! come on Creighton please recognize me!

First II! Interviewing Sept. 4th!
When did you get the interview invitation? I got one last Friday, but the earliest date available was September 26. My classes start September 14 and moving it up would make things a little less hectic.

Ya I got the invite on Friday too! Idk I scheduled it a few hours after I got the email so maybe the spots just filled up quickly or something.

From last year's thread, it looks like Creighton only sends out invites one day each month so the next time will not be until September

the required courses are confusing me.

Psych major, only took gen bio I and gen bio II....so I don't have an advanced level physio, but my gen bio II was heavy on physio...think it might be in the title actually. any chance this can count? they said you can email and get the course syllabus reviewed, just curious if anyone else had an experience with this. thanks 🙂

I don't have experience with this specifically but I did have to contact them to sort out a misunderstanding with my letters. I can tell you that they were responsive and polite, so don't be afraid of clarifying anything with them.

I'm fairly positive the physiology course should be an upper level biology course that requires Bio I/II as a pre-req. I did know some people, however, that fulfilled the requirement through a nursing physiology course so idk. My pre-med advisor has asked Creighton's admissions committee this question and that's what they said. But to be on the safe side, probably just give them a call 🙂

Anyone know the turnaround for emails? I have a question about a prereq as well and their instructions tell you to email the info not call.

anyone here know if they will consider acceptance if I've graduated, but haven't taken a physiology course? I've taken neurophysiology, but don't know if that would count. I'd obviously take a physiology course in the spring somewhere if I was accepted here.

I have not looked at this with Creighton specifically, but the case with every school that I have seen is that these prereqs just need to be completed before matriculation. You don't necessarily need to have them completed before applying

This school is high on my list. Hoping for an interview in the coming months!

Submitted AMCAS June 2nd, but added Creighton July 23rd (so I had everything verified/submitted already to AMCAS for a while)
Secondary received July 24th
Secondary complete and submitted July 24th
Email confirming my file was complete July 27th
II sent August 7th (glad I added Creighton!)

Best Wishes

Got the email confirming my file was complete on August 13th. Seems I have some more time before they get to my app?
I got it 7/28 and it looks like they haven't gotten to mine yet, either. Rumor has it they only do II once a month, so wait til the first week of Sept.
