2015-2016 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ah, thanks… I've been anxiously waiting, but was complete early Sept, so I guess I shouldn't be getting too impatient yet… Congratulations again!

when are they scheduling those with new IIs for interviews? congrats!

Does anyone know the numbers Dartmouth interviews, admits, matriculated?

And yes, three early December dates were offered.

I'm interviewing soon. Any suggestions for hotels within walking distance of the interview location.
Are cabs easy to get in Hanover ?
Thanks

In my acceptance packet, they said there were over 7000 completed applications. Class size is staying at 90, 5 of which are MD PhD

congratulations 🙂 when were you complete?/ do you mind sharing your stats?

Complete 7/29. My stats are on the previous page in this thread...numerically pretty mediocre (by SDN standards anyway), but I'm a non-trad with experiences that seemed to mesh well with Dartmouth so I took a chance (YOLO).

Is Dartmouth receptive to pre ii letter of interests?

I'm curious about this as well - why do you think/know they are?

Because I used one, and I was accepted. One or two things in my update letter were discussed during my interviews. I wouldn't lie to you guys lol

Edit: I would recommend that if you're sending an update letter, it should have some beef to it. E.g., I wouldn't recommend sending updates on more volunteer hours or anything that doesn't add to the themes represented in your application.

Ohh, I see… Do you think they would consider a letter of interest that isn't really an "update", per se? (I don't have new grades to report or anything earth shattering, just continuation of clinical exposure, etc…).

Really dying for an interview here.

I personally wouldn't send a letter of interest unless you're on a waitlist at that school, according to multiple ADCOMs that have posted on SDN about that. If I were in your shoes, I'd begin a new significant activity or accomplish something significant at one of your current duties. Just my two cents, but I really hope it helps.

There's two of you use google maps. I'm staying at six south at hotel. But damn both options were expensive >.<

^This.

Make sure you have a reason to be contacting them. When you do, it is then appropriate to add a short "why Dartmouth" paragraph since they didn't ask for one in the secondary. Bonus points if you can relate your update to why you're a good fit.

The two Hanover hotels are very expensive so I recommend staying at one of the Lebanon hotels that operates a courtesy shuttle to get you to/from campus (and also the Dartmouth coach station if you're traveling through Logan). I know that the courtyard and element offer this service (these hotels are 120-130 instead of 190+, still pricey but more affordable) and it was verrrry helpful since apparently cabs can be hard to come by in a timely manner.

I stayed at the Sunset Motor Inn in West Lebanon. It was only a 10min drive (so you would probably need to take a cab) and ~$85/night (including taxes and such)

If anyone is interviewing on 12/10 and staying in Lebanon, I'll have a rental car with me. We can probably coordinate a ride to campus if you need one.

I stayed in White River Junction at the Hotel Coolidge. Kind of a run down town and super old hotel, but it was something like $85 per night and the free advance transit bus service has a stop right outside the door (which is very easy to use; about a 20 min ride to campus). Alternatively, you can take a 10 min cab. I hear they also have hostel options for super cheap, though they don't advertise them. Even though the hotel was older, it was kind of charming in a way.

There are also student hosts to reach out to that might be able to have you for the night before.

Anyone know the relative weight of the interview in the Dartmouth admission process?

This is not specific to Dartmouth, but there is an AAMC survey study distributed to over 110 US med schools that finds interview recommendation, LORs, and GPA (in that order) to be the 3 most important factors for admission post-interview. Personal statement was weighted as much as MCAT score. In general, academic qualifications basically take a backseat to evaluations of character.

Probably the closest we'll get to hard data on the matter.

Agree this seems the trend. Just wondering if anyone has specific info for Dartmouth.

Good, cuz I've been burned wayy too many times already this cycle.

3 times isn't "being burned way too many times". You've had one post-interview rejection, a waitlist, and a hold. Plenty of people have experienced far worse than you for far less justified reasons and you're nothing special. If you think this is "being burnt way too many times", I have sincere doubts in your ability to handle medicine because you're going to get burnt far worse every day and patients won't hesitate to absolutely trash you. Based off of your post history and general attitude, you're the kind of person who was dismissive to people going through this cycle before you experienced it because you're just a know-it-all. Now you're finally experiencing how AWFUL this process is for yourself, and it's about time the realization hit you.

I'm going to give you the best possible advice you can ever get in this life: Fix your personality. You have an absolutely obnoxious bossy, noxious know-it-all attitude, which is a giant facade for your insecurities and need for validation. Based off of your mcat scores and GPA alone, most people would have been accepted 10 times over, but since you haven't it's obvious your interpersonal skills are the issue.

Protip: Add some DOs and do some serious self-reflecting.

Makes SDN profile, first post is to ream me out over a joke I made so long ago it's not even on this page...and it's my personality that needs work.
:laugh::roflcopter::smack:🤣

No! Do you not know anything about football? This was the first post/foul, and it was severe enough for an immediate sending off. Straight red. A yellow card (should be two yellows, then red) is for a lesser offense. So ignorant. 🙄

😛

🙁 now time to read the football rules

just clarifying - complete 8/6...i shouldn't be expecting to hear anything soon right since they're still looking at july people?

It's only a joke because you got caught with your pants down and are now desperately trying to save face online. That's awfully cute but unfortunately for you that won't work in interviews but you should know that if you're half as smart as pretend to be. You're lackluster interview performance should serve as a warning sign to you about your **** personality, but hey if you can't take the hint from me I hope you enjoy seeing the cycle get far worse for you until you figure it out.

Hide all you want but your need to post a minute after I do makes your insecurities transparent translucent. Plus You're so incredibly desperate for validation you posted stuff like "loving it when people call you slut" online. We both know that never happened and you're just posting that online so you can feel good about yourself, as you're a frumpy wall flower who Almost no guy has ever noticed and the ones who did were promptly turned off by your rancid personality.
Drop the facades

Get a clue or you're going to get burned a lot more.
Ouch. Watch out people, if your phone gets SDN notifications it's a sign of your desperate need for validation.

reported you. happy thanksgiving
No point...this isn't their original username, and it won't be their last. This person pops up every so often and blasts me. I should have just posted a warning to people instead of responding to them, but honestly sometimes I can't help it. Sorry for the thread derailment.

Quoting so it doesn't get buried in this other nonsense.

Unfortunately, I can't give you much beyond: this process is entirely nonlinear. No news is good news until the cycle is over. It is perfectly normal for you to go months without hearing back from them, but you never know! The only thing you shouldn't do at this point is worry...it's no use and it's too soon!

That's seriously creepy. Do u know them in real life or something? If they're targeting u, change your username!! 🙁
