2015-2016 Hofstra University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know what room/building we meet for interview day? I couldn't find anything on the portal/website. Is it just at the entrance of the Hofstra School of Medicine building?

Does Hofstra send out rejections or are applicants just under review until the end of the cycle? Complete 8/7 here so pretty sure I got passed over, just not sure if it's a silent rejection or if I'm up for future reconsideration.

Complete end of July and nothing but silence! Congrats for those receiving II

My second II! So excited! LizzyM 73, complete 8/15. I'm a little disheartened that the only dates are in December/January...that seems like such a long time away. Really regretting not applying earlier now.

It is a long wait, but hey at least this underlined bit in the invite email stands:

"please note that interviewing earlier in the season has no effect on your chances of acceptance."

II today. Complete 8/1. I noticed that the only available dates are in January and that there are only 7 of them. Given that IIs will still be going out for a while, isn't this a bit crazy? I expected to be able to select a date in at least October.

Complete July 20th here, in the same boat. Sucks, this seems like a great school.

Doesn't sound like this school sends out rejects either. Hoping we all have the same reviewer and they just haven't got to us yet. Or we were just silently rejected. Seems like few schools go about this in a linear fashion, so still have a bit of hope. Good luck!

If you look at Hofstra's app thread from previous years, there were many applicants still receiving II's around November and throughout December. A good chunk of them got acceptances too. So don't worry too much about it guys! There's still a lot of time left.

Thanks for providing me with a burst of optimism!

Anyone headed to Long Island tonight be careful; bad storms in the area. I'm in Delaware sitting in very heavy rain and the forecast is calling for the same through the evening.

Had my interview here yesterday and it was amazing! The whole day was very relaxed and your two interviewers really try to make you feel comfortable. Brand spankin' new facility with passionate faculty and staff, and all the students seemed very happy. I am in love with this school and would be so happy to receive an acceptance.

I would definitely say stay with a host if you can. I was able to stay with a group of 3 MS2s and they answered all of my questions. Good luck to all those with upcoming interviews :biglove:

Did your hosts live on or off campus? Appreciate you taking the time to fill us in on your interview!

Off-campus! They mentioned that most students tend to live off campus, usually a 15 minute drive or so away. My host kindly offered to drop me off at the interview the morning of since she had class anyway. I'm happy to answer any other questions 🙂

How did you guys find hosts to stay with? Is there like a directory of hosts or something?

No, once you receive your interview there is an option on the portal for you to indicate you are interested in being paired with a host. You select that you are, and then Hofstra pairs you with a host.

Never saw this... Now I got a nonrefundable reservation at a hotel lol.

Anyone know how they react to 'in the area for interview' emails?

Did anyone who interviewed here already use the thank you letter upload feature on the portal? I wanted to send thank you notes to both my interviewers and was just curious if people uploaded pdf files to the portal to do that.

Hey guys, received an II awhile back (OOS, LizzyM 72) and was wondering where you saw the option for Student Hosts? When I log onto my interview tab, all it talks about is hotel accommodations. Thanks!

How is it possible that interviewing later won't hurt your chances if it is rolling admission????? II today but Only 5 dates in Jan available. A little discouraged

And a lot of (non-SDN, or SDN people) people are still submitting things now... which means they will have 1, 2, or 3 months before they hear if they have an interview, let alone go on the interview. Rather than compare yourself to people that got the first invites, realize there's still plenty of time.

how about someone post on this thread if they see available dates open up throughout the cycle? 😉

I just got an II here after being complete since mid July! There are currently 3 dates available in late January. The II email says interviews are through January and also that date of interview does not affect chances of admission...but the website says admissions are rolling, which is kind of confusing. First acceptances are not offered until mid December so perhaps they intentionally leave a lot of seats open for the next couple months for the remaining interviewees...

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing stats. I was also complete mid Julyish and have heard nothing. My stats suck though.

I'm OOS, LizzyM 72-73 (deadly combo of mediocre GPA/killer MCAT). I think those of us with lower GPAs might've been lower priority for review but that's pure speculation! Since it's still pretty early in the cycle and it looks like there aren't many interview slots left, so I wonder if they will add more either post-January or squeeze a few more interviews in late fall/early winter.

I doubt they can be out of interview slots. It's only September and I thought deadlines for schools are in December?

Although when I got my WVU interview 2 weeks ago there was only 200 of 800 slots left. Seems weird though
