Anyone have any interview tips?! I'm interviewing on Monday and am pretty nervous! :/

I LOVED Hofstra (like really loved them)! You have nothing to worry about as it was a low stress day. I was really fortunate to have a student host who gave me a lot of information about the school beforehand which put my mind at ease. They also took me to the school since their classes started at the same time as my interview, so that worked out great, but I would definitely recommend getting there early because the school seemed like it would be hard to find without prior knowledge. I set student hosting up when there was an option under the interview tab, but it sounds like this option is no longer there.

Interviews will be in the morning (2 ~25 minute interviews) after a quick introduction to the school. I heard rumors that the approach may be "good cop, bad cop" but both of my interviewers were really great and personable. Things that may be helpful to know beforehand: 1. Breakfast includes cereal bars and fruit (may be helpful to eat something more substantive beforehand). 2. Know how/why PEARLS is central to their curriculum. 3. You will have so so much time to ask students questions throughout the day - have questions handy. 4. The students and staff are great so there is nothing to be nervous about. 5. If you have another top choice, they will give them a run for their money!

Thank you so much for this great info! I don't interview until January but I'm sure the tips will be valuable then as well 🙂

Ouch, I honestly thought I replied to this, but it seems I only mentally did 🙁 Hopefully your interview went fine! But for others:

I really enjoyed my Hofstra interview. It really seemed every interviewer was eager to meet their interviewees and really saw them as great applicants. My two interviewers were great. They really tried their best to make sure I was stress free. They wanted it to be really conversational, providing guiding questions to really allow me to have great responses. That being said, the questions were definitely more behavioral oriented, so do practice those: 1. Tell me about a time you had to deal with someone difficult 2. Tell me the best idea you had 3. Tell a time where a decision you made questioned your ethics 4. Tell me about a decision you regret 5. Why Hofstra (vaguely)

I would say definitely look over other possible behavioral questions online and know your activities. They definitely look over your app in detail, mine asked about my family size and parents occupation out of the blue

But really, I loved Hofstra for the fact that the interviewers seemed like they really cared and really wanted to get to know me. It made the interview so much more enjoyable.

Has anyone scheduled/rescheduled an interview here recently? If so, what were the earliest dates available? Thanks!

Me: sees Hofstra at top:that's my favorite school! Are they interviewing....no?.... oh.

Hofstra has been historically slow with their decision releases. I wouldn't be surprised if none of us received a decision until at least November

Hofstra said during our interview day that they on purpose take their time to put together a medical school class and to not expect to hear back from them until at least mid-November.

That being said it seems so far away and would love to hear back soon.

Hofstra just offered me an interview. My dream school!
I can't breathe.

Breathe!!! Congrats!! I hear awesome things about Hofstra! Hence I really want some love from them.

When were you complete? Stats? What dates are offered for interviews?

Just got an II this morning, however no interview dates are available... 😵

I got an interview this morning too.
Check January 21st. It was the only date available for me...but it is possible that I filled up one of the last interview spots on that day...in which case, my bad.

(also keep in mind you need to click the year first, and then the month, when choosing an interview date. so for example, click 2016 in the top right, then click january and there should be a white box that says "MD Interview available" or something along those lines)

Congrats! 🙂 When were you guys complete?

Yay!

Stupidly enough, I keep checking this thread to see if anyone gets II's.
I just want to see other people happy.

Edit: there are still II spots. My date was January 29th.

I received my II earlier in the cycle and scheduled it for December 11... pending some decisions coming out later this month/early next month, I may withdraw my application.

I'm a little hesitant that being said since I've heard this school sometimes gives out some nice financial aid packages...

please let us know if you withdraw that II

Can we reschedule interviews here?

Snow gets really bad in my neck of the woods and I would love an earlier II date....

What kind of student qualifies? Is it stat based? If someone pays me to go to medical school I'll suck their weiners let along apply.

From what I heard, it was a mix of need/merit (stats) based scholarships.

Hello! I have an interview for Hofstra this week. I'm really excited! From what I can tell, it's an incredible school.

For current students/those who interviewed, any tips?? 🙂
What was the interview day like for you guys?

There were two separate interviewers, one good cop, and one bad cop. The hard interviewer really grilled me on my motivation to become a doctor. Though not everyone appeared to have the good cop/bad cop setup, I'd advise you to be ready for it. Particularly be ready for the fact that there's literally nothing you can say that will appease the bad cop. In retrospect, I wish I had done more to acknowledge the points being made instead of just sticking to my guns. Only time will tell how it actually went.

That said, the school seems like a great place and I'd be honored to go there.

I feel like I may have been good cop-bad copped in mine as well. Or could be the second interviewer just didn't like me, who knows, heh 🙂 We'll see, I suppose.

does anyone know what percent of interviewees are accepted? they interview a lot of people and have such a small class size. I really hope they don't reject like 80% of applicants post interview

I doubt Hofstra or any school does this it wouldnt make much sense. That being said not sure how many are accepted but ive heard schools accept at least 2-3 per spot

Not sure on the exact numbers...somebody posted it earlier on this thread, but I couldn't find it. Basically, they said a lot of people tend to say no to hofstra and that's why they interview so much. Their reasoning was because it's a mid-tier school. So higher-stat applicants that get accepted go to higher ranking schools and other people choose their state school because it's cheaper.

Hey all! Recently interviewed at Hofstra, it was an incredible experience. Everyone was friendly, it was low stress, and they show you this awesome documentary that explains a lot about Hofstra's curriculum and mission statement.

For any current students at Hofstra, i was wondering: do you know if any other school is attempting a curriculum like PEARLS? Or is it truly unique to Hofstra?
Thanks!

Finally November. When do you think we'll hear back?

Sorry, this might have been asked but does anyone know how often the interview each week and about how many interviewees per? Thanks!

There were ~20 interviewees at our interview date

Haha I'm pretty sure we had the same interviewer. I was asked all of those behavioral questions

My interviewer whipped out a sheet and straight up told me they had to ask a certain set of questions, so I think it's just standardized...

Ahh I see. That's reassuring. There were so many awkward pauses during mine as the interviewer was jotting down my answers lol

Exact same for mine. Like i'd say something about myself that was like mad normal like "i have parents and a sister and..." and they would nod and write something down

Does Hofstra hold applications? Or are the only status updates a rejection or II?
