2015-2016 Johns Hopkins University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone get a SUPER delayed confirmation of complete application from JHU? Just received mine 20 minutes ago; I had all of my letters in as well as my secondary by July 15th. Pretty frustrating. My primary was processed mid June.
Was about to comment on that, yeah just got the email confirmation but mine was marked as complete on the portal end of July. Idk maybe they send out the complete emails every so often regardless of which date you were specifically marked as processed.

Okay, I was very certain that my application had been completed (per the status of my portal) for quite some time as well. That makes me feel better!

Idk maybe this is just me but how does JHU expect us to write about a challenge, how we overcame it, the lessons we learned, and impact on future medical career all in just 900 characters??? :arghh::arghh::arghh:

Even worse, UCLA expects you to do it in 800 characters!

I mean, they're basically asking for a bad or incomplete answer so they're gonna get one. lol

Yeah I felt like all the other challenge essays were sufficiently long enough for me to get my point across. 900 c barely gives you any ability to introduce the situation, let alone tell what you learned

guys, I submitted my secondary on 7/7 @ 10:55am and it still isn't marked as complete🙁 anyone else in my boat or should I call or something?

When I called they advised just waiting it out but I was eventually completed last week.

I submitted mine on 7/6 and I got the complete email on 8/4. So you guys' wait times seem pretty normal, if that eases your anxiety a bit haha
Also, check the actual portal. Mine was marked complete on 7/21 (submitted 7/8) but I never got an email.

my portal only says submitted :/

Yeah I got an email about completion about a week after it was marked as such on the portal (or maybe half a week haha, too lazy to check my spreadsheet).

And @FutureBenCarson you can call them if you want but they will probably give the "be patient" response they gave me. They noted that the order isn't exactly sequential, i.e. the order that one student put stuff in does not dictate how they will be marked as complete compared to one another.

Same thing goes for many IIs at a lot of schools it seems! The obsession over being complete a week earlier than others is truly unfounded haha

makes me retrospectively go "well should I have taken longer on my primary?" before my conscience goes "NO, YOU SPENT ENOUGH TIME ON THE DARN THING"

Not so much the primary but I mean the ridiculous OMG NEED TO WRITE SECONDARIES IN 2 WEEKS mentality
Don't drag that **** out, but don't submit crap

Thanks!! 🙂

Sorry for the noob question...what's a II? I keep seeing it everywhere on SDN.

Anyone else submit on 7/7, primary verified in early June, and still not get marked complete?

When were you all with II's complete? And congrats!
II last week, got an email saying I was complete 7/30, but my portal said I was complete June 17th. My letters and everything were sent June 13th.

II as well.

Quick question for others with II's, is your app portal showing an interview tab or did you just get the email?

I just received an email but I can't seem to find anywhere on the app portal to verify the interview date. Should I just verify via email?

---

As for my stats / AMCAS process:

Verified prior to July 1st, Hopkins secondary received July 5th, complete July 8th. Received an email last week (not sure the date) saying my application was complete, II received today.

I'm a non-trad, college cGPA 3.72, college sGPA 3.64, 31 MCAT - including a 14 VR, postgrad cGPA 4.0.

Strong leadership and clinical ECs (450 hours of direct patient interaction and was able to scrub in on cases in 8 different surgical specialties)
Average community service ECs
Average research ECs

Non-diverse background (white male, father is a physician).

Hope others find that helpful! Good luck everyone and congrats to those receiving IIs!

There's no interview tab on the portal. Email Beverly Kail (her email is included in your II) to verify your attendance on the date they specified.

Congratulations to you and everyone reporting IIs today!!!! So happy for all of you. Thank you also for sharing all of this information. Good luck to everyone else waiting! 🙂

Congrats to everyone getting a II! I only just got my "complete" email this morning =/, which fits the month turnaround everyone seems to be experiencing (I was complete mid July). On a different note, did anyone else find that, when they tried to log back into the secondary portal, that their secondary app was marked as "not started?" Obviously this is a non-issue, since I am complete and under review, but its still pretty weird.

EDIT: nevermind, I forgot I had to change my password and so I have more than one PIN (which is also weird).

Hey guys, for the adversity question did you talk about a personal experience or a professional one?

Congrats to everyone getting invites. If you haven't gotten one, or see people complete before you that did - don't worry. You definitely may not get one, but plenty of people get invited later in the year and many of us matriculated. Plenty of people who are complete before also get invited after. So try to be patient.

Just received a II! Secondary received 06/07, Submitted 13/07, complete 30/07. Frankly I was extremely surprised. Are they known to interview many more applicants than other schools?

I submitted the secondary on the 13th and received a "completed" e-mail on the 30th. Sorry for the confusion.

lol are you an international student? Americans get so confused at the day first, month second thing.
