Can any current students comment on what type of computer they think works best at MCW? Particularly, are there any current MCW-GB students who can speak to the tech requirements for the broadcasting of lectures?

Well, I can tell you that the tech requirements from the school set the bar pretty high. I got a 2014 128 GB Macbook Pro before classes started, and then when we got our computers verified by the tech people in Milwaukee, they told me I didn't have enough hard drive space. They folded, eventually... but for a while I was nervous they weren't going to verify my computer. It hasn't been a problem.

They install office 360 for free, so Mac or Windows, totally fine. You just want something that starts up quickly and doesn't have buggy issues. In the middle of lecture is NOT the time to have your computer start behaving badly. I've been very happy with the stability of my Mac.

As for streaming the lectures, I assume you mean if you're livestreaming from off campus or watching the lecture later? In class, you don't have to worry about the streaming. Anything other than that... if you can watch youtube/netflix, you'll be fine. Livestreaming or watching the lecture later sometimes has problems, but it's a delivery problem, not a computer problem.

II yesterday. OOS - complete in November. Dates available were 2/12; 2/18 ; 2/19.
Question for those that have interviewed recently ... any word on whether interviews this late in the cycle are strictly for the waitlist ?
Thanks !

In the email, it should say if you are interviewing for a spot in the incoming class. Additionally, when I spoke with someone from admissions recently, they said that their class was a little over half way filled.

I saw some other schools have a one time computer expense built into the budget you have to request. If they are requiring IPads, I'm assuming this is outside the budget they gave us?

iPad is required I heard on interview day?
I believe they are:
For our requirement this year, our iPads just needed to have a minimum of 32GB space and be of the 3rd and 4th generation (retina models) and higher. So any iPad air is definitely fine. You could get an iPad mini too (if you don't mind the small size).

Not too sure on that, I have a feeling something like this could be added into the budget without much problem. You can always call the FA office!

Oh really?! Ahh that gives me hope! How awesome that they are that transparent. You just asked them on the phone and they told you? I think last year they started interviewing for the waitlist around this time.. so perhaps they are a little behind this year. 🙂

When did you get the invite? Also, what dates did they give you to choose from?

As of last week I believe 2/12, 2/18 and 2/19 were open. I'm debating whether to go as well bc I'm out of vacation days at work.

Congratulations !!
If I wasn't sure about the interview , I would Pass on, so some other worthy candidate will get that opportunity.
thank you! I chose 2/19, but I'm going to make a definitive decision by this Thursday so that someone else has enough time to make arrangements!

I really like the city and the program, but I got a recent acceptance to one of my top choices. Therefore, I'm trying to decide if the decreased cost of MCW would be enough of a factor to sway my eventual decision.

There's always FA packages to consider too. I would go if traveling isn't an issue for you

Are they calling or emailing IIs? I missed a call this morning from a 414 area code number that I did not recognize...

Quite late to post this but... Accepted at Milwaukee!
Seeing this is as my only MD acceptance and so late in the cycle, I began to lose hope.
I feel more than blessed to be given an opportunity to attend this amazing school.
Congrats!!! Would you mind telling me what you liked the most about the program? Most of the website was under construction when I applied in July and I feel like I'm going into my upcoming interview blind.

Some of the things I liked:
1) The large class size, about 250 students.
2) Location was close to home and close to downtown Milwaukee.
3) Emphasis on research through Scholarly Pathways Program.
4) Although it is private, they provide assistance to WI Residents.
5) Large school with modern technological equipment and a highly experienced faculty.
6) Connected with some of the best hospitals in the nation (Best Children's Hospital in America).
7) The discovery curriculum is organized in a logical manner, emphasizing each system at a time.
8) Lots of resources and services available for board prep and tutoring.

Overall, a great school in my opinion. I can't wait to attend as this is easily my top choice.

Any idea how many OOS applications they receive and how many are offered IIs? I know their class is about 50% OOs and 50% IS.

Has anyone who interviewed jan 22 at milwaukee and was accepted receive their offer in the mail?

II earlier today! Torn though because it's so last-minute to get work off (2/18 and 2/19 were offered) and the plane tickets are so expensive (even to fly into Chicago). If I end up withdrawing, I hope it goes to one of you!

Congrats!! mind sharing your stats? IS or OOS? I am still waiting for a II from here.
Thanks !

Received an II this afternoon (OOS). Will not be attending; really wish I heard from MCW sooner though. Complete way back on July 2nd. I really hope this goes to someone that is in desperate need of an interview. Good luck future colleagues

I would love this interview. Did they call or email?

Also, am I just interviewing for the waitlist? It wasn't mentioned in the email.

There are student hosts. Pick that option when you confirm your date. And if they didn't mention it, then you're not.

Thanks! What is the format of the interview?
I will be interviewing this week so I do not know first hand, but have heard it is 2 one on one interviews about 30 minutes long and open file. Some people have a third interview as well. Usually one is with a professor/doctor and one with a current student.
There is an informal dinner the night before that you meet your host at if you select that option.
Congrats! Please correct me if anyone knows more than me.
Maybe we will be interviewing on the same day. Best of luck!

Yup that's correct. Third interview is rare, happens only if the two interviewers can't agree on you.

I interviewed recently and had two faculty member interviewers, but most people have one current student and one faculty member. Both interviewers had read my entire file and the interviews lasted ~ 30 minutes each.
