I interviewed October and I have also not heard anything, so you are not alone. Did your friend get an email or snail mail, do you know?

Good to know I'm not the only one in the October-never-heard-back boat! I feel your agony of uncertainty.

I'm just wondering, did u ever try calling/emailing admissions and inquiring about your status?

I have not, I got the MD-only acceptance call in December with a "the MSTP committee will get back to you later." I sort of figured they'd get around to me after the February interviews, but apparently not...?

Does Stanford reject post-interview?

I interviewed Feb 6 and still have not heard back...Given that second look is in two weeks, I'm becoming more pessimistic about the silence.

Dear Stanford,
We really really want to come to 2nd look, so please accept us before then.
Thanks!!!!!

**Here's to hoping someone out there hears us**

So since today was the match day, does anyone know where we can find the match list for SMS students and how well they usually do (ie match to their 1st choice)?
Also would going to SMS benefit you when you're applying for residency there?

Anyone know when we can expect financial aid decisions to come out?

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/20...-subsidized-housing-under-new-palo-alto-plan/

Posting this so people are aware how horrible housing situation is around Stanford area and why 1000-1500 housing is a great deal.

I get this. It is absolutely a great deal. But the way I see it, even though Stanford housing is competitive with the surrounding area, as a medical school applicant, that's not the competition I care about. The comparison should be with the cost of living I would have at other schools, in which case 1000-1500 is on the upper end.

Are they more expensive than their peers in top 10?

From the ones I looked into, Vanderbilt Hall at HMS is around $800 a month (though it is a dorm), St. Louis is way cheaper, Columbia's Bard Hall is 850-1000 (also dorm). Either way, my point was not that Stanford's housing is necessarily going to be prohibitively expensive, but that I think it's more wise to compare to other schools rather than the surrounding area.

I am not sure that is always the case though since colleges can't rent housing from external parties and subsidize it to meet some arbitrary number to compare themselves to other schools. There is a certain charge for their own housing which is comparable to what the undergraduates are being charged (they don't really care about other medical schools for that, only what they charge other students) and when they need to lease external housing from other sources, they need to spend a lot more money in order to subsidize it.

In the grand scheme of things, if someone does not go to Stanford med because their housing costs an extra 2-5k, then Stanford most likely does not care about it. They are admitting 120 students to medical school while they are most likely admitting 3000+ (undergrad, grad, MBA, Law) students when they put together all the other schools in the system. So if someone wants to protest the housing cost, there are always 5 others ready to take that spot.

To those still awaiting decisions...has anyone heard anything from Stanford recently? I called but was only able to leave a voicemail.

Do you guys know about how many people usually come for the admit weekend, and do people usually have a positive experience?
Thanks! - not really sure what to expect XD

Sorry to distract from the main forum topic, but I just wanted to run a question by the current students that might be on here.

Another applicant I know applied to Stanford Med this year, and got rejected pre-interview, but was somehow invited for an interview out of the blue just as the season was ending. The invite email even said something along the lines of "we know we said previously that we would not offer you an interview...". He was just recently accepted. From everyone I've spoken to at Stanford (and everywhere else, actually), this is completely unheard of. Can any current students or other Stanford-affiliated people shed light on this? It doesn't seem totally above-board, and frankly I'm surprised Stanford would do something like that.

*Edit: To clarify, this person has faculty connections at Stanford (from undergrad). I'm still concerned that this is shady, though, because he was already rejected pre-interview (evidently for not being a strong enough candidate), and then "un-rejected".

Lies. A hurt ego will make people say anything. The only way you'll know it's true is if s/he actually goes and attends SMS. Expect this person to say they'll "turn down" Stanford for whatever reason before August.

That being said, this topic doesn't warrant more replies here, lest you annoy people who are anxiously waiting decisions.

How about just casual-casual? Or do I need to go quickly buy a pair of khakis? oops
Did you get the email from the coordinators yesterday? I think it listed the dress code. If your shirt has a collar (for dudes) you should be fine I would guess.

Very quiet here...how was second look, everyone? How were the events? Was the video parody as good as last year's? Any cute guys? Were there hot chicks? Anything new we waitlisters should know? 😀

I didn't go (declined) but I heard that the parties were good :zip:Always a good sign! Good luck with the waitlist, should be some movement soon I'd think.

I wonder how many folks in the current class came off the wait-list--I suspect barely any... For what it's worth, someone I met at a preview I attended recently mentioned that a friend of his was accepted off that list last year; apparently he was given 2-3 days to decide, so one has to be pretty much ready to decide on the spot. So it does happen...
I wonder though whether on-campus housing is guaranteed for all students: i'd imagine it'd be a nightmare to find a place if someone heard back in say, July.

I think waitlist movement is in the single digits, chances a bit worse now that they seem to waitlist everyone that they don't accept post-interview.

Has anyone tried calling the office about the waitlist status/timeline? Is it tiered? While there may be little movement compared to other schools as some have posted, one would expect at least a little movement given deferments and not wanting to over enroll.

Waitlist is not tiered. They look at what kind of student they're missing and choose accordingly. Movement should be in mid-May and beyond

And I do think some folks were rejected post interview as per previous posts.

Does Stanford match any other aid packages from other places? From what I recall during the fin-aid presentation, it appears that their fin-aid is first-come-first-served, so all the "decent" packages might be gone by this point? Then there's the housing thing too...At any rate, while the odds of getting off the list are low to begin with, I think it would nonetheless be beneficial to hear the experiences of any current students who got in off the wait-list, as relates to the above factors: I mean if one got the call, there would be so little time to make a decision; best to be fully prepared, just in case.

This request has been made before and apparently nobody on here got off the WL last year. In any case, it's really not difficult if you get the offer. 1) Do you want Stanford over your current school, 2) How much aid are they giving you (schools usually tell you this before you have to make a decision), 3) Figure out housing after you accept the offer. You will figure it out like everyone else does. Palo Alto is expensive anyway, doesn't really matter how early or late you start looking and it's not like you have a choice.

IIRC they don't match the offers of other schools, but they have really good need-based aid.

And I met someone who got pulled off the waitlist at my interview day and they had to scramble to get housing, but managed to find something reasonable (off-campus though)

I see. Thanks for the info, @padfootmd ...The "scramble" to get housing was something that I was afraid of/suspected. Any way, c'est la vie. Will PM you too .

So I guess we shouldn't hold our breaths.
Wow, only two people... that doesn't bode well. This cycle did seem to be a bit different than last year with interviews ending earlier in the season. Was the class last year over admitted as it had been a few years prior?

Stanford's matriculation rate last year was 46% (coming from an admissions officer I spoke with), so there must have been more than 2 people who got off the waitlist
