2015-2016 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It sounds about right timing. It took them 18 days to give me an II.

Whoever did not get an II and submitted in July don't get your hopes up, as interview spots are almost full already (sorry for being a bummer).

Dude you are a bummer in like every thread lol! Weren't you the one that told me not to get excited about the WVU II?!

Stay hopeful, y'all! Tulane is not a silent rejection school, so it isn't over if you haven't received a rejection.

I prefer realist! lol

It hurts less if you don't have your hopes up!

I still believe theres a reason they haven't sent us rejections yet..
There were plenty of people last year that submitted in early July and didn't hear back until around now or later in August. They also had interviews open in November or December. I'm not sure what's going on with their interview slots right now, but I don't believe that any school is almost full on interviews because most applicants are only just submitting secondaries or haven't received them yet.

Aren't we still super early? How are their interview days so full already?
I think Tulane interviews from September to February, and they just gave a lot of interviews out really early in the process. If I remember correctly, all of the September and October dates were gone by late July.

I'd be really, really shocked if all interview slots were nearly filled. All of my application materials were submitted the first day secondaries went out and I have yet to get a decision on my application. If interviews are nearly all gone by the time my application gets a pair of eyes on it, that would be insane (Then again, this process is insane).

I'm in the same boat although I was complete around 7/15. If they are gonna reject me I'd rather know sooner than later. My thought is maybe those of us who haven't heard back but were complete pretty early might be on some informal "hold for re-review" but that's just speculation. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

There's a difference between being a realist for yourself and a dick to others.
I know this process sucks. Having high hopes with specific schools will likely make rejections hurt more, or at least that is what I read somewhere in this forum from a current medical student...

We should all be excited for opportunities such as a II no matter where they come from, but we also need to be aware of our chances (MSAR is your friend)

For the leadership list - did you all just list your leadership positions or did you give explanations too?

Same with hobbies? Did you two just list them or do a bit of explaining?

Rejected this morning. Complete on July 14th. Nontrad "reinvention" applicant. It's okay New Orleans, I still love you. 😛
Oh God...that's exactly my application too. It's coming!!

I live by "be pessimistic so you're never let down." Trust me. But I keep my pessimism to myself and don't freak people out by things like "interviews will be running out," because you are just another pre-med like myself who knows nothing absolut about the reviewing process, etc.

From one neurotic pessimist to another: may the odds be ever in your favor.

Why did ya'll want to go here? There's not much on their website besides the fact that they are in NOLA.

They just built a brand new state of the art medical center (university medical center) Tulane students will rotate through, a new VA center is being built (think it'll be done in 2016?), They are pass fail, they have PBL, they have the debake (spelling?) scholars program that pays you a stipend to do research, they have a renowned MD/MPh program (4 years), a 5 year Md-MBA program, a 4 year md/mba program, they have the learning kitchen where you can learn about nutrition and how to make healthy meals, and ofc ton of community service opportunities 🙂

do you think they will ever bring back charity hospital?

Unfortunately, the new university medical center was built to replace charity. After Katrina the city had a choice to rebuild charity or start from scratch - they chose to start from scratch. There's been a lot of debate on what to do with charity because it's literally the size of a city block, and city council is accepting proposals right now. Currently there's bids to turn it into part retail part research space or a mental institution.

Rejected by email today. Another one bites the dust.

Worry about your own high hopes and less about everyone else's lol. We've all looked at MSAR and are aware of our chances, which is why we're so excited when we receive an II. Telling other people not to be excited when they receive great news doesn't come off as helpful, it comes off as kind of nasty. Just my humble opinion 🙂

I don't think so- not in the near future at least. University is replacing Charity for all intents and purposes, and the Charity building would need to be basically demolished and re-built from the ground up. If you're coming for an interview and have a chance to check out University Hospital- I would strongly suggest doing so. Very, very impressive facility.

Hate waking up early Monday morning and seeing a Reject email 🙁
