2015-2016 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rejected today, complete either July or early August I forget. Good luck to everyone else still in the running!!

I know right now that silence is a good sign. However, silence at this point is a bit nerve wracking. I have been complete since 8/12.

Same here, I feel like if I look up, I can see the guillotine. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :xf:

I think my stats will give hope. 3.3 cGPA, 3.2sGPA, 31 mcat. Lots of volunteer hours. Good luck 🙂

I was also rejected this morning. I have felt the axe coming for a while. Good luck all who are still in the running.

Just canceled my interview for 12/4. How can I withdraw my application completely from Tulane? I don't see a withdraw option in the secondary portal.

I think simply canceling the interview withdraws your app.

Yup, never mind. I just got an email informing me that I have been withdrawn. Good luck to everyone else in this thread!

has any from mid-July not been rejected yet? I've complete since 7/18 and haven't heard a word

Yup, still sitting here since mid/late July. Probably good we haven't been rejected but I'm not getting my hopes up for Tulane.

Rejected today. Complete Aug 10. 3.7 cgpa, 3.7sgpa 31 MCAT (balanced).

Nothing yet from Tulane! I was hoping for something by now.

I have a discouraging, though anecdotal, tidbit an applicant from my interview today shared with me (she did a Masters at Tulane and is now working there during the application cycle). She had the most recent classes have been full of very, very young students, which is different compared to the wider age range from previous classes.

Can any MS3-MS4s confirm this?

I can't confirm that myself. But I'll be 36 on matriculation and Tulane accepted me, so their net can't be too narrow 😀

I don't know what you consider very, very young, but I've been out of school for a couple years and I met a girl who interviewed at Tulane who has been out for at least one year.

C/O 2019 (T1s) does have a younger average age than previous classes, but it's only about 1 year difference compared to 2018 and 2017 (I'm not sure about 2016). It wasn't on purpose. Just came out that way. Tulane still values non-traditional students, as evidenced by those accepted and invited to interview this cycle.

i interviewed on the 20th and the wait is killing me. they said they would get back to us within 2 weeks

stats of those accepted???

Interviewd september, accepted mid october.3.8cGPA 3.8sGPA 32 MCAT (2nd try, first one sucked) After the interview day, hanging out with the students and listening to admissions, this place is all about fit. Wide range of stats seem to be accepted.

 You're my inspiration!

I hit 30 at the end of September and have been the oldest interviewee at all my interviews thus far. I've also been the only one to wear a non black/blue/grey suit. The interview circuit needs more color, people!

And @Fastrada, I consider that quite young (really, anyone equal to or less than 24 shouldn't count as non-trad) but that's just because of my age 😉

I did my post-bacc with someone who was 23 and they said they were non-trad. I chucked (30 y/o also).

And, hell yeah to the colors. I was at one and every guy was in a black suit. All I could think was:

I'll be 32 in December. It wasn't a linear, nor an easy path but 'I took the road less traveled, and it has made all the difference.'

I don't know about you, but I have found life experience helpful in responding to secondaries. It was with some disappointment that the Tulane secondary was bland and banal.

It was helpful for some questions, no doubt about that, but most secondaries were painful to get through. After a while I copy-pasted a lot of it because they all asked the same thing. It's also disappointing when interview questions follow the same vein - really, asking me about a time when I had to work in a group and one person didn't contribute to our project? Questions like these remind me how uncommon it is for adcoms to interact with older applicants.

And don't get me started about schools using parents' income tax information to calculate your financial aid package :/

Not sure if anyone else had this interview experience, but I was absolutely grilled by my non-student interviewer -- looking back it was definitely a stress interview where I felt like nothing I said would help my cause. Really surprising experience given the positive comments I read on here about the interviews being very casual. I felt really good about my student interview, and about everything else, but I'm afraid that my one interview performance will sink me 🤔

Interviewed mid-October with no news yet.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't had a stress interview yet but it sounds painful... I completely understand if you don't want to go into too much detail but I'm curious to know what kinds of questions you were asked.

For what it's worth, I think it's probably impossible to know how you did in a stress interview. They're meant to be sort of uncomfortable. You probably did just fine!

I haven't interviewed here but I had a stress interview at another school..I left with the world's reddest face and completely doubted every single answer, but I ended up getting accepted Oct 15th. This is all soooo unpredictable and if I've learned everything it's that overthinking and worrying will only cause harm..easier said than done, but too true.

I totally had this experience here at Tulane & I have been accepted! I wouldn't worry too much... although it seems like you couldn't give a right answer, they were just playing devil's advocate and really digging deep into your motives. I'm sure you did great & will hear good news soon 🙂

Does anyone know about scholarships? I know that Tulane offers a few full tuition and a few partial tuition scholarships but I don't know how many or when information about those are sent out.
