2015-2016 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know if the ratio of acceptances from the final pool is different for IS versus OOS applicants?
Fewer are accepted OOS because they have given more acceptances OOS already. They have set amounts for each, including separate waitlists.

Thanks! That's what I figured but didn't remember them discussing it on interview day.

They mention that we will hear no later than March 15, but does that mean we probably won't hear anything till then? Or it could be any day now as they choose? And is it one big group of decisions or do they go applicant to applicant?

Last year they said no later than March 10, and everyone (or nearly everyone) heard on March 3.

If I remember correctly, the final pool review will take 5 weeks starting the 26th of Jan, until then no admission decisions will be released for final pool applicants.

Does anyone have any idea around what time events for the second look day will begin on the 15th and conclude on the 16th? I'm trying to make travel plans, but I'm not sure when to plan to arrive and leave.

email Amy, she's super nice

I just looked at the itinerary for the Get Acquainted Day, and I noticed that they mentioned our learning communities a few times. Have we already been placed into those, or will we find out which one we're in on Get Acquainted Day?

Did some research on the dates when the final pool decisions came out, it seems it ranges from 3/3 to 3/14 for the past 6 years.

2010: Thursday, March 11
2011: Tuesday, March 8
2012: Wednesday, March 7 (The above three were copied from Imwehr's post, thanks 🙂)
2013: March 12 (or 13?)
2014: March 12 (or 13?)
2015: March 3

"It is very important that you check your contact information at the Contact Update tab on your secondary and make any changes prior to March 8, 2016. The e-mail address displayed at the Contact Update tab is where we will notify you when the final decisions are made. We will not process address changes via AMCAS."

Here is the email from last year:

Was consistent with their release date.

My financial aid page shows my cost of attendance with a "College of Medicine Grant". Is this the need-based aid assigned by the office of financial aid (as opposed to merit-based aid from admissions)?

Did you get an email telling you that your financial aid had been updated?

I just checked mine. It shows estimated loans and the College of Medicine grant. I think the grant is need based, not merit. I don't currently have any merit based aid. I'm assuming they haven't given that out yet. I'm guessing that will be later on when they have an idea of who is actually going to be attending.

I can't find mine. I went in through ISIS and the financial aid page but the link is dead. Is there somewhere else you located this information?

Mine was on ISIS under student records and award notification.
I'm really hoping there is more aid coming.

Oh gosh, I just found mine and I hope there's more too

Edited for poor grammar

Thanks, that is what I figured. I do think some merit-based aid has been given out also. I am not sure to what amount and how many people they offer it though.

No email, I just was browsing and looked. Currently it says it went to the department for review, maybe that is where they add on any merit-based awards and then email you.

Oh, okay. Good to know.
I also noticed that the form on ISIS right now currently lists estimated values for grants, so nothing is set in stone. Those values can still change.

Just accepted to the Intro to Medical Education! Hopefully I'll see some of you in June

For those of you who got grants, are y'all in state or out of state?

OOS

Thanks for replying! I was thinking there would probably be more aid for OOS applicants than IS since the tuition is so much higher.

Coming down the home stretch. How's the pool treating you all?

Did you get an email? OOS and no email as of now. And my award letter online still shows estimated values 🙁

I did get an email telling me to log into ISIS. Don't know if it matters also that my fafsa was submitted like the second week of January. Good luck, I'm sure it's coming!

That might be why. I was a little bit later. February :/ Well congrats!
Do you mind me asking if the award letter also included merit based scholarships? Or is it all need based aid?
