Ah this gives me hope. I was waitlisted last year and wasn't sure if they'd give us another chance. Thanks for sharing, good luck!!II today!!! Complete date and LizzyM if you dont mind sharing?II on 09/25 🙂
I live about 1 hour from the school so it'll be a quick trip
How were the interviews, to those who have already been? Relaxed/conversational, hopefully 😕
Otherwise hope app cycle is going well for everyone. Still a loooooong way to go!
@mayo33, Maryland has no state mandate so admissions is residence-blind. The in-state/out-of-state classification is solely for financial aid. I read about it before and it was essentially confirmed at my II when the dean spoke about it.

Quick question for all of you fellow In-Staters: I've been having some issues with the Residency Classification form for a multitude of reasons (let's just say that I need to speak with my accountant but he's MIA...) and I haven't submitted it yet. I was complete 8/24 and am worried that my lack of In-State classification could be a contributing factor to no status update. Did you all submit your Residency forms before receiving IIs?? This is my top choice and I seriously hope delayed paperwork isn't the reason I don't get in... HAALP

Same. Not a fun feeling.Sorry to hear that. Best of luck with the rest of your cycle!
But also, this is terrifying. I can feel the axe coming...
Was there no change on the portal? When were you complete and did they send an email informing you?
I haven't heard a peep from them since submitting, so I'm not sure what to think.
Good luck with your other schools!
So they are sending rejections by mail pre-interview?Same. Not a fun feeling.

For anyone who has had an interview, when did you find out if you were in the morning or afternoon?

Is it too late to submit a secondary to a school like Maryland?
cGPA 3.69
sGPA 3.58
MCAT 511 (130/124/127/130)
Submit! Why the heck not! (The app fee sucks, but it doesn't suck as much as not taking a chance. And to be honest, the gunner mentality on SDN makes you feel like you're "too late" but don't stress about the gunners.)
@LucyG congratulations on the interview here! I hope you hear good news soon.
I have an interview at Maryland coming up soon and I was wondering if you could speak to the overall atmosphere/experience of the interview day?
Thanks!
I interviewed in late September, and the atmosphere is welcoming and (linguistically, at least) relaxed. You'll have a chance to mingle with current students over lunch, and the presentations are informative but not rigid. I would imagine the atmosphere will largely be dictated by the other candidates in your interview group, as well as with whom you have your interviews. Nothing to be afraid of, though - there were no surprises, and even though the interviews were a smidge on the rigorous side, like I said there are no surprise questions about the healthcare systems in Europe vs Africa or whatever.
Thanks and congrats on your interview as well!@LucyG congratulations on the interview here! I hope you hear good news soon.

The overall atmosphere was relaxed yet still professional and serious. However, the Admissions staff, deans, and current students made me feel very comfortable. The whole day was very organized and informative. There is both a financial aid and curriculum presentation, the latter being given by a dean, which I really liked because it shows that the school cares about and is interested in each applicant. They really give the impression that they want students to come in not only knowing what it is like to be a student at UMD but also what it is like to be a medical school student period. They stressed multiple times that the day was as much about the school evaluating you as it was about you getting a feel for whether the school would be a good fit for yourself; it's a two way street. The students we got to meet were very nice and honestly seemed happy and balanced.
I had two faculty interviews. The first was an amazing experience as the professor and I really clicked. I believe we were matched because he was in my field of research. Both interviews were very conversational. It was very obvious that both had read my entire application in detail, which I appreciated. I got the normal questions as well as ones specific to my app. I'd say it was overall low stress but that is because I went in prepared for the worst (for me-a drilling interviewer) but hoping for the best 🙂.
Hope this helps and good luck!!
No problem and I know right! I'm so glad I will have her during medical school to keep me sane. Thanks so much! That was very informative.
P.S. I like your avatar! I have a black lab as well. They're the best!
