Is anyone else in the same situation as me? I transmitted 7/21 and still haven't received an e-mail from admissions saying they received my application, or that my application is under review. I called 2 weeks ago and they said to call back in two weeks, so I guess I'm calling them tomorrow. They said it takes 2-3 weeks for those emails to go out, but it's already been 5. I feel like it's putting me at a disadvantage and I'm starting to worry.
I transmitted 7/23 and havent heard anything either.... in-state and LizzyM 75

I transmitted 7/22 and did not even receive an under review e-mail.

I called the admissions office and they said they're barely reviewing applications received in the beginning of July. The lady said to keep an eye out for an email and that it's still "very early" in the interview season. Have no fear! 🙂

Hey all! I'm a current MS2 here at UTH. I know I am late to the game, but I am more than happy to answer any and all questions because I really do love my school! We are so excited to meet all of you!

II last week, LizzyM 70. Thought I should add my data point.

@alltheworldsastage - what, in your opinion, makes UTH unique?

I believe that of all the med schools in Texas, UTH offers the best overall atmosphere to learn. The faculty are amazing and everyone is super interested in seeing all of the students succeed. For example, the class above me told the faculty that attending a particular mandatory lab wasn't a great use of their time and it wasn't helping them learn. So for my class, they made the lab optional. And they do stuff like that across the board. Also, the student community here is amazing. I personally think that the UTH students are some of the most personable people I have ever met. There is always something going on if you need a study break. Additionally, everyone is super collaborative. Any and all resources are freely shared and everyone is willing to take a moment to explain a concept that you may be struggling with. Not to mention, we are also in the middle of the largest medical center in the world, so our clinical education is superb. I could go on and on about how amazing I think my school is. You're gonna get a great education no matter where you go. For me, the decision came down to where I thought I would be happiest at the end of four years of medical school and I would 100% go back and choose UTH all over again.

I haven't seen many posts about this regarding the Texas schools, but is UT Houston receptive to ITA emails? I'll be in town for my UTMB interview, and it would help to have this one (if offered) then, too, what with trying to not go bankrupt and all.

Here are the dates for interviews this year. Good luck, everyone! Lemme know if you have any questions about UTH or the process in general... I'm an MS1 here!

Nevermind, just saw this post. The interview day I'd be "asking" for would be the same day as my other one.

The office of admissions told me over the phone that they're barely processing apps transmitted in early July. I transmitted 7/21 and still haven't received an under review e-mail. Don't even know what to believe anymore. 🙁

That's odd. I got the under review email. There was another poster on here whose app was transmitted this month, got under review, and got an II within 3 weeks. Hopefully, you'll hear back soon.

No offense but UT Houston just seems disorganized from the experience of myself and others. Thank god a current student posted interview dates for this year because the interview dates on their website were from 2011-12. Anyways I digress and hope we all hear something from them soon.

I just had my interviews here. The tour, the students, and the admissions-related faculty were really awesome. I enjoyed everything UT Houston had to offer besides its interviewers.

My interviewers were both volunteers, however they seemed unreceptive to having conversation. I tried every pathway I could to start a conversation, something mutual we shared, or something along those lines. They had not looked at my file before my interview, yet they left it up to me to maintain the flow of the conversation. Once I stopped talking, the interviewers would just stare at me... until I asked another question. When I ran out of questions, they just showed me the door.

I feel let down because I was expecting an amazing time. Everyone kept saying the interviews would be great and conversational. I wonder how impactful the interviewers' evaluation of me is in my file. I really enjoyed the school.. just had tough luck with the interviewers.

This might only be my observation, but it seems that many schools (especially UT Houston) are giving out many II's to students with older MCAT scores. I'm saying that because almost every prospective student who's notified the boards of an II is giving out a LizzyM score, which new MCAT takers really can't give out. I'm just wondering if they are processing apps with older scores before the newer ones because there isn't as much data behind the new test. Anyone else notice this or am I just paranoid? Haha

Paranoid.

People just convert their 2015 MCAT to a rough 45-scale equivalent (using percentiles) to state a LizzyM score.

Mm that's one way to do it. I guess I was also thinking that because a friend of mine is an MS4 and was saying that admissions might be trying to look at some older scores earlier in the cycle. But hey, who knows what really goes on in those admissions offices. Just gotta keep chillin out I guess.

Texas has earlier application cycle. So many would have taken older MCAT in order to apply in May. You have to remember that UT Houston will allocate 90% or more seats to residents.

True story. And good point

As a TX resident, I am hoping for some love from any school in Texas especially UT Houston. I got a lot of love outside of TX from MD schools. Got 4 interviews all from out of state, but none from my home state. Are Texas schools really number oriented in their applications? LizzyM 57. I applied to 33 med schools and knew that I am throwing a Hail Mary, but I do have a very strong well-rounded application. I am shocked so far.

Do you mind sharing what schools you have interviews at so far? CONGRATS BY THE WAY 🙂 4 is better than none :/

Yeah what kinds of stats is UT Houston looking for anyways? I looked at their MSAR data, but I kinda want to know what are the stats of the people they are sending out interviews to.
I'm a Houston resident, working in the medical center. Been waiting for an II from this school.

TMDSAS Processed 7/28
3.76 GPA overall/3.74 sci GPA
511 MCAT

Good idea.. Not everyone includes their stats. But if they do most only put a Lizzy M score. I was trying to see if UTH is prioritizing higher GPAs or MCATs.

I got an II here with a higher GPA than MCAT. 3.93 general GPA, but 4.00 sGPA, and 32 mcat. I was honestly surprised too; I had definitely considered this a "reach" school

Congrats on the II

I wouldn't consider it a reach school for someone with your stats to be honest. Those are solid numbers. I have some friends there who got in with lower GPAs than that. I can't really tell though with the new MCAT and all. All this talk about not being able to compare apples and oranges between old and new MCAT, yet everyone is doing it with percentiles anyway hah

Houston native here as well!!!!!!! UTH is my dream school and I really hope I receive an II here 🙂

Your stats are right smack in the middle of their avg med school stats. Why would you consider this a reach school lol?

Someone in a thread from a previous year received an II with a 3.4c/2.9s, 25 MCAT (I assume upward trend?). The person retook the MCAT, got a 31, and was waitlisted the next year. So if your stats are low and you kill the other parts of your application, you might have a good chance.

I attended an interview here a couple weeks ago. I have a 29 MCAT, and that was my 2nd retake. The median score here is like a 31, but my interviewer mentioned to me that as long as your MCAT is in range with their 10th percentile it shouldn't be a problem considering everything else on your application is up to par.

Are you URM? What is your MCAT, cGPA and sGPA?

Absolutely. Here's a snapshot. Can't reveal too much of myself. 😉
Note: My LizzyM score included the new cGPA that is below. I didn't mention that before.

URM
Bilingual in Spanish & English
MCAT: 22
cGPA: 3.30 overall, BUT cGPA (excluding first 3 semesters): 3.5
sGPA: 2.86 overall, BUT sGPA (excluding first 3 semesters): 3.4
Have 3 extremely strong LORs + pre-med committee letter.
Have very strong personal statement that I did 17 rough drafts on (not kidding).
From a competitive TX public university (Hint: Whoop!)
Interesting range and dedication of extra-curriculars
Lots of volunteer and health experience.
Research

Those with lower stats shouldn't be discouraged from applying. I put so much work into my application and secondaries and had so many rough drafts of everything I did. I made sure to discuss my upward trend (I included my newly calculated cGPA and sGPA to make sure adcoms take notice of it), how I learned and grew from my early mistakes, and acknowledged my low MCAT score and what steps I need to do to improve upon standardized test taking (this is just being honest). It's a tough process, I had to constantly convince myself to not to give up on my med school apps. I wasn't going to let my MCAT score prevent me from applying. Best of luck to everyone applying!

I think you're right about the new mcat taking longer 🙁
Sometimes I feel like I really got screwed over with these changes but I think I am just paranoid. If it makes you feel better, I have a 508 and a 3.9 but I haven't heard much from this school (or San Antonio which I think was the other school that was people with newer mcat wasn't hearing back from?)

Yeah I mean I've heard from some people who are MS3s and 4's that are associated with the admissions process and they said its a possibility that the newer MCAT is taking longer to look at. I'm not sure if that's for every school. I've had some friends who have received II's before me although I submitted my application before them and we would have close to the same LizzyM scores, only difference is that they have the older MCAT scores.
I just keep telling myself it's a process and just to be patient haha.

I already asked this on the TMDSAS page but I didn't really get an answer - How does one go about sending an update to TMDSAS schools? Do you email the TMDSAS and they contact the schools or do you send an email to each school? Or is it frowned upon unless you have an interview?

I am talking about sending an update of a recent publication + a few little things

Do you mind me asking what schools you got interviewed at already? Since we have relatively similar stats it could be used as a comparison point. For me, I have gotten ones at el paso, lubbock, utmb, a&m, and tcom.

I've only interviewed at Lubbock so far. I hope to get more invites. Looks like you've already had a productive interview season thus far. Congrats!
When did TMDSAS send out your application? Mine was submitted on 7/2 and transmitted 7/28, so I know I am a little late or right at the peak when almost everyone submitted.

Edit: non-URM
